The point is, its not jsut warez and pr0n taking up huge swaths of space anymore, but rather millions average joe GAMES, legally purchased digital music and movies etc etc. Its really not hard to fill up a 500 GB drive with totally legal everyday stuff that NORMAL people buy.
I fucking hate people like you who let their hatred blind them. No matter how you feel about the company, they make WORLD CLASS systems. To totally disparage the technical merits of what they do because of how they market is childish. If Apple made products that didnt work very well, we wouldnt really talk about them on slashdot.
My Steam folder has 100 GB of games in it just from this year alone. WoW is up to 30 GB. The SWTOR BETA was 20 GB. But yeah normal users dont need space.....
I'm sorry, but OCZ needs another decade of good quality products under their belt before they can ever be considered. They have a terrible track record of not following standard practices, shoddy workmanship and abysmal customer service.
We in I.T. have procedures and steps for unlocking doors. Just saying "DO IT NOW, I'm a $10 million a year salesman" is not going to get you very far. We are the final say on the network because we are legally liable (jail time, fines, restitution) for it. I fucking dare you to go into Legal and challenge their authority like people do to IT.
For most I.T departments, we are god for the purposes of evaluating and maintaining network integrity. It has nothing to do with ego, but with necessity as our role as gatekeeper. You dont go into Legal demanding clearly illegal things and then getting all huffy when they say no and point out they are god in that particular sphere of influence. We should be granted that same level of respect. I really find it cute when non I.T people tell us its not OUR network. Its our fucking network because at the end of the day we are LEGALLY LIABLE for it.
Dont you think we try that? But at the end of the day when a no stays a no for real, valid security concerns, you are STILL going to get butt-hurt about it. I.T. is very much a 'respect my authoritay' type of job. If you want to interact with the very fabric of what keeps the company secure, you better be prepared to walk away when we say no for cause. By the very nature of our job, we are the gatekeepers, it is our network and you will comply and operate within the framework which has been set out by our superiors. The minute we let fucking developers or god forbid sales decide what is best for the network is the minute we lose the network.
For me, GFWL isnt the hairy monster some make it out to be. I set up a local account once long ago and it worked seamlessly when i installed Arkham City with my local account popping up immediately. I certainly dont love it, but i have resigned myself that this is the reality of the modern gamer. Its gotten to the point where im not even using my gaming rig for anything but gaming simply because the software stack is so fucking fragile now. I'll tell you one thing, hatred for GFWL is no reason to deny yourself Arkham City. Its amazing and GORGEOUS on PC.
As long as the business side of content creation continues to load their side of the social bargain, neither side can claim the moral high ground. Piracy is not right, but neither is life of the author+70 years, RETROACTIVELY to save a mouse from entering the public domain. I would also like to remind you that copyright infringement is not stealing from most logical perspectives. Its a COMPLETELY distinct and separate crime from stealing from pretty much any legal standpoint.
You can make local accounts easily, no email req'd. Im not a huge fan of GFWL, but it does its job adequately . I had to make a local client because if i logged into my LIVE account, it would kick my wife of the Xbox Netflix.
1. Place wine glass on flat surface
2. Fill wine glass 1/3 full.
3. While making sure the bottom of the glass never leaves the surface, swirl the glass.
4. ????????
5. Profit (get drunk)
It was Casey's Cupcakes in Laguna. We were taking the local bus down to the in-laws in Dana Point from Lake Forest and had a 'layover' in Laguna so we got a cupcake snack and ate them while listening to the Laguna bus stop bums commiserate.
We take the bus down about twice a year just for funsies. Its a nice ride through the canyon and then 10 miles of oceanfront plus the always entertaining layover in downtown Laguna.
Its this new metropolitan area fad of upscale cupcake stores. Ive had a few 'gourmet' cupcakes from one in Laguna Beach. It was ok, but not worth the $4 i paid for it and I'd never go back.
I tend to agree with this. I always laugh at people wasting time installing 'the club' on their steering wheel. It jsut screams "Im desperate and have no means to recover from losses."
"you just cant add it to the system media libraries"
You dont see this as a huge problem? Even if I write my own app, it will NEVER stand on the same footing as the video app. I cant make seamless experiences because Apple says users are too stupid to manage files.
Only on the surface. You still need itunes for media managment unless you go the whole cloud route. Its infuriating that I cant download video directly to my ipad as easily as i do from the apple store. Flat out you HAVE to have itunes unless you buy everything from the store.
I often will extend uncomfortable silences because quite frankly from experience, i bore people to death with my interests. Its far easier for me to sit in uncomfortable silence then engage in uncomfortable active conversation. IF you want to talk, ill be happy to listen, but dont expect to make up small talk just to talk.
And I would say you are naive. Expectation of privacy is dead everywhere. It died when Congress made the telcos exempt from prosecution. Expect everything you utter over infrastructure to be intercepted.
ACs arent allowed to call out UIDs, feeb

Perhaps you should read this before you disparage the high precision moving parts of a HDD http://geekscomputer.blogspot.com/2008/07/hard-disk-drive-analogy.html

That is some serious ego to say your book existed before the universe formed.

The conversion rate for grouponers is abysmal. They are locusts out swarming for the next deal.
I somewhat agree that the patent office should be in the business of declaring what is public domain just as much as what is protected.
We are a bit more then the sum of primordial soup and time.
