Until i got a bit wider tires on my Nissan Sentra other then the stock ones, I would sometimes spin the tires on take off because that paint is so slick
THe destructive power of a nuclear generated EMP is HIGHLY overrated and mostly inconsequential compared to the fact that you are initiating a nuclear chain reaction. Its a low grade side effect at best, no one would deploy a nuclear weapon with its sole intent of generating the EMP blast.
But when Family guy does it its ok right? The entire Family Guy show is a pop culture mash up. Now i enjoy it as much as the next guy, but he really steals A TON of material, in the name of parody.
Piracy is a natural reaction to the lobbyists. Ill give Mickey Mouse as an example. He was scheduled to leave copyright already under the terms of social contract of when he was created. Disney lobbied tremendously hard to get the Sonny Bono act passed and extended copyright FAR beyond its original intention. Mickey Mouse SHOULD be copyright free today, but hes not because the law was bought and paid for by big content. Its not right.
A little pedantic, but the mechanism you are describing is democracy, not a republic. In a republic, the law is generally immune from the sways to the crowd, regardless of how unpopular it is.(i.e. Civil rights laws)
In general, when people sell used games ( and im not talking about Gamestop, buy used from Amazon etc.) they use that money to turn around and usually buy a new game. The early adopter is subsidizing his need to have it now buy selling the item later for a reduced price. If he didnt sell the game later, he would have less purchasing power to buy the newest games.
This is a valid economy and needs to be protected. The bare truth is that second hand games DO PUT MONEY IN PUBLISHERS POCKETS.

IM sorry but Sony has years of contrition ahead of it before i can view this statement as anything but lip-service. I really dont think they have ANY idea how badly they destroyed the walkman name. A Walkman that played straight MP3s from day one of the MP3 revolution would have set the standard and Sony would have probably dominated. Apple has much to thank Sony for.
Exactly. The jukebox in the sky is HERE, I have no real reason to store DVDs and non personal movies anymore, especially considering the time, effort and money involved. Netflix, hulu, youtube, OTA HDTV, PS3/360 Video stores, Apple TV the list goes on and on. If cable wasnt so good at keeping my wife out of my hair it would be gone too.
Fax is NOT obsolete, it still has a place at the telecom table. They are cheap, reliable and they just work. Im not saying there arent better methods, but a fax is still a VERY useful tool.
Regarding your comment about the podcast. That is functionality beyond what i need personally, and also it comes with a steep price of vendor lock in. Im glad that it works for you, but it comes at the cost of having your 'workflow' decided for you by Apple. Ive found Itunes and even Iphoto very hard to work with, partially because most of the time you have to go all in and let the program do everything for you, without much granular control. Itunes likes to take over everything and insists that you do things according to its standards. I realize for some that makes things simpler, but for a technical person with lots of stuff on the local network, its a headache. Im always afraid Itunes is going to go too far and do something I didnt want it to do.
On a final note, and this extends to ALOT of the apple product line. You are expected to do things the apple way in almost EVERYTHING they make.
THey most certainly are not the 'best' on many levels. THe ONLY real advantage Apple had this late inthe game was the Itunes DRM. Now thats gone, ther eis no reason not to pick up a MUCH more user friendly pplayer. Ipods only allow you to do things in VERY presrcibed ways and its utter bullshit. Ill list a few
Cant use it cross platform, if you want to transfer songs from a PC and your ipod is mac formatted you are fucked, which is jsut plain retarded.
Cant just drag and drop files on it like almost any other good MP3 player. The battery is non removable and expensive to have the OEM replace it. ( i know there are after market kits but they take a level of technical knowledge)
Its expensive. It costs quite a bit more then most of the players out there and does less for MY usage.
Ipod is a decent product and it has its place, but it most certainly not the 'best' from both a technical and universal access point of view.
Fingerprints contain very minimal medical data about you. DNA is a CODE, its a huge repository of the information that makes you what you are physicaly. The two things are not analogous AT ALL.
DNA holds several orders of magnitude more personal information then a fingerprint. The 2 things arent even comparable. A fingerprint is a physical imprint of the pattern on your fingertip, DNA tells every single genetic medical fact about you.
Decision to fire a weapon, or to be more precise the ORDER to go 'weapons hot' will remain the same as it is today, from the chain of command. It will not be making 'decisions' to fire, but rather acting on orders, just like we have today with human pilots. While yes it may run variables to determine best target, time to fire etc, the 'decision' to allow weapon fire will always come from above. I understand what you are getting at but I felt the impression you were giving was too skynet-esque for my taste.
With an error so large in such a critical application, you cant be sure that 2% is the correct number. A flaw this large calls the entire result in question, as it rightfully should.
Your cellular provider distinguishes between unlimited mobile device internet and laptop grade internet ( bad term but you get my meaning). A cell phone will have a much harder time 'wasting' bandwidth versus a full on PC with a full OS. Its a dubious distinction that will absolutely need to be adressed as the lines between a full-on computer and a mobile device continue to blur.

Actually some PsP groups already have custom software running on even the most modern PSPs

You missed his point.

I have the Thermaltake BlackX version of that, works great.
Ive got a 2002 Nissan Sentra with roll down windows, stick shift and a cassette player!
Quick time events suck. I doubt I will be picking up God of War III because their over-use of it.

I forget the depths in which i swim sometimes on slashdot. You are both correct and pedantic, and thats ok with me.
WE may see a private enterprise moon landing before NASA can be bothered to go back.
I wouldnt label the guardians of the ultimate backup communications system as luddites...

This has been answered MANY times, Ghandi's approach only works when the oppressor in question is capable of shame.
The main problem we have with it is the industry should be providing MORE service for less money, not the opposite.
