Remember Soviet citizens, you must stand in line for this scrap of mouldy bread which our Gracious Leader has got for you! Anyone who is caught using the "black market" in food is an Enemy of the People, and will undergo "correction".
Buying food through private channels undermines our wonderful Soviet institution of agriculture. All faults (not that there are faults) are due to insufficient resources in the Department of Bounty.
Can we please have an election sometime soon and throw Jacqui Smith out of the Home Office? I'm sure she can get a job working for the Chinese or North Korean governments.
I thought everyone knew this already.
But I am enjoying the Windows 7 beta on my gaming desktop and netbook and look forward to *gasp* purchasing a copy to replace Windows XP.
For goodness' sake, you must be joking! I've pre-ordered the game but now I'm considering leaving it on the shelf and playing a pirated version. Sounds way easier!
I'm glad that the House hasn't approved a (unconstitutional) post-facto law with immunity to law-breakers. However, there was never any need to increase the power of wire-tapping beyond the current. So actually I wish the bill hadn't been passed in any form.
I'm very pleased to hear this. I'm sure the Democratic congressmen know this will play well in the next election, however: wait and see if they're honest about civil liberties in two to four years time, if they get the White House too and can set the legislative agenda.
Separation of powers is a good thing; the more conflict between the White House and Capitol Hill, the less the rights and incomes of the American citizenry will be eroded.
Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress granted the power to declare bullying a Federal Crime. This ill-conceived measure is unenforceable and unconstitutional.
Why is Senator Wilson more concerned with internet harassment than the collapsing US economy or, you know, important issues?
The President does not have the power to wage war. Presidents have usurped this power from Congress since 1945.
Information wants to be free? Yes it does. But what does that matter when We The People aren't free from arbitrary exercise of power by our own government?
The USA has become the Evil Empire it fought in 1776. Worse, perhaps.
I agree, but if the two major parties nominate Clinton and McCain, what hope is there of this worrying trend being reversed? This is why I voted for Ron Paul.
Mr. Fils-Amie said that future DS device will be more tightly integrated with its Wii console. Complete games as well as game samplers will be able to be downloaded into the Wii using its broadband connection, and then transferred wirelessly to the DS.
Sounds cool, considering current integration of the two devices is about zero, and they both have wireless capabilities. Actually, what I'd really really love to see is the ability to play and store Virtual Console titles on my DS.
The Amazon MP3 Downloader installs and (seems to) run fine on Linux with wine. However, since I can't provide a USA billing address, I haven't been able to purchase an album and see if it downloads.
Still, cool:) . I expect they'll bring this to Amazon worldwide soon.
Microsoft already has the benefits of their product being free for home/casual users. It's called "piracy".
Besides which, Open Office is in no way a real threat to MSOffice's success and market dominance. Like Microsoft is supposed to throw away their monopoly because someone else has made a word processor for free? Right.
My personal response to those claims:
1. I'm sure their serving and bandwidth costs are pretty big. Anyone can host adverts on a popular site and make money.
3. This is irrelevant to online file sharing. Also, the unprovable claim that 'generic evildoers' may do something does not make it evil too.
5. No, I don't buy that. Record labels are out to make money on 'bankers', not trying to lose it on 'underground' artists.
10. When art is given away freely, good content tends to shine.
I don't consider the others worth addressing, tbh.
Owners of first-generation Intel Macs that used (32-bit only) Core Duo CPUs may not be so happy knowing that Vista will be the last Windows they will be able to run. I personally doubt most Mac owners will care too much about running the competition's OS.
I have had more than a handful of students say they have lost several years of digital photos of their grandchildren because a friend formatted their computer and reinstalled Windows. When quizzed about the actual problem it's nearly always a very simple one. In one case it was the keyboard not putting the correct characters on screen (I am in the UK and the keyboard was set to a US layout). That's absolutely terrible:( . A little learning is a terrible thing.

The parent comment does not deserve mod points. Individuals have been accused, are under investigation and innocent until proven otherwise.
No, that's incorrect. It does, in fact, check online if there have been ten or more days since the last time your copy was verified, ad infinitum.

FEC.gov shows he donated the maximum allowance to Barack Obama's campaign. Just FYI :) .
Apparently not, he's staying in the race. http://people.ronpaul2008.com/campaign-updates/2008/02/09/this-candidate-doesnt-quit/

1. Baseless speculation /. and discuss the XBOX's fan noise.
2. Speculation denied

You're far too quick to predict the demise of one of the biggest, richest and toughest corporate organisations in America. It's very naive.

Is this any different from http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/02/13/13 44248yesterday's story or has Google been involved in multiple court cases in Belgium?
Go kid! Let's hope the judge sides with him on this one.
