Still, don't lump all "American Christians" into the same bucket, either. Some of us do have a bit of sense.

I didn't read the other replies, so I don't know if anyone's addressed these issues already.

Personally, I really like my 360. I've never had a failure and I've owned mine for over a year now. Plus, mine came with a 3-year warranty. I don't think it's all that noisy, but then again, I have my noisy-as-hell laptop sitting next to it.
The scratched disks are an issue, however. It seems that the DVD drives they used in the 360s were never meant to be stood on their sides... so if you leave your 360 standing up and so much as bump it, you're probably going to get a hell of a scratch in your disk. I almost ruined Gears of War this way. However, if you lay the 360 on its side, that should take care of the problem. I haven't had a disk scratched since.

    Just my 2 cents.

After doing a 30-second search for "Anascape", the only thing I could find on them are the law suits. Though, to be fair, most every gaming news site is covering this one. Still, who are these people? Have they done anything besides file the patents and then smack down anyone that uses "their technology"? Side note: Something the summary doesn't mention. Anascape originally sued Sony over the Playstation controllers. Then, they went after Microsoft and Nintendo at the same time. They don't seem to have any problems with the wiimote yet. Just the classic controller and the Gamecube controller.

My thoughts exactly. If I had mod points, you'd be getting +1 insightful. Customs probably dig a bit deeper than my local airport security, but when I went flying, they didn't give my digital camera a second thought. they also didn't seem to notice that I had a spare SD card in my wallet, though that may be because I had some loose change and a spare key in there, too.

Would the X-ray machine be able to see the card then, or would it just look like a big pile of metal thingies?

Why not try renting the Speed Racer DVDs and watching an episode or two? It'll only set you back $3 and an hour of your time.

  17. My two cents on What Skills Should Undergrads Have? · · Score: 1

As many have said before me, nothing beats real-world experience. Everyone will want a different language, and you can't learn them all by heart. Know a few of the big name languages really well and have a good grasp on where to go when you want to learn another language. Plus, try out a few languages that are vastly different from each other. Knowing Java can help you get a grasp of C/C++ early on, but would help you nil with something like LISP, ProLog, PostScript or assembly.

Personally, my first language was C++. Every language I've learned since then, I've asked myself "Okay, how is this like C++ and how is it different?" After graduating, I've had to use C++, Java (heavily), Python, and some strange variation of VB6.

Off-topic: Personally, I don't see how Java is "damaging" to students. True, you don't need a GUI on every program, but I wish I'd had a decent class on how to make a GUI in Java when I was an undergrad. Though, I can't argue the issue of code overhead and hitting the system harder than necessary.

Whoa, I think you're more paranoid than I am (and that's saying a lot).

Then again, I didn't exactly give details on the other guy's situation. His first and only offense was 7 years ago. Statatory rape of a 16 year old (I'm thinking it's a "I swear she said she was 18" thing). He's since gotten married and has kids. But, that one offense was enough for him to get labeled (which is apparently enough for someone to hunt you down). I think keeping a few spare print-outs of his stats from the database would suffice.

Considering the only people that visit me are my family and the pizza guy, I know when to point people the other way.

Yes, even though the database of sex offenders has his address as A7 and has pictures (he looks nothing like me), the police insisted that I was a sex offender until I provided an ID to show we had different birthdates.

So now I have to worry about whackos trying to kill the other guy and getting me instead? Great.

  20. My Wii experience on Wiimote Straps Result in Class Action Suit · · Score: 1

I'm a big guy. Not exactly a star athelete, but I can throw pretty hard when I want to (or need to). I also have big, sweaty hands, particularly when holding a controller for any length of time.

I play without a wrist strap. I've never had a problem. And, yes, I get into it.

As a bit of a personal test (after horrible images of my wiimote snapping from its strap, becomming entient, flying around my room and breaking my TV passed through my head) I put the strap on and let the wiimote hang from my wrist. Looked fine. I bounced it up and down a bit. Still fine. Considering the wiimote wouldn't get more than a couple inches from my hand if I screwed up, this was good enough for me.

BUT! The strap is pretty thin. But, this also begs the question, why didn't people make better straps for themselves upon seeing how thin the straps were and hearing all the horror stories? A length of yarn would have worked, for crying out loud.

Plus, Nintendo's replacing all the wrist straps! (I'm keeping mine, thank you very much) They're pretty much saying "We realize you're getting a bit more into it than we thought you would. And we don't want anyone to get hurt, so we're replacing your straps at no charge." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they're doing it for free.

This greatly reminds me Weird Al's "I'll Sue Ya"...
If only there was a "Don't be a dumbass" law...
