    The one difference would be this;

Two months after that recall Ford issues a recall for steering wheels, that they can crack and make it hard to control the car. Three months later they issue a recall for their electric adjusted seats which when hit by a certain radio signal fold forward on the occupants of the car. Then only one month after that they issue another for the radio again, this time if playing any old CD the radio may emit a really loud tone until disconnected. Then five months after that they issue a recall for their A/C in which the improper placement in relation to the engine of a connecting hose that can cause it to start burning emitting a nasty smoke unless the A/C is turned off. Two months later a recall is done for door locks that when jarred (such as slapping the door or slamming it) may unlock it coupled with Fords new Easy Go(tm) keyless one button start feature.

It's not just one recall, it is a long history of problems one after another. Some from their own stupidity, some from the stupidity of others.

The only thing that could save Microsoft would be a total rewrite of windows to go back to the 3.1 daze of a GUI and an OS as you mention. Unix does it, Linux does it, and Apple now does it (yuck, defending Apple, *vomits and then ducks*).

I doubt we will see a rewrite any time soon however, for one thing it would be a shit load of work, take a long time, probably be as filled with bugs and holes as the current generation of Microsoft products for at least the first year or more, and probably break all current software, might as well save it for the 64bit processors.

Sorry for the lack of grammar *ducks again*, cheers!

I only wanted to reply to one part:

She took the book, smiled shyly but looked a bit worried. Then she said something that still makes my blood boil: "But my teacher says that we are not supposed to learn anything by ourselves because we might learn wrong things".

One of my teachers in 3rd or 4th grade said something very similar to me concerning math. I had figured out how to do the math easier for myself in my head and more quickly then her way writing the problem down on paper. She told me that it was improper to do math like that, it didn't matter if it worked or not, I had to do the math like in the book, period. Also that I couldn't just make up ways to do math, there was a right way and that was what was being taught.

I had a great deal of difficulty with math from then on, I was partly afraid to actually think about the math in fear I was using the wrong math. Also I couldn't seem to get my brain to wrap around the way of doing math she was trying to teach me. I eventually learned her math, I have since forgot it and have dropped to a muddled memory of the way I liked to do it.

The teacher was little help, often stating that her teachers book didn't explain certain problems that I had trouble with and therefore she could not help me, she told me to guess a number in those cases.

I actually don't remember many times where adding our own touch or figuring things out on our own was allowed or encouraged, it was usually their way or a grade drop.

All but three of my teachers were like that.

Another thing, do you know how many states are part of the United States of America? 52? I bet you didn't know it was 52, there are 50 continental states, Alaska is 51, and Hawaii is 52. No, really, my History/Geography teacher taught me that. Some stupid students tried to correct her but she didn't give in, she sited from her teachers book. I glad she set me right on that common error.

But anyway, I gotta go get something to eat and head off to bed, be well!

    Best regards,

  11. SMS Spam on SMS SPAM to be Banned Down Under? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I am thankful that I have never given out my SMS address to anyone. In over a year I haven't gotten a single spam on it. What I want to know is, when will we get over this whole spam friendly system?

I think if we had a system where you could issue ID numbers, long hex numbers, to potential callers and spammers then auto filter out anything without the proper ID number we would be a lot better off. Think about a fancy party, you only send out invites to those you want to show up, and when they get there they have to show the invite or get kicked out.

With proper setup, it should become just as common as phone numbers on applications and in forms. Just enter your email or other address, then enter your auth ID for that contact. If they break it the rules, delete the auth ID and their junk is stopped at the ISP or [cell] phone co.

Just my 2 cents but you'd think in this day in age we wouldn't all be on our knees begging for mercy instead of standing up and figuring a way out of this mess.

Maybe each with a skill that can only be applied to certain puzzles. Other puzzles (as already mentioned several times) could require working together. Imagine having to hold a button down while someone else cranks a generator.

I couldn't see this played in the same area as the other games. Also the engine that was used for the three Mysts wouldn't work here. They are based on prescripted movies and images. For this to work it would be required to use a 3D engine like Quake, etc. Which will loose a lot of graphics quality on lesser graphics cards. The game could also be set as a D&D style game, like NeverWinter Nights.

It could work, I would put more money on it working then on people being willing to pay for it working.

This reminds me of a website I was designing a few years back. I required root access to configure the databases and apache. I almost had a cow, correct that, I did have a cow, when I was given the password. "Hostname".

The only thing stopping a barrage of hackers was:
    user: root
    pass: hostname

And that was the actual hostname of the site, not 'hostname'. I changed it to a random set of digits and sent a notice to everyone working on the site. 7 hours later the owner emails me:

No, you must change password back. I never remember this. Change back to hostname now or you fired.

After arguing with her for 2 days on the risk (she was going to store credit card numbers) I quit. I wanted nothing to do with managing hackers. Due to a good M$ like contract I still got paid but that's another story.

Luckily the site hit a brick wall and never had any customers let alone any CC#'s. Ugh, some people.

BTW if wondering it was going to be a porn site portal, collecting the credit card info, billing them, and redirecting them to the hosted porn sites.

I just really worry about what website she is going to try next.
