    Nope, they've been redundant for years - who can use a 320x240 2003-esque 'touch-pad' embedded in a headrest over their modern smartphone ?

  14. I recall years ago, there was speculation that non PDA-using man's newly-formed friendship with the canine species led to 'tracking prey via smell' as a task being offloaded to the dogs - leaving spare capacity for the brain to develop into PDA-using man.

    As far as getting from A to B - the drivers are as involved as they need to be.

      * Drives up gun crime and therefore increases profit for the Prison industry?
      * Increased profit for the gun industry?
      * Increased marketing profit for the movie industry - product placement ftw?
      * Make your population partially self-culling - low-cost population control ftw ?
      * Chimes well with the fiction that you are free and brave ?
