So I'm confused... Is it "extremely difficult to do much of anything without access to the internet" or is it something "you don't NEED"? You can't eat your cake and have it too. The internet isn't required for daily life, it's not even a 'really almost have to have'. It's a convenient tool that helps when we're feeling lazy and prefer to waddle over to the computer, instead of doing any real leg work. (And before someone things I'm being trollish using 'lazy' and 'waddle', I said WE, thereby including me in those statements)
Other than as a distraction at work - none of which is done online - I don't use the internet much. Need to talk to someone, phone call, text, or letter (rather rare, I'll admit). News, newspaper and tv. TV schedule, TV Guide and channel surfing. Directions, atlas for major roads, call and ask otherwise. Pay bills, mail a check.
You don't NEED the internet for anything. It's convenient, it's useful, but it's *hardly* "extremely difficult to do much of anything without access to the internet". Very LITTLE requires you to have access to the internet - yet.
Spoken by someone talking out of their ass and generally without a clue. Have you met me? Do you know anything about my life? No, of course not. You'd have no idea if I spent over a year almost completely 'unplugged' while in the Peace Corps, but okay...
"That's a blatant infringement on one's human rights, which states that everyone is entitled to a fair trial." -- You sure about that? A 'fair' trial isn't a basic human right, it isn't necessary for life, it's a great concept that's put into practice. I think you're projecting the idealistic notions from "Western Civilization" (the USA and Europe) onto what you *think* should be a global truth.
Not even close to a 'right', how do you figure it is? Even with government having a stronger presence online, there are still offices people can walk into, real people to interact with - it's just not as instant as online and someone, *gasp*, may have to wait in line. Seriously, having access to the internet is not a right in any way, shape, or form. As much as we nerds/geeks may like to think otherwise, you don't die if you can't access the world wide web.
I did not, I am just relaying what I was told. The prof might have, however. As I said, I have no evidence to support the claim, so I'm more than willing to concede something got garbled in transmission.
Good luck seeing any movies in the next...ever.
I'm not even trying to be cynical. It's a simple fact that everything is a rehash of something else. A good portion of the original Star Trek episodes were takes of various Shakespeare plays. The original Battlestar Galactica was mostly re-tellings of various movie plot lines. I took a lit class in college years ago and the prof said something that's stuck with me since - there are only 7 original plot lines to a narrative/story, everything else just changes setting and mixes up the characters a bit. Now, take that with a grain of salt, as I have no links to support that claim.
I agree with you completely. I personally don't buy from Gamestop (unless the game is new and sealed). I'm all for saving a few bucks if the game is older or hard to find, in which case I'll go to Ebay or Craigslist, but I'd rather 'vote with my dollar' and see more quality games produced.
Honestly, the argument against being able to buy used games is not one I understand. It's no different than buying a used car and as soon as someone suggested there be sanctions against reselling cars, there would be a public outcry. In both instances you can buy the brand new item for full retail price - or wait a while and get it in slightly worse condition and maybe not with all the extras that originally came with the item. In both cases the reseller (we'll say Gamestop and your local car dealership) make a profit over what they bought the used item for. In both cases the customer is paying more than they otherwise would if they bought it directly from the person selling it to the reseller. And in both cases you're dealing with shady, underhanded people.
It's not even remotely surprising that people decided to start with the Palin jokes. It's just sad and pathetic that the overwhelming majority of you that made the 'jokes' weren't funny in the slightest, made 'retard' comments, or placenta jokes. For 'nerds'/'geeks', a lot of you are just unoriginal and uninspired.
Got to go down there to see it twice - once while it was on. Very cool to see the water molecules glow blue because they were so energetic that they moved faster than the speed of light in water.
I saw that Dateline special. As a matter of school pride I thought to myself 'no way they go in at Purdue'... 15 seconds later: 'oh..shiiiiiiit! that's bullshit!' Then again, they let me in...twice...so obviously there's no accounting for taste, let alone security! Although, both times I saw the reactor were before September 11th.
I already have. Where I live in Michigan there are two (up and running) nuclear reactors within 30 miles of me. Those two plants supply most of the power to southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. I went to college at Purdue, one of many college campuses that have operational reactors on site (granted it's a small one) and that didn't bother me one bit - even though it was housed in the basement of the building I spent most of my time in. I'm all for it.
That said, I too agree that we need to find viable renewable energy resources. Some combination of wind, solar, and geothermal is my current favorite. Barring those, aren't there enough Scientologists we can put on the pyre? (yes that was a troll/gaff, no I don't apologize:-p )
It seems you're working with out-of-date information. I just ran a few tests myself and browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped isn't ignored.
As a test of that, I visited 'www.gamepolitics.com', 'www.gamespot.com', and 'www.addictinggames.com' via typing the url into the bar. Opening a new tab, I typed "game" into the bar - all three websites were displayed. I then set browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped to 'True' and restarted Firefox. Typing 'game' then only listed the two urls that started with 'game' - i.e. 'www.addictinggames.com' was not listed as a suggestion.
Don't get too cocky. Not too long ago the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar. Currently, it's only behind the USD by $0.017 - i.e. damn near equal.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn later that Mozilla restricted the download of FF3 to this effort and will only put it live in the usual places after tomorrow.
I can't imagine why someone would actually mod this hate speech up. I don't really care if I'm 'missing the point' and the parent is trying to be 'ironic', what he's saying is just stupid.
First of all, yes the general structure of the organization (at the troop level) has a resemblance to a military organization. Is this some how shocking considering it was founded by a British Lieutenant General. Imagine that, a guy going with what he knows. "origins with similar fascist programs in Europe prior to WWII" - name one. Funny enough, the scouting movement started not because Baden-Powell said 'hey lets form troops and do stuff', it was boys and girls gathering of their own volition and, per wiki, 'spontaneously formed Scout troops' and used the reference guides BP wrote earlier in the century.
So, by your argument, every single man that wants to become a teacher below the collegiate level is somehow 'weird and fishy'? You obviously don't have the first damn clue as to why someone would become a Scout leader. Most volunteer because their sons are involved in scouts and it's a good way to connect and spend quality time with them. Others because, Heaven and Hell forbid, they want to pass on their knowledge of various skills. Thanks to many such leaders, by the time I was 15 I was a modest backpacker and survivalist. Not an expert, but a damn sight better than your average person. I can still start a fire without matches (3 different ways, using only what's found in the woods), track animals, navigate by the stars alone, and do the proverbial 'living off the land'. But of course, by your reasoning, everyone that taught me anything was some creepy old man trying to jingle my change purse. In short, shut the hell up about what you know precisely jackshit about.
Does the BSA discriminate against homosexuals and atheists/agnostics? Yes, unfortunately they do and it's with a deep sense of shame that I admit that. Boy Scouts gave me some of the greatest experiences in my life and it hurts to know that there are boys and young men that will never be able to participate so long as they are true to themselves. It's even worse when potential leaders, who are nothing but good role models, are barred because they too are being true to themselves. I can't help but think of the South Park episode. Big Gay Al seemed to be doing a GREAT job as Scoutmaster, but he was booted because he was, obviously, gay. That's the kind of nonsense that's hurting the BSA more than anything. Well, that an ignorant people like you.
Didn't they already do something that... Star Wars Galaxies started off OK, but was lacking. Then it had most everything but was a clusterfucked abomination. Not even Lucas Arts is stupid enough to risk another SW MMO yet.
Yes, let's put up a spoiler alert for a game that's 9 years old. Good call hoss. Your attempt at being ironic, at least I hope this is what you were going for, fails on many, many levels.

How is it that assholes like this aren't IP Banned?

Why can't they be both and charge double the price? That's the trend these days, right? Make a shitty product and overcharge...

Awww... Multiple someones got all offended. Went from a +4 Insightful to a 0 Off-topic. Funny how the only 'valid' opinion is the liberal bias.

Oh come on... the ./ mods never reverse things. ;-)

What have you read and where did you read it?

Hush, the troll ran out of fingers and toes.
There, there little troll. Please continue your nonsensical rant.
