  1. Re:The real religious explanation on Ape-Human Split Moved Back By Millions Of Years · · Score: 1

I wish I hadn't already commented on this story, because you deserve mod points for writing the funniest thing I've read all year.

  2. Headline scared me. on Ape-Human Split Moved Back By Millions Of Years · · Score: 1

I read the headline the way someone might read "Human progress on X moved back by Y number of years". For a minute I feared that either monkeys had evolved or humans had devolved by several million years, with the latter seeming more likely.

  3. Re:Not that hard of a problem to solve on Attack of the Evil Monkeys From Hell · · Score: 1

  7. I think we've reached a verdict on RIAA Backtracks After Embarrassing P2P Defendant · · Score: 1

    Thanks for all the replys.

I will probably go the used CD route. I may actually begin building my collection now as some of the more obscure music I like can be found on eBay for $.99 plus $3.00 shipping for still factory sealed.

I've ruled out iTunes as I prefer to be able to use my music however I want. I currently use an iPod, but that doesn't mean I will forever.

Two things I should have pointed out earlier. Yes, I do go to concerts. I've always felt nothing can replace the experience of live music. Additionally, there is positively, absolutely no question that about 90% of the music I listen to is stuff I've found through downloading. I certainly would never have come across artists like Strike Anywhere or Mastodon by listening to the radio. Because I've downloaded their music, I've ended up spending money to attend their concerts. I think that's probably far more beneficial to them in the long run.

  8. Anyone else feeling less bad about pirating? on RIAA Backtracks After Embarrassing P2P Defendant · · Score: 5, Interesting

I've been pirating like a maniac for the past 8 years or so. I've got around 500 albums on my computer that I've never paid for. I used to feel bad about it in the past, but I'm having mixed feelings at the moment.

up until about 2 years ago, I always intended to legally purchase these cds someday (No, seriously) once I get out of college and into the real world. At ~$15 each it would come to $7500, which I suppose is a lot but spread over a few years, it wouldn't really kill me. The problem is I can't stand to contribute a single cent to the sleazy companies behind the RIAA. On the other hand, I am getting a bit tired of mp3 quality and I'd like to have actual cds to rip into a lossless format.

Any suggestions? Anyone else feeling the same way?

If I lived in Canada and purchased an iPod that included a fee that went straight to the record companies, I'd naturally assume this gave me immunity and just pirate to my hearts content. It's just logical because I've already paid my pirating fee. But hey that's just me.

  20. Re:Where do the libertarians stand? on CA Bill Limits Skin Implantation of RFID Chips · · Score: 1

You definitely misread my post. I did not say I would be willing to allow someone to implant me with RFID. I did say that I am willing to carry a REAL ID since I will be required. Additionally, I never said that getting implanted will automatically give me my chosen career. I'm not sure what orifice you pulled that one from. What I said was if I do end up as a controller I'll have to carry an ID with RFID in it, which is an acceptable trade off to me. If I were opposed to the REAL ID card I could simply find work at an FBO or some private airfield that hires their own controllers, at less pay of course. And finally, controllers don't get fired when airlines lose revenue. Controllers work for the FAA and are government employees.

Strangely enough, when you put it that way, yes.

The employees then have the freedom to choose to work elsewhere. The market should fix itself.

I say this as a college student studying air traffic control. Assuming I work for the FAA, I will be required to have one of those REAL ID card that most Libertarians are in a fit over. I am willing to make that trade off for the career I want.
