I've declined three employer-funded trips to business meetings and conferences in the USA in the past couple of years. The thought of having some jackbooted stormtroo^H^H^Homeland Security officer with a German shepherd on a leash screaming at me to produce my "PAPERS! PAPERS!" just turns me off. The USA just isn't a place I want to visit any more.
I'm far more productive with my 13" Macbook than I ever was with my 17" Acer. OS comparisons notwithstanding, the Macbook is small enough and light enough that I am more much likely to take it with me when I'm away from the office.
Fuck, if (when he's old enough to go to school) my son does not come home with at least one serious contact injury PER YEAR I'm going to be worried he's not growing up properly.
At first glance, I don't see why this is being described as the return of a tech-industry bubble. What's happening now is an ADVERTISING-INDUSTRY bubble.
The Kansas State Board of Education today released a statement denying the existence of any "meteorite", instead describing the object as "a rock put in place by God when he created the Earth 6000 years ago".
Only in America. Out here in the civilised Rest Of The World, it still means "free from prejudice or bigotry; open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc."
It took me a while, and many raised eyebrows, before I realised that some Americans use the word as an INSULT.
My son became a person, to me, somewhere around 5 or 6 months gestation. By that time he was reactive to light and sound (he would squirm away from bright light shining on my partner's belly, and would "jump" at loud noise nearby), demonstrated preferences in music (kicked and squirmed around for Bach cello suites, became still for Miles), and knew the sound of my voice and, of course, my partner's.
*I* had a relationship with him long before he was born. I can only guess, now, at how intimate the relationship must be for the mother whose own body has been shared with the child.
No, what you really should be fearing is Religious Fanatics (Iran anyone?) getting hold of Nukes.
I'm more afraid of the Religious Fanatics (USA anyone?) who ALREADY have nukes.
There's only one country that has ever been so evil as to use nuclear weapons on human beings -- on CIVILIANS, no less -- and that is the United States of America.
Yes, but the Daily Show is not SUPPOSED to have "substance". It's on the COMEDY CHANNEL for chrissakes.
To say that the Daily Show has as much substance as network news is a vague statement about the Daily Show; to say that the news has as little substance as the Daily Show is a sharp criticism of the news.
You know what I'd expect? I would expect he'd agree with you, then with his squad mates stalk you, rape you, murder your entire family, and burn down your house to hide the evidence.
XP is basically 2000 with added multimedia, games, and hardware support... As far as I can tell, people who still use 2000 by choice are either ignorant or just dumb.
Or maybe they see no reason for buying a whole new hideously-overpriced operating system for "added multimedia and games" if their hardware is already supported by Win2K?
As far as *I* can tell, there's only one thing that XP has over Win2K: a terminal services client "out of the box". XP Remote Desktop is bloody good.
I've almost reached the point where I don't care. Or rather, I care about the music rather than the reproduction. I'd rather listen to a third-generation dubbed mono cassette tape of Glenn Gould playing Bach than a pristine CD of the Pussycat Dolls or whatever shit the "music" industry is selling these days.
Repeat after me:
Voting will not do anything about the problem.
Once again:
Voting will not do anything about the problem.
COUNTING the votes is the only thing that will do something about the problem.
Mod parent up.

NB: the message was not TO GamePolitics, since they're not involved in the proceedings. They just got hold of a copy.

NetCaptor has had tabbed browsing far long than Mozilla.

Liberal, for instance

I said back in 2002 that I would never buy a PC again, and that my next computer would be a Mac.
I said that myself, and have bought two since then (a Core-Duo-based Mini, and a Macbook). Couldn't be happier.
I see all these articles about annoying "features" of Vista and think to myself "What do I care? I'll never use it."
It only has to happen once.
To (probably mis)quote Bruce Schneier, "trying to prevent bits from being copyable is like trying to prevent water from being wet".

There's this distribution called Ubuntu. Maybe you've heard of it?

breast cancer is bad.
Noone is immune, it knows no boundaries, rich and poor, famous or not it could hit.
And more people die of prostate cancer than of breast cancer. Yet, strangely, I see no huge PR campaign against it. I guess breasts are more trendy.
You know what I'd expect? I would expect he'd agree with you, then with his squad mates stalk you, rape you, murder your entire family, and burn down your house to hide the evidence.
That's the way we are.
Edited for accuracy.
The US Armed Forces, winning hearts and minds!
With your ignorance of geography, I can only assume you're American. My sympathies. Nice work on that whole "War on Terror" thing, by the way.
