  1. Not a surprise really on Duchovny to Quit X-Files · · Score: 1

Duchovny's contract was up after this coming season anyway, and he most likely would have left even if Fox didn't get caught up in a game of greed. He had originally wanted to quit after five seasons, but they threw too much cash at him at the time.

Anyway, GA is still under contract for this season and the next, so all the x-philes out there have at least two more seasons to look forward to. With the dropoff in show quality over the last two seasons though they probably should have made the last season the series finale.

The agencies I've dealt with, and it always seems to be the same three or four agencies here in MN, just can't find people who know what they're dealing with. That simple fact has made my life hell over the last year. Of course I applied at Red Hat, Penguin, and VA just for kicks and didn't get a response either. So maybe I just suck. :P

If they are *really* serious about supporting Linux and what the OSS community stands for, they'll go through the hassle of removing third party code in the products and making it free (as in source). Until they commit in such a way, I'm not going to support them.

If you want to turn on all the graphical bells & whistles (sliding windows, opaque windows, etc.) then it will naturally take a speed hit. However, they key here is that you can turn all of it off, on, or just have some of it running. Thanks to the nifty graphical config these days, it's just a matter of clicking a few options.

The FSF and GNU project gets a ton of credit. I had this discussion with a friend about a week ago in fact. He's on the GNU/Linux side, I still call it plain old Linux.

My point is that anyone who uses Linux can't go very long without GNU popping up somewhere. So on the basis of your argument, which is summed up at the end, giving credit where it's due, isn't the GNU project getting enough? I like RMS, I like the FSF; the world would be much less interesting without either one. But calling it GNU/Linux based on your argument of "giving credit" does nothing but give a cheap ego boost to those involved.

If you want to call it GNU/Linux, go ahead, I won't try and stop you. Just don't try and stop me from calling it Linux.

They can make all the money they want, but these days it seems like I can't visit a Linux/OSS related site without being hit by several mentions of the company (not to mention VA Research banners being everywhere as well, which I'm also quite sick of. Every site is hosted by VAR now.)

Every GNU/Linux "review" now is really just a review of what RH has done lately, and how it compares to NT this week. Maybe if you're lucky you'll see SuSE or Debian mentioned, or a reference to slackware being "the true hacker's" distribution, but that's rare. They're definitely starting to alienate people, and they better start paying attention to that, otherwise they *will* be the next slackware.
