I maintain a small research lab, only 5 computers, but we really punish them (installing custom things). We're using Ubuntu since 7.04, never had a single problem with it.
Didn't you noticed the '0' in front of all numbers? Try this in a Python console: ''.join([chr(x) for x in [0165,0162,040,0141,0156,040,0157,0143,0164,0141,0154,040,0147,0145,0145,0153]])
I see you're one of the 45% that still didn't upgrade Firefox ( http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/06/27/1458227 ). If you were using Firefox 3, you'd never be out of RAM. They optimized it so well that all the memory leaks got converted into memory sources! I'm with 2^26 tabs opened, and now I have a petabyte of RAM!!!
I heard Microsoft will start offering an extended version of a FOSS suite, it will be called Ruby-Apache-Postgres-Extended. It seems the technology is already in use, but the customers aren't noticing to be subject of it.
When I was a C++ addict I had the same opinion about Python's indentation. After I started messing with Blender and its scripts, I got over it, and now I just absolutely love Python.
The signal (real code) / noise (extra syntax, e.g. '{}') ratio is much higher in Python.
Actually, the point is: if you learn a small subset of Blender's commands, all the rest is pretty intuitive to deduce, because all share the same concepts. The hard part is to learn the initial concepts, after that all commands follow the same logic and are natural to invoke, and that's the reason for the great productivity boost.
It's not USA's fault, it is human nature's. All over the world there is this "synergy" between governments and corporations, that gives us the crap laws that goes opposite to the public interest. Here in Brazil this behavior is just as much pronounced.
Greed drives self-assembling functional structures within the societies' inner workings, and these structures are almost impossible to eradicate.
It's sad.
Hopefully, initiatives such as the "Change Congress" will hinder greed's progression.
I don't use windows since XP, I actually never touched vista, and probably never will. I'm well employed, and the future seems bright for people with gnu/linux knowledge here (Brazil).
Also, the XO was made to make children think, not to be locked in a specific system.
I release the following code under the Ms-LPL license:
#include <bugs>
int main(int,char**) {
Vista::Core v=new Vista::Core();
v.installDRMHooks(Vista::System::Slowdowns::p0_05) ;
v.launchAnnoyingRandomPopups();
v.setTimeBeforeHang(10);
v.tryToRun();
return 1;// should never reach here }
Hmmmm, I hope that by using their license they'll not sue me for patent infringement...
Too bad I don't have modding points... you deserve an Informative rating. I'm not a native English speaker, so I found your explanation useful. People should read the Slashdot Modding FAQ before modding down posts like yours...
... did they hold Barcelona captive? Spain didn't fight back? omg, that was such a bad joke that I'm going to get rich selling ketchup from the tomatoes you throw:(
He chose exactly the appropriate words: it is a threat, not a big one. It threatens in the sense of hindering GNU/Linux adoption, but it's far from breaking its development.
We should write a petition of users willing to be sued by Microsoft for the alleged infringements. Perhaps if we gather a good number of signatures they'll be forced to either sue us (and be defeated) or stop talking bs.

And if you can read this, 0165 0162 040 0141 0156 040 0157 0143 0164 0141 0154 040 0147 0145 0145 0153
Good boy! Now roll over and play dead...
my deja-vus are getting weirder every time...

And I hadn't seen anything, I'm blind you insensitive clod!
You could never learn Japanese.
be careful, you didn't specify which half you want... ;)
Things are intuitive only if their behavior is consistent. Reinforcement-learning is the basis of intuition.

oh, I see what you're doing!
Step 1 - warn it's not funny
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - PROFIT!!!1!!!
What would happen if a big star collide with a small black hole? Would it be all swallowed? Is there a theoretical way to revert a singularity?
I think he meant "craporations"...
