For the price and features it looks pretty decent. It's only $299.99 for the 40 GB version at buy.com. Compare that with $494.00 for the 40 GB iPod.
What about the size difference you may ask? The Nomad has a volume of 11.88 cubic inches. (3 in x 0.9 in x 4.4 in) The iPods volume is 6.89 cubic inches (2.4 in x 0.7 in x 4.1 in). The difference seems to be the fact that the iPod uses a 1.8 inch drive whereas the Nomad doesn't.
There is a minimal difference in weight though. The iPod is 6.2 oz and the Nomad is 7.2. What do you guys think?
Still, the basic question I asked hasn't been answered. Prove what you're saying. You made a comment in the original post that may be true, I don't know, I just want some evidence for it.
As for this new comment of yours... as far as I know Microsoft supports ethernet (patent #4,063,220) A protocal first detailed by Dr. Bob Metcalfe on May 22, 1973 in a memo. It was created at Palo Alto. Microsoft was created in 1975. So I think that Microsoft does support things not tied to Windows.
As another post showed you, Microsoft is part of the Bluetooth coalition.
Incorrect. That's the first time I've heard that 3 judges on an Appellate court can't make precedent. If the poster was right about that, we'd have no precedent virtually.
The only federal courts that have 9 judges regularly is the Supreme Court. Occasionally there will be a 9 judge panel in a federal circuit appeals court, that is termed "en banc." That is for rare situations, but 3 judges is the norm at the federal level and many states, including my state Illinois.

Now the question becomes are we willing to sell out to MS for these clips? The answer for most of the people on this board is probably no. The answer for the masses is probably sure, so it looks like we'll be stuck with this MS video standard down the line.
The problem with the SD cards is they use up a slot and require you to change cards if you want different data. Wouldn't somthing onboard be a lot cooler?
Most people I know that have PDAs download dictionaries, thesauri, maps into their RAM. Would it be possible and realistic for manufacturers to sell PDAs with ROMs that have data like the aforementioned dictionaries, thesauri, & maps? Perhaps this static memory would include music files, and books from Project Gutenberg that are in the public domain.
I guess this would make the PDAs akin to the Hitchikers Guide to the Universe.
Would it be possible to add "data ROMS" where PDAs could come with ROMs with dictionaries, thesaurui, maps, and books a la Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe?
I think it would be a great way to add extra utility to PDAs and people wouldn't have to use up precious limited RAM and save on memory cards. is this feasible?

In reality these inflammatory headlines actually dilute the true story and really don't help our community. It makes us look reactionary. Maybe we should be proposing workable solutions instead of posting stories that reduce the credibility of this website, and nerds all over the world. Stop serving as a mouthpiece for a select few and start working towards something positive!
So I'm wondering if this chip is worth waiting for in a laptop. The main power usage in a laptop should be the screen, discs like a HD or CD drive, and then a CPU, right?
And right now tha Banias is so far off in the future it won't change my upcoming purchase of an ultralight notebook.
Well, the B&W iPaq cost me $135, plus $120 for a 256 MB CF card. $250 for mp3 playback and it does everything a Palm does. And I paid a ridiculous some, $200, for a used Vx. $50 and it does so much more.

Could you clarify your "clockrate remains the same, while IPC is strictly tied to a benchmark" comment? I don't quite understand it.
What is the IPC of this new PIV relative to other CPUs out there like the G4 and Alpha, etc...

1) I can buy a CPU with a shitty/decent heatsink
2) I can buy a heatsink/fan that kicks ass, and overclock my CPU.

Well, I have a B&W iPaq that I just love. Batteries last a long time, and they only drain if I play mp3s on them.
I used to have the Vx, but I wanted the multimedia capabilities of the iPaq. I like that the new ones use SD cards built in.
