Given the extreme poverty of the country, such a switch is not a coup to me. I'm more surprised that Microsoft was allowed to sell Cuba copies of Windows in the first place.
Isn't it really unimportant these days where you work, geographically? Please tell me where you live, where traffic, weather, and cost of living are non-issues.
Granted, the patent system is being abused left and right and is often used just as a precursor to litigation, but is it reasonable to believe that anything that this Congress produces will alleviate any of the problems?
This issue, along with IP, Copyrighting, and DRM should ideally be tackled all at once. However, given that both Republicans and Democrats regularly side with big business, I would expect no change whatsoever to open up competition and innovation.
Agreed. Competition in video gaming is necessary to ensure quality and innovation. When Madden got the exclusive NFL license (thereby eliminating 2K Sports's competition), the franchise went to crap.
I'm sorry, but anyone who is "intimidated" by the prospect of having to plug something into their TV would likely not have the technological know-how to even turn the console on and stick the disk in. To say that this is the market you're aiming for is just idiotic.
I'm really hoping something was lost in translation in this interviwew.
But some people shy away from them, just by looking at the shape of the console, or they think it is complicated when they have to plug the machine into their television set. However, I think if it is something that is simple to connect and play, it can be enjoyed by anybody.."
Nice. He's essentially saying the Wii is for morons.
"So what we suggest is having an encryption solution (and) having a tracking and recovery solution so that if you do get into trouble you can do something after the fact." - CEO of some company that will *gladly* sell you this.
40 players with absolutely no lag or frame rate drops. When there's only a handful of people accessing the server, I'd certainly hope there would be no lag.
Is it really that shocking that hardware manufacturers are interested in having drivers developed for free that would enable them to reach additional consumers?
Oh.. wait. It's Linux. So that means it's news. Yeah, right.
You're missing the point.
These consoles are intended and expected to have life spans of 5 to 10 years. The push for 1080p is based on the idea that in a couple years, a much higher percentage of households will have HDTVs that support 1080p.
No, you just made it clear that you have no idea what you're talking about. The Solaris machine was likely used to monitor the routes, not to do the actual routing.
Might be good OS
But with only twelve users
Grim future ahead.

You don't use MySpace, do you?
MySpace != information.
Gratuitous, horrific violence is OK, just as long as you don't say any naughty words!

Awesome.. now I can see a "Google Sponsored Link" to buy a real AK-47 while playing Grand Theft Auto...
Full disclosure = A good thing.

I wonder if France has figured out a way to surrender in Second Life yet.

Open source your gene research, or else someone might steal your dinosaur embryos and ruin Jurassic Park.
Also, in the video game world, "Critically Acclaimed" can mean that a few 15 year olds that write for video game blogs liked the game.
Oh.. wait. It's Linux. So that means it's news. Yeah, right.
You used "government" and "innovation" in the same sentence.
No nothing can stop... The Animal!
Now it sounds like these guys aren't even trying anymore. I could've sworn I saw this in an episode of Star Trek.
You're missing the point.

Did you work in Sales by any chance?
Clearly, there are many gamers who are still interested in this style of play.
Of course, the author of the article is an idiot for comparing The Sims to Dead Rising.
