(Some webcasters also plan to broadcast or direct listeners to an all-day talk show on the issues produced by WOLF FM's Steve Wolf.)"

As Molly Ivins often says about influence buying in politics, it's what's legal that's shocking. I don't doubt that one of the things all those expensive lawyers Microsoft has hired can do for them is advise them how to stay (just) within the letter of the law. No lawyer worth his salt advises his client to break laws.

We will see later today whether the US House of Representatives has the ability to close off one of the shocking things that are legal: unlimited "soft" money that makes limits on donations directly to candidates meaningless. We will see.

Tuvalu is a democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch, represented by a governor general, who has mostly ceremonial power. Actual power is in an elected council and prime minister.

Tuvalu is also quite poor; a group of sandy islands with few natural resorces and little industry. The gov't gets much of its money from selling stamps and coins. And now, from selling its TLD for $45 million. Great deal for them, probably.

Last year, several months after my grandfather died, my mother was outwardly composed, even happy, as we went shopping. And then the song "Blue Christmas" came on the store's music system, and my mother started openly weeping. I hugged her--that's all ZI could do.

To those who have suffered such a terrible loss as happened a week ago, there will be many innocuous things, songs included, that will trigger grief. There is no way to avoid that, I am sad to say.

A little common sense about what to play on the radio is in order, but a list of what might make listeners sad, when we are all in mourning, is impossible.
