That's a very interesting post, the only question that I have is how viral are these plants? If they were to be introduced into an ecosystem what kind of impact would they have after they served their intended purpose?
Contaminated isn't the word for Myspace. More like blight on the face of humanity that seeps glittery pus over open wounds reeking of rotten meat and cheese. Also it is painful to look at.
Actually I have a bit of time some I'm going to reply with a little short note. In general I'm pretty apathetic to people's choice of religion because it's just that a choice. I'll also agree that most religions do more harm than good and are good for a lot of people. The only issues I have is when making controversial decisions reagarding the lives and happiness of other people that sometimes a person's religion will make the decision for them. If it doesn't affect you and yours and all it serves is to maybe bring a little happiness to someone's life then I think the moral highground is to sometimes let it go even if your religion says that it's wrong. Also yes, I have had bad experiences with religions. Mostly because I spent two years fighting in Iraq and saw more fighting over foolish ideals than anyone should ever have to.
Whew that's a lot to answer and as I'm about to head off to bed I'll think about it another day. I just wanted to say that I've marked you as friend since you can provide discourse on subjects like this without getting angry, petty, or vile. The above discussion is part of the reason I come to slashdot, it gives me insight into the views and experience others have so that I can learn from it. Thank you.
That's a very good point, I guess they don't use cracker because that could be some kind of racial slur and heaven forbid a private organization use a word that in some way may be used as a racial slur because it would violate someone's right somewhere and hurt their feelings.
On the first point, I do apologize because I mispoke myself. I very tired at the moment and not really in the best state of mind. For the second that hasn't always been the case, it's fairly recent and modern. Throughout history leaders of church/state nations used the religion to garner taxes and make the man at the top/emporer/king/whatever rich and the man/woman was often the physical embodiment of some supreme being. You'll notice that I didn't specify any religion and you make it out like I was attacking christianity in general. I really wasn't I honestly don't care, people can and will believe what they want and more power to them, just don't force it on me and mine and for fuck's sake don't fight over it. As for the third time I'll take you up on your use of the Bible as an example. Most people who read the Bible attend a church, most of them in turn present a tithe to the church, so yes for most people it's a return on investment so that they can feel good about themselves and have someone tell them that the choices they make will be forgiven and that the morality of the church protects them. I would like to pose a question though, why does the church feel a need to force it's morality on others. Take for instance gay marriage, personally I'm not gay but I don't care if others are. So in my reasoning why is it wrong somehow for homosexual couples to get married. All the legislation that is trying to ban gay marriage can be traced to one thing, christian religion. Finally for the final one, yes you're right if that's what you believe that doesn't mean that every religion believes that way. One final question that I have, if I don't believe in your God and live a moral and ethical life will I go to your heaven if indeed you are right? If not, why? The way I see it if I live a good life and don't believe in your God and it turns out that your were right and he does exist then why can't he forgive that little transgression?
Exactly. Look at L. Ron Hubbard. He said that the easiest way to get rich is start a religion. So he created Scientology who's sole goal is to get money from the rich to stroke their overbloated ego. They let in non-rich people, but you have to pay to advance in the religion. The same goes for just about every church, it's just that the rest of them take your money to actually do society some good once in a while and make sure the cats at the top are fat and happy. They also give you a set of morals and ethics in return for your investment, not that it makes a whole lot of difference since if you're going to be moral you will and if not you won't. Religion really doesn't have a whole lot to do with it other than pushing the blame for you actions somewhere else.
I think this is great news. Honestly if M$ will not follow other software copyrights does that mean that I don't have to follow M$ copyrights? Oh yeah I forgot it's one of the Golden Rules. Yet again he who has the gold makes the rules.
The Slashdot Botnet has struck down linux.com. According to our sources this botnet is commanded by a cmdrtaco. In a recent interview with "cmdrtaco" he stated "We like to take down sites for fun, it's not so much malicous as just a side effect." We'll keep you updated on new developments as they happen.
Actually with parental consent you can sign up and ship out while you're 17. A buddy of mine turned 18 while we were in Iraq. This is just a bunch of old men screaming about something they have no understanding of. Really if I'm old enough to kill a man for my government then I guess that I should be old enough to buy a game that lets me kill someone virtually. Also something interesting to listen to is Wil Wheaton's PAX keynote speech. I don't have the link offhand but if you go to Penny Arcade you can download it and listen to it. I really enjoyed his perspective on games and gamers.
Aaaaannnd? Really how is that any different than any other country. Let me break it down Technology=Power Governments like power so naturally governments want to keep power and get more power. So advancing technology is in the best interest of the country and giving it away is not. Of course there's going to be a double standard, as long as there's war (SPOILER ALERT: with humans there always will be until we destroy ourselves) it's in every country's best interest to hoard technology/power and keep it away from potential enemies. I know it's great to slam the US, it's a pretty popular hobby lately what with how much of an ass GW can be, but with this one it's not just the US any country with the resources to do so would do it too. Do you really think that China are altruistic and benevolent? Really? I would love to have this ideological view of the world where everything is fluffy bunnies and every human is out to help other humans, but that's just not the case. When it comes down to it every country is out for its best interests, I don't care where they're from or what kind of people live there.
on SUN with this because it's hard to predict how the market is going to react. I really don't think that it's going to make all that much difference since it's still the same company and all the same assets that they had before now. Still though with all the things coming out SUN what with all the GPL software and the deal with IBM I think that things are starting to look a little brighter. Also is it just me or does it seem like with the IBM deal that SUN is wanting to get deeper entrenched in the software business IBM wants to start to get out of it?
Not to mention this thing would be great in crash cart like equipment. For instance with one of these I could have my crash cart, my Fireberd 8000, and a whole suite of test equipment all in one easy to manage package. It would have to be a specialty built system, but the reason I like these with their low power requirement means that a cart with a good battery can run all this for a while and I don't have to rely on rack power or pulling a tile to get at one of the power mains underneath.
I had a friend who could actually clap one hand. It was the most amazing thing that I ever witnessed even though it didn't really sound all that different from the sound of two hands clapping.
The President grants executive powers to do what he wants. Seriously though, it shouldn't even really be one U.S. citizen that they do this with. When does the fear mongering to get broad reaching government powers end? I'm so damned tired of it, and this country has slid so far downhill in the last 5 or so years due to it. Just about every other nation looks at the U.S. in a bad light these days because we're prudish, invasive, annoying, and hipocritical. I'm getting to the point where I want to purge the entire administration from the lowest congressman all the way up and start over. Take out the special interest groups, no corporate sponsorships for campaigns, and get rid of the all the harpy lobbyists. I'm just so sick of it.

Holy huge wall of unintelligible text. You must be a Perl coder.
At first I read that as stinky finger......I laughed in a nervous uncomfortable kind of way until I realized that it said pinky finger. Ahh I love being at work at 2:13 in the morning.
Honestly, I couldn't agree more. I'm so tired of this constant fear mongering and misdirection that the government is doing. So many people right now are happy to take whatever kind of shit the people on the hill throw at them so long as they can still make their buck and go home to kiss the kids, not to say that they aren't aware of the problem they either just don't care or are unwilling to step outside the box and say enough is enough. I really sadly feel that in the next twenty or so years that it may come to armed revolt (assuming it's still legal to own firearms) and I don't want that at all.
That's why anytime that I read or use anything related to microsoft I'm fully outfitted in tinfoil and duct tape. That way while not a fool proof solution I'm at least using safer practices with regards to doing it and let's face the real facts here, abstinence just isn't a realistic option sometimes.
Most of the vehicles used in the military right now are flex-fuel anyway. You can damned near pour vodka into an Apache gunship and it'll keep going on that. They all use a pretty similar fuel (JP-8) standard, but are capable of using many fuels that you would find locally should you not have access to the logistics supply line.
