Perhaps it could be rephrased to "pruning" as opposed to "fad". The iterations and bubbles will continue just like in the real world. That simply means that the weak ideas get thrown off the truck while the solid ones remain and even get stronger.
Amazon, Ebay and other businesses that provide real services and generate a profit will be firmly entrenched in the "next Internet" no matter what. Like running over a mouse in an 18-wheeler, they probably won't even feel or notice the carnage underneath. All they have to do is make sure the truck stays on the road and that no one passes them.
A seamless "Unity for Ubuntu" and DirectX 9.0c would be the final pieces of the puzzle for a lot of folks. It doesn't help the cause for pushing development of native Linux apps. But it would certainly increase the installed base of non-Windows OSes and that's a solid baby step.
Trust me, it works great! Just put the whole unit (don't forget the power supply and bag) on the top shelf and be sure to use extra soap in the dispenser.
Give it a try tonight and let us know how it worked out.
They certainly compete, just like Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Novell compete with each other, but we all have to live in the same desktop computing ecosystem. I'd prefer to use diplomacy and cooperation, than go to war. Linspire plans on working with Microsoft, just like we have with dozens of other partners, to build a better Linux. We will never force anyone to use what we produce. The choice to use, or not to use, the "better" Linux we strive to produce will always be up to you, but I like the idea of finding a mutually advantageous way for Microsoft and Linspire to work together.
I'm sure some people who feel strongly about this will turn to other distributions, and I respect that. I do, however, think many more will end up coming to Linspire Linux for the enhanced experience they find from a distribution that works with as many partners as possible in an effort to make Linux work better. This announcement doesn't take any choices away from anyone; it just adds one more option. Choice is a good thing. I'm glad we have lots of them today as we choose a desktop OS."
The letter focuses on usability through interoperability as opposed to just plain-jane patent protection. Try replacing "Linspire" with "Ubuntu" and read it again to see if it sounds so farfetched. Maybe, maybe not.
Speaking as a (self-professed) tolerant, non-Christian, it seems pretty clear that the folks you mentioned don't/won't listen to anyone who is not a Christian.
We need to respect that free speech applies to all. As a Christian yourself, you're in a much better position to get them to change if it bothers you so much. The non-Christians among us are probably also thinking "GO AWAY" and "SHUT THE HELL UP" but realize it's a First Amendment right and forms the foundation of this country's ideology.
So some of us just sit back, absorb the barbs and try to ignore it unless it affects us directly (i.e. legally). After all, they're doing nothing wrong by exersing their right to free speech. You OTOH are much closer to their philosophy and have a better chance to create change if you so choose.
Maybe his parents are Ma Bell and Uncle Sam.
Rumor has it they've been in bed together for years.
A perfect reminder why you should never buy the cow....because then you'll have to deal with the bull.
Sure does. Submit a creationism story to test it out.

Yeah, a perfectly good career down the tubes.
Burn in hell, Joe Sixpack.
That's because their thought process is "Well, CTU uses Cisco equipment and Jack's still alive so it must be good".

In related news, documents surfaced yesterday that prove a long-time suspicion that Cmdr Taco is indeed "Anonymous Coward".
Cmdr Taco could not be reached for comment. "Anonymous Coward", on the other hand, eagerly responded to our query with the comment "FP?".
More information as it becomes available.
I'm pretty sure my shoes and coffee mug are going to make it through this ordeal.

Is Microsoft terrified of a world where Windows can be virtualized and forced to take a back seat to Mac OS X or Linux?
