    Kingston/corsair offer life-time guarantee.

    Prices are ridiculously low for a Gb of memory considering the amount of produce, material and quality, so anything cheaper will most likely be lesser, be it defect, scam or whatever, unless you're lucky and you did get a working module from the rejected batch.

    The memory business is crowded. Getting a life-time guarantee from a business with an *existing* and responsive RMA department for only a couple of bucks extra buys you time and less frustration.

    Cheap-skating on memory is for those who like flipping modules on a free afternoon.

    I have the distinctive feeling Slashdot has become a free consultancy forum for entrepreneurs.

    In the earlier days of Slashdot, hardware was way more expensive and way more difficult to come by. Never heard any questions like this.

    If you don't know how to build a custom rig on a budget, Slashdot is the place.

    So, please, go ahead and learn new languages if you want, it won't do any harm, but you'll only advance as a programmer by constantly questioning your own designs and thinking about how they can be improved.

    And remember, while the road might seem harsh & cold and mountains too steep to climb, there always will be PERL.

    Trademarks can be very valuable, not just to the company, but to the consumer (..)

    If it's a Sony, it'll probably hold up for a while - if it's an apparently-identical Daewoo, it'll probably die the day after the warranty runs out

    Sansui, Commodore, Akai anyone?

    Trademarks are like buzzwords and mean little. Local experienced & trustworthy retailers do so much more. Even if your trademarked TV breaks outside warrant.

    Javascript is the glue and the glitz for web apps.

    McAlister points out that Javascript is inept for maintaining large apps, with which I agree.

    The hours burnt at getting javascript right and maintainable are ridiculous compared to other modern languages.

    No alternative for frontend web programming, fine, but I'd never consider javascript for the backend.

    Client-server apps remind me of the time intranet was not a term.

    Phishing, spamming, sniffing, exploiting etc. are a fact of life for years now, and will continue to do so.

    It's pretty simple, the old protocols http, dns, etc. that were developed to *function*, do function, but no longer meet the requirements.

    The reason why security *has* to be pushed to the forefront is because it *is* required for today and the future.

    Usually, it's about budget and security becomes an afterthought or calculated risk.

    So, IMHO the GP is making an excellent point.

    Nice picture-- however, I'd use an etched notch at the top.

    Having an etched notch at the top allows us tinkerers to carve a notch in the bottom, thereby effectively doubling USB 3.0 to 10Gb/s!!!
