This is actually a counter argument to the 'large target' defense Misrosoft uses to explain the large numbers of succesfull attacks on their OS.

So by putting this question (even if you do run it on windows) effectively renders that particular defence moot.

OK, the EU can repay the fine (with intrest) but once the code is open it stays open.

The reason wings work, isn't because of the presure difference between de slow and fast flowing air above and below the wing. It is because of the direction the airflow has leaving the wing (pointing down). And So it proves that even if you don't know how wings work, you can still fly.

Well the idea is that each Freenet node is running on a random port. So its not just 'check port 19114' to see wether a server is running a node. However in the upcomming 0.5 release of Freenet it will be possible to change portnumbers and even IP addresses of established nodes. But if you are really interested in the technical details I invite you to visit the freenet website at www.freenetproject.org or join the freenet mailinglist(s) (see the website for details).

  14. Re:The problem I've always seen with Freenet... on SQL Over FreeNet · · Score: 2

The reason Freenet drops content, is that the protocol provides for the situation where there isn't enough storage. This means the larger the network, the less reason there is for stuff to drop off. However there is a bit of a catch 22 here as long as the network is small it suffers form dataloss, and as long as it suffers from dataloss people are less likely to adopt Freenet. (So everyone run nodes!)
Now, I have to admit there are some issues with the current aggressive caching strategy that causes the amount of available storage to be smaller than it needs to be, but these issues are being addressed.
I hope that in a not so distant future we can say that data dropping from Freenet is more of a theoretical problem than a real one.

Beta was first. VHS followed; though its picture quality was technically inferior it was cheaper and allowed greater recording time.

Actually there was a third alternative wich was better than both Beta and VHS wich was Video 2000 It had double sided 4 hour tapes (8 hours total!) and a goto function (the time was encoded on the tape) great slomotion.

The *real* reason VHS won was the availabillity of Porn.
