I was actually at the screening for Firefly in Austin, and I figure I'd throw this in there: Nathan Fillion (Malcolm) and Ron Glass (Book) were there, and they said there would most likely never be another TV series. Movies are far more lucrative, first of all, and they would -have- to go through Fox again. Nothing, I think, will make Joss want to work Firefly through Fox.
I love when people hear / see me type and say, 'Now you're just playing with me.' and I turn the monitor so that they can see that I was actually dictating every word they said in the conversation, and most of their gestures, as well. It's a parlor trick, but typing fast can have its advantages. I can type with relatively good accuracy (I'd gauge around 85-90% accurate) at around 120wpm, just slightly slower than I talk. It makes for good, quick notes during meetings that have a web portion..
Surely, I don't. Maybe it's from Juvenal, maybe not. But since I read it from Heinlein, that's who I mean. Juvenal may have gotten it from someone else, and it's just an insight into a very basic problem with democracy: the mob. People are the issue. That's a decided underlying current in a lot of Heinlein's work, and just because one man thought the same thing as another doesn't make his contribution to it any less.
er, being married has nothing to do with having kids. Perhaps the people who you know who've gotten married got married to someone who didn't share their same outlook. For instance, in the case of your friend who didn't want a kid, he married someone who did. That's a very fundamental difference that will cause a lot of strain.
That's not true. Why aren't we doing a simple server/client scenario? Lottery companies are able to certify, and are legally bound by a contract if a terminal spits out a lottery ticket with any numbers on it -- why can't the same kind of technology be used in voting?:P

Er, MMJ heads are distinctive and easy to tell at a glance what they are. Sure, they're a bastard, but you don't have to worry about what the pinout/might/ be if you inherit a messy 'IT supply' closet.
Not likely part of any Union. Many government positions have anti-union clauses. Mostly, it's civilians that deal with unions, not the government-employed.
Ohio's an at-will employment state. If he didn't get a contract specifically stating reasons for termination, or a specific length of time, it doesn't matter. They can fire him just because they can.
So what you're saying is that the students are illegally jamming the university? That's good, the university has something to go on for shutting down the student's access points.
We already breed them. Athletes are often handled like cattle in some places, training programs culling the weak and promoting traits in gene pools through selective procreation. I don't see how gene doping is going to be anything new, it'll just be faster.
Actually, they just reuse the bottles, they don't break them down -- that's what the rebate is about. Because it costs 20c to make a bottle, you give a rebate of 10c or 15c, and you're still saving money.
However, when you just 'recycle' -- the glass gets broken up. Company/drink based initiatives are about saving the container, recycling in its more widespread form is about reusing the glass material itself. Budweiser won't use Milwaukee bottles, etc.
So, what you're talking about should be termed more 'container recycling' not 'glass recycling' because it's the container that's important, not the fact that it's made of glass.
But that said, you should ALWAYS take your SOs relationship concerns seriously. If you are just a gamer, and that's just the way it's going to be, well, maybe the relationship isn't the right kind for you. If you aren't really, and it's just this one game, maybe you should adjust your habits to a point where you spend time with your SO while you can still get some game time in.
I upgraded her machine, got it to a level that she could comfortably play CoH in a decent resolution (at 800x600, everything's all clustered in), and then actually let her play on my account for a bit until she just said 'hey, let's go buy me my own'. Since then, she's playing it more than I do (I still like FPSs and RTSs as well as the one MMORPG I play), so it looks like that avenue is going well;)
I was actually more interested in learning about the Stealth capabilities than the fact it was running NT. When did Slashdot become a source purely for OS considerations?;)
That depends -- is it a good spot? Is it something they do once in awhile? If it were worthwhile -- such as it were a 100k/yr doctor, and parking where he did meant that he got to do something important -- like bone some nurses or something equally effective -- maybe he would continually park there.
I wish so many other people just realized that, instead of blaming devs. This game is created with a certain mentality in mind. Just because Person A was GREAT at EQ or DAoC or AshCall.. that doesn't mean anything in CoH, and they blame the devs for it. Ugh.
The places that there are hits, from what I can see, are places where the ATI card is doing 6x AA and the nVidia is doing 8x. In other words, they're using two seperate sampling types and posting them as the same results. They're just maxing the two cards and putting them side by side, with only a cursory explanation of the differences.
A story was leaked off a satire website indicated a city in CA that never did its own research. This was to test the gullibility of Internet news hounds, who believe anything written is canon, and that there isn't so much bureaucracy in a given city's government that someone wouldn't've have had a chemist look at some stuff involving environmental concerns, or that local businesses wouldn't've laughingly called to report the reports as false.
What about the idea that taking -any- chemical (neuro or not) does indeed begin the body on a path of not making it. It's been shown that people can make themselves diabetic (practically) by high intake of sugar and sugar-related complex proteins. Can the same not be said of the rest of the human body? A dependency can develop because the body just doesn't really make the chemical anymore?
I strongly believe that stress and any activity that requires concentration are linked. I also believe it depends on the person. For example, I never really feel stress in working on any of our high availability server until I have someone breathing down my neck, asking me every 5 seconds if I've figured out what the problem was. It's not that easy.
But, there's also people I know who are in fairly easy situations (no personal accountability for availability of things, but have accountability for ability to do things with the availability -- IE, no direct responsibility over data, but have to use data in certain things), who get stressed a bit over the inability of others to do things.

Well, maybe a pile of money or something.

BREAD AND CIRCUSES!
One of the more brilliant insights of Heinlein.

That's not terrorism, that's cultural improvement!
He's only a terrorist if you don't agree with him, after all.

You forgot that Bush needs to remark about how America is Safer through Warfare.

With a different name and a different consulting company every 3 or 4 months with the 'we found some great stuff on these drives'. Oi vey.

Here's to hoping he decided to put a little more thought into dialogue and less into the special effects.
