You'd be surprised what the real world is actually like.

At least in the real world you can tell your boss you don't have the time for stuff and unless he's a complete asshat then you don't have to work for more than eight hours per day.

This was one of the things that bothered me about school, you never got to choose how much work you had to do on a given day, some days you'd have a total of ten hours of work, others four and on others twelve. This creates quite a bit of stress if you are also trying to have a normal life and you can't make changes to your daily schedule just to fit in school (just like I and many with me would refuse to change our plans for the evening just because the boss decided that it's crunchtime and we should all be willing to put in five extra hours today).

The flip side is that because we live longer, we must work longer. Everyone seems to be pursuing a longer life, but almost no one wants to work past the age of 65. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you live longer, then you must work longer. That's the rub.

That's a bit of a myth, one of the big problem in today's post-industrial world seems to be how to keep people employed when it takes less and less people to do the same or more work. I've read a couple of good articles (in swedish unfortunately) about how automation is being avoided because it would result in increased unemployment.

It seems that the hard part about going from a world where everyone must work to a world where only a few truly willing must work is to get people to make the change, perhaps it's simply so ingrained into our heads that one "must" work (even when there is no work to do)?

I've never been a fan of wireless mice, they always seem to not quite work right, they have heavy batteries and they tend to be optical which is great if things work properly, but a lot of times they don't (I'm not talking about anything huge and constant here, I'm talking "Damnit, the vertex point just jumped halfway across the screen for no apparent reason").

Now, the mice that come with some Wacom tablets I do like. I like how they're lightweight, good for left-handed as well as right-handed users (I'm left-handed) and they have this nice thing where their movement is dictated by how you move the mouse across the tablet so that you could rotate the mouse and it would still move along the x and y-axis of the tablet instead of its own "local" axis... (I hope that makes sense)

Uhm, did you pay any attention to what was going on at the time? The rest of the world (there is such a thing you know..) wanted to give the weapons inspectors more time before deciding on whether or not to invade. What happened instead was that the US decided that since the rest of the UN didn't agree with them they would just ignore the UN and go forward with the invasion of a sovereign nation on their own (ok, there are a few other countries in the "coalition of willing" but most of them just have a couple of hundred soldiers there to make themselves look good in the eyes of the US).

So kevlar is an offensive weapon because it helps protect our soldiers from being shot? A concrete bunker is an offensive weapon then, since it helps protect our soldiers while they fire their guns.

Kevlar and bunkers can both be used when attacking someone, if you're controlling your artillery from a bunker while your enemy is out in the open (because they have a concrete shortage or something..) then obviously you'd be less hesitant to attack your enemy than if you were also out in the open.

If Iran has nukes, and can reach the US with them, expect terror to go on an immediate rise, because their 2 bit dictator can talk from a position of strength to the US and stop them from ever coming in and rooting out the terrorists. North Korea doesn't do the terror thing like the rest of the Axis of Evil, so I'm not nearly as concerned about them.

Hmm, I'm more worried about ol' Kim than Iran, at least there are elections there, and they're slowly changing to a better society (although they do have a long way to go).

Another interesting little detail is that some people have this crazy idea that one of the reasons for the cultural och political extremism was that the people of Iran didn't like the shah (who was backed by the US, go figure..).

And the US will have to stand idly by as the terrorists destroy democracy in the world.

Actually, as far as I can tell most of us are more afraid of you guys than The Terrorists(tm), seems to have something to do with your self-righteous attitude and your habit of interfering with other countries when you have something to gain from it and bitch about how other countries should help out every once in a while when you don't stand to gain anything from interfering.
