You forgot to very important companies. ZAP is due to deliver their ZAP-X crossover utility vehicle in 2010 which is, first of all, nicely designed and offers a range comparable to any mid-size sedan. There's also Phoenix who already produces reasonably priced EVs for fleets and plans on introducing consumer models next year.

but what prevented us from going any further with it was the pricing model that they decided to adopt - $5/node/month for access to the "dashboard" - the real-time monitoring software that they were developing for managing the networks.

$5 a month to be able to use the dashboard? Come on, really? And then Meraki changes the EULA and FORCIBLY updates the software on your piece of hardware which you actually are no longer using their software on. That's not fair, plain and simple.

Are they trying to offset it by upping the system access fee? I thought Teachers wanted to put Bell back on top? *sigh* I'm so confuzzled.

Even to suggest the idea that businesses will eventually go all wireless is absolutely ludicrous. Cell phones can't replace a full blown PRI with 50 DID's on it, and cell phones also can't tie into a PBX yet in any way (except for calls being forwarded to your cell phone when you turn on your forwarding).

I sell Panasonic and Toshiba phone systems for a living, and I actually see the exact opposite of what this article is suggesting. A lot of upstart companies will start out by using a couple of cell phones at first, and then once they have 5 or 6 employees that actually need a phone on their desk and 3 business lines coming in, they call me and start looking at KSU/PBX phone systems.

On the other hand, watching everything eventually turn to VoIP IS a possibility and is something that all the phone system vendors are working towards. However I won't be recommending any business switch their landlines to VoIP service until they can guarantee QoS and an SLA to go along with it. netbuzz clearly has no idea what the business telecom world is like.

I worked for an HP tech support centre and we drew the line at "We only support whatever software and hardware came with the PC at the time of purchase." So if Dell were to preload OpenOffice, Firefox and VLC as some of the main components, then those are pieces of software Dell could support, along with the main core features/software that come with either KDE or Gnome (or Enlightenment if they felt so inclined). To provide support further than that would be to provide far more support than they, HP, Gateway, etc. offer for Windows.

If Microsoft truly thought they had the best product available on the market, they wouldn't need to issue threats like these. If Windows Vista was truly revolutionary, if Windows Server 2003 was in fact the best server software to load everything onto (web, database, file servers and so on) then they could comfortably sit back and watch while Linux distros raced around trying to show that their products were truly better, when in fact they weren't. Sadly for Microsoft, they are honestly started to lose marketshare (on a whole) and are beginning to freak out. That's why Steve Ballmer throws chairs, that's why they give gross discounts to governments who consider switching to open source software, that's why Microsoft tells Linux vendors to "respect their intellectual property" or risk being sued. And the reality is that Microsoft has a ridiculous amount of money, so they could bury many Linux/open source vendors with paper and simply watch that target close it's doors.
