now consider someone pollutes our food with this 'harmless' virus in minuscule quantities, then modifies flu to produce this key protein
giving that it is possible to infect large numbers of people with a lurking virus this way, it could be used as a tool to kill millions of people... am I wrong?
You cannot be infinitely cunning in developing new type of counter-weapons.
It is better to find more common goals. Best strategy to win is to make everyone want cooperate with you, because you have a desireable vision for the future of everyone.
If I write to my dear ones in China, I just avoid mentioning sensitive topics in my E-mail (even Gmail). If I want to tell it anyway, I tell it over a safer medium.
How to create a good computer Go player?

I never played or tried GO, but if Go has such a high level of possibilities, then it has to be possible to build various structures in it's space.
This means that in fact the game must be based NOT on evaluating all the move possibilities, but rather freely "moving" in the space, building and preventing the other player to build certain it's OBJECTS, and groups of objects.
Find out from the professional players about what type of objects they try to create and arrange, when playing a game.
A. Think of algorythms for creating these kind of objects effectively.
B. Think of methods to obstruct the creation of such kind of objects effectively.
Balance the A and B actions depending of the value of the identified objects in question.

Nice idea, Simon. I think, seriously, this could, and should be realized in some way.
So, this action should be viewed as a political one, and could be reacted to accordingly.
Today cooperation is more important than competition,
the winner is usually the one who finds a way to cooperate with most of the people,

Our laughter means Chinese government's definition of reincarnation is different from ours.
We think reincarnation is a "mystical belief that some essential part of a living being survives death to be reborn in a new body".
Chinese government perhaps thinks that reincarnation is an act of stating such a belief about a certain individual.
How does the Chinese government define reincarnation anyway?
Being a cosmopolitan and an internationalist without very clear identity, it is very useful and practical, since now I can say "we" with much more confidence.
In Gmail, you delete the messages, then use your Gmail as usual. If you remember something important, recover from Trash. This way it's easy to say "goodbye" for most of the unnecessary data.
The same works for HDDs, CDs, etc. For example, you clean a spare HDD, and make a copy only of the files that you actually opened. After 1 month has passed, distroyed all the other data. Leave only the new HDD.
Old news. My sharp V603SH, which I bought about 1 year ago does that. You can use it to play games such as golf with a virtual golf club, it has a step-counter for jogging. Oh, not only motion detector, it has an internal COMPASS too.
I find browsing it much more exciting than browsin Wikipedia, because most are very familiar to my eyes, yet I don't know them in detail. It's much more about the selection of articles than the multitude of them.
I can't wait until not just these, but also the production lines become opensource.
I wait until we have open source models of mobile phones, cars, computers, airplanes, and their production lines open source as well!
I just found out that my phone does what I need. It is small enough, music is easy to manage, memory is extendable by inserting a larger MMC card - all that I need.
I really don't have interest in sports for the same reasons.
The only thing that looked good about the olympics is the slogan of "1 World 1 Dream".

Yea, that what it sounds like from our perspective, interpreted through our definition of reincarnation.

I am for diversity, the directory names are already multilingual in many systems, therefore in making URls multilingual I see no trouble with usage.

Very easy.
It just provokes me to ask "What Islam is? Where does it come from?", and open the Wikipedia article about it.

I would say, this is nice news, just don't distort this. Let's take a look and see what comes out of that. I think it is unprecedented attempt.
That is why I love Wikipedia and GPL. Being secretive is not good. If Google wants to become good, it has to reduce secrecy over time.
Processors are getting fast, so, it looks like the processors which do not, relatively are getting slower over the time.

That is an informative post.
Agreed.
Yep, try to imagining me developing something similar to Google to serve my good purposes, and controlling it remotely.
It's 1000000$ stupidity or what? 10000 100$ laptops would certainly outperform it many times.
