    Big companies fear open source because it's a threat to their intellectual property. If a company uses an open source product, and that product (accidentally and unknowingly of course) infringes on one of their patents, then that company loses the ability to enforce their own patent in the future. Patents are the "mustard gas" of big companies. Everybody has them, and nobody uses them. But you better have them stockpiled, or somebody might use theirs against you. Some open source licenses rob companies of this line of defense. The hoops one has to jump through at a big company just to use Log4J are maddening.

    The above might apply to GPL-3; but no one who can read and think can honesty believe it about BSD License.

    I remember my older brother bringing in an half/part shotgun into wood working class to make an new wooden stock for it. Time frame mid 70s. I would guess now days this would result in jail time. Tim S.

    And some managers need to learn that coding takes time!!!! I was on a project where 98% of the time was design and Analysis and then I was supposed to code it in the few remaining days/hours. The waterfall model IS NOT valid for less than multi-year projects. Or at least incompetent can NOT use waterfall model. Tim S.

    Has Canada health care expense dropped from 2nd place in cost?

    The USA was number one in cost followed next by Canada about 10 to 20 years ago. In a report I did in school about 10 years ago. I recommended using the Germany health care system as I thought it would best be able adjust to the American Capitalistic System.
    But, since the USA is slowly changing from a Capitalistic System to Fascist System; maybe, it is even more proper to adopt the German system.

I think two lists are needed. List 1 the candidate must agree to 100% of items. List 2 the candidate must agree to 70% or more of items. I think the only Item needed on List 1 is this. Capitalism is better that Communism. No idea what should be on List 2; I say about 10 items would be the proper size. Tim S.

    Yeah, that is how the "Puppet Masters" starts story of an alien space ship crash. That is later reported as an hoax. The super secret spy agency sends in several agents and gets no word back from them. Then the area under alien controls expands.     Just to state the US view. It is believed that giving the vaccine to Health Care workers will reduce the number of patients who get the H1N1 Flu from the Health Care workers. Note: In the US is is not uncommon for workers to continue working while sick. I have no idea if this is true for other countries. Tim S.

    I very strongly agree.
    I just got vaccinated against whooping cough; because, I have a cough from asthma.
    And, my niece is having a new born next month and I wanted to be less likely that I would infect the new born at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

    IIRC, The US Post Office never went private! The US Government just told it to run as an separate unit of the Government that should break even. If it went private? Why does it still have an monopoly on first class mail? Tim S.

    So if intelligence is related to nutrition, why aren't cows (the fat blobs!) the most intelligent species on earth?

    If I understand the posts and summary, the greater intelligence of the human line results in eating cooked meat; therefore the digestive system changed and in some ways simplified because of the diet change. Cows (bovine) are plant eaters with a very complex digestive system.

    I think a reasonable conclusion is a species that uses fire to cook food reduces the need of complex digestive system in order to survive.
