Maybe Sands of Time was re-released with StarForce, but the original run (from November 2003) used SafeDisc.
I know this, as I am very careful not to install anything protected by StarForce on my computer. Soon I'm going to have a key wired up to the power on all of my drives. In one position both the "clean" HD and the optical drives get power. Turn the key and only the "sacrificial" HD is powered. This way I can run SF protected games and anything else shifty looking on the second drive with no worries.
QT 7 on Windows: There is no way to make it ignore the proxy you set for Windows. QT 6.x has a "Streaming Proxy" panel in which you could just uncheck all the boxes and be done with it.
Dr. F: Well Joel, we're introducing a new feature here today. Here's a hint: Remember "Lost Continent"? Remember "Rock Climbing"?
Frank: Oh who can ever forget "Rock Climbing", eh Clay? Well now, along the same lines we've come up with something new -- something we like to call: Sand Storm! SAND STORM!
Dr. F: It's all part of a new program we like to call:
By the time the ending rolled around I was prepared for just about anything. Considering the author (not to mention the copious foreshadowing) I saw no reason why the ending couldn't be absolutely pitch black.
So I don't feel cheated at all. I actually thought the ending was very fitting to the rambling and informal way that much of the story was written. It's the sort of ending you might expect from one of the original, un-sanitized "fairy tales".
So what? I'm always running into the upload cap on my cable. If I want to play some CS I have to pause one of the torrents I'm seeding to free up a little chunk of the 256kb. Download speed is never an issue. I would have to work at it to saturate 3Mb down.
A router that will automatically slow down the uploads (evenly) when I want to pwn some noobs is very appealing. It also means no more getting 20 minutes away from home before remembering that I forgot to start the torrent back up when I was done gaming.
I tried to switch from Quark 4 to InDesign CS early this year, but InDesign wasn't able to do what I needed. I DTP once a year and the project is always the same: A book consisting of landscape, double sided 8.5 x 11 pages. Four columns on a page, stitched in the middle. Nothing fancy.
But InDesign couldn't deal with this. IIRC, I was able to apply text flow in a Master but the flow wasn't there when I created a document using the Master. I found other people complaining about this on DTP forums and being told that it was a limitation of the program, so I gave up.
This is unfortunate, as I would really like to ditch Quark.
Provide me the scenario when multiple differing items can be grouped into one box.
The assumption is that the user wants a quick shipping quote for a single item and doesn't plan on ordering anything else -- yet!
Maybe on the side bar of the page, but under every item?
Every item you sell as a page, right? With specs and bulleted lists of features and advertising hype? On most sites the first thing on this page is the name of the item in big type followed by price, part number, catalog number and a photo. If you're going to have all that other stuff there, why not a quick S/H calculator? Add a one line disclaimer to the effect that the S/H indicated is only applicable if this is the only thing ordered.
An optimal shipping quote cannot be provided until the total weight of all the items you plan to purchase have been finalized.
Where is this written in stone? Why not be up front and transparant about shipping charges? Here's a radical idea: Put a field for zip code and a drop-down of shipping methods on every item page under the price. When someone enters their zip and selects UPS or Fedex it calculates shipping for that individual item. Put in another box for quantity and call it a day.
If people want S/H for a more-than-one-item order then make them dick around with shopping carts.
This is how you encourage impulse buys. Now if you'll excuse me I have some patent papers to fill out...
So were you trying to say that you think 4th edition is going to be like D&D?
Or did you mean that the ad makes 4th edition sound like its going to be similar to D&D?
I can't agree in either case. I also wouldn't think any worse of FanPro for trying to sell SR4 to the D&D crowd (in the ads of course, the game itself had better be pure SR). There is a huge D20-centric mentality in the RPG hobby that can make even well-established games like SR a hard sell (especially to the younger crowd who know nothing but D&D 3E).
Have you even played Shadowrun? It is nothing like D&D. There are no classes or levels and combat is much more deadly (just to name a few of the larger differences). If you want a new asshole try going to Dumpshock and making that "SR players enjoy it because it's like D&D" claim.
I use ABC on linux almost exclusively. It has a GUI and doesn't require a database (just Python). I typically leave ABC open and pulling down torrents for many months at a time and the only issue I've encountered is that one in 20 or 30 torrents has a tracker that requires a newer version of the client. In these (rare) cases I use Azureus.
I have found that the best way to go if you're even semi-serious about BT is to just dedicate a machine to it (I'm using an old 400Mhz Celeron). RAID a few good sized drives and install BNR if you have a decent usenet feed. Use VNC and run it headless.
"Those of us who have worked with Phil and known him so long maintain the position that he is innocent unless proven guilty"
That's not much an endorsement. Sure, the guy is a fire chief but does CYA really demand he take the position that the courts are infallable? He could have just said something vague about sympathy.
Remember a few years ago when all future hard drives were going to have DRM built into them? There was even an alliance of all the big hard drive manufacturers of the time.

Make it easier to disable flash temporarily so I can turn it off on those sites that abuse it.
Preferences Toolbar has a checkbox for disabling Flash, however it does this by renaming the plug-in files (something of a kludge).
Make a better interface for managing plug-ins and extensions. Let me enable/disable them and check for updates for them.
I've wanted this for a long time (see my sig).
Improve the download manager. Show the date/time something was downloaded, and let me sort by that field.
Yeah, they should also disable the ability to sort downloads by "Time Left" and "Speed" because this seems to just randomize the completed downloads.
My only addition to your list would be the ability to customize how Mozilla handles EMBED tags with particular emphasis on calls to Windows Media Player. Just because I can't remove WMP (without also disabling the MS codecs) doesn't mean I want it automatically loading when I visit web sites.

The Editing Room is the original site like this (and still the best).

Traffic shaping only affects UPSTREAM data.

If they take the Sellotape then you just set the building on fire.
Your radical ideas about Klingons have already occurred to others

The critics are saying that the romance was from Adams' script -- not an addition. I don't know their source, but they seem convinced.
Except that Chuck Barris is a real person who (AFAIK) still claims that "Confessions..." is largely factual.
It's not a hoax, it's not clever alternate-reality fiction. I believe the technical term is "crazy".
Just wait for the model that can monitor more than one headband at a time.

"Perfect for LAN Parties."
Yeah, because no LAN party is complete without public urination!
