    1. Buy American if possible.
    2. Buy non-union if possible.

Now, If an American company builds something in China, most of the money still comes to America (otherwise there is no reason to build it in China)*. I also don't agree with unions, so I try not to support them.
*This is also why I don't like to pay illegal aliens to do work for me. Not that I don't like them, but most of their money goes to support another country.

I have read many of the replies and one thing I have not seen anyone pick up on is that your going to be in a dual role. I found myself in that exact situation 2 months ago. It is not easy. Putting the management BS aside, and trust me there is way too much of that, 2 roles will kill you.
Here is my average day now.
6:00-700 AM - log in from home to check up on everything from last night (global company). Answer questions from the tech's and other managers.
8:00 AMGo into the office and make sure everyone remembers to do the tasks assigned to them.
8:00 AM-12:00 PM - Meetings (all damn day long)
12:00-1:30 PM - Listen to lies on why people arn't getting their work done.
1:30 - Sneak in a little lunch, if possible
    2:00-5:00 PM - Meetings
5:30-6:00 - Start to work on my own work.
7:30 PM- Call my wife to let her know I am on my way home.
8:30 PM - Leave for home.

I told them I would only do this for so long. Many times it is much better to have a person as a manger, and a tech as a tech. I will promise one thing, you will have a better sense of what a good manager can do. They are like the computer support, if they do their job good, you never hear from them and begin to think it is a very easy job and one that is not really needed.

I don't understand this! You are still supporting the system you hate. You are still putting money in the hands of the RIAA. How? Funny you should ask. People are more likely to go buy a CD to try it out if they know they can sell it later to recoup so of the lose. Stop buying used CD's and that market will fail and then people will be stuck with what they have or have to give it away.
Plus, this is somewhat like the MS outlook of "Yes, it is pirated, but it is still ours and not our competitors".
