I have a question for any KDE developers/junkies out there. What are the advantages of porting KDE to QT 3.0? How will it affect the end user? Thanks.

First I have to say that I am such a HUGE fan of KDE and am ever appreciative of the quality software that their team puts out.
Unfortunately, it's been my experience that on Red Hat systems, KDE is impossible to upgrade. I'm not an expert linux user by any means, but I feel comfortable with most aspects of my system. None the less, when installing KDE I seem to find myself deep within the trenches of rpm-hell. Most replies to people with similiar afflictions seem to say, "well, find all the dependancies, it'll be good for you." However, after 50 or so.rpm's, and a seemingly ever-growing list, I gave up. Can you blame me?
Nice to see public schools moving towards a non-proprietary alternative to current software. Of course the reason for this now is budgetary concerns, but I can see a greater result--increased computer literacy.
From what I can tell, this isn't a public school. Ridgeview "Classical" has a Mission Statement,.com address [www.ridgeviewclassical.com], and a fairly strict Dress Code (warning, excel spread sheet), which includes "clean, neat, traditionally styled hair" with no wild colors, and shirts without any visible collarbone or logos of any kind.
As a side note, their website appeare to be running on Solaris 2.6 or 2.7.
"Who could have foreseen something like this happening," said Elwood Edwards. "Years ago my wife worked at AOL and asked me to record the greetings for the company. Now, as I think about the millions of AOL members who consider me as the 'mailman' of cyberspace, I'm amazed. I'm pleased that I've had a small part in making the computer world smaller and more personable."
Edwards has recently started his own business doing voice-overs for commercial and business broadcasts, radio and television. More information about Elwood Edwards and his voice-over services can be found at his Website:
"An AI is only a clever simulation of consciousness. In the end, it's nothing more than a collection of biomechanical parts governed by a complex set of instructions."
So are you.
How can we claim an AI is a person, with a mind, personality, and a life? In a ground-breaking series of experiments in the early 2120's, A.I.T. researcher Adriana Dick told over a hundred high-functioning Cybertronics robots that they were humans suffering from amnesia. They were then released into the world, where days, weeks, or in several cases months went by without human observers or the robots themselves realizing they were not human.
When finally confronted with the truth, most of the robots suffered personality breakdowns; they were then placed under the care of psychiatrists who also could not distinguish them from human. Several of the robots were prescribed psychoactive medicine to combat their delusions that they were robots! The results of this study have largely been suppressed and ignored, but the truth lives on.
If modern robots were not programmed to know they were machines, neither they nor we would think of them as anything but human.
uproar.com has been using interruption based ads in the games for a long time now. You play a round of Family Feud, and then wait two minutes for the next game to start.
I dont understand, as soon as I read this article I tried logging on to Napster and check things out. After having to close the "Napster Action Network" (read: save our company for us) popup, I was downloading Metallica in seconds. I don't see any filter in effect... is it just me?
That's an astonishingly generous offer, Elaine. Thank-you.
I thought perhaps I should take the opportunity to explain the nature of -- and reason for -- the rush.
YAS has not been able to accept donations for this project until its tax status was confirmed. But my department at Monash University has now gone into the planning phase for next year, and needs to know within the next week or two whether they'll have my teaching/admin services for 2001 (which they most decidedly won't if the Perl community wants me).
So my department needs a clear indication of what I'm doing next year, which means YAS needs a clear indication of whether the community thinks "buying me out" is a worthwhile thing, and something they would actually fund (I'm not nearly egoistical enough to simply assume that the weird stuff I do is worth real money:-)
That's what's required by next week: pledges of support. Actual cash could come (a little) later.
Meanwhile, I've already been overwhelmed by the support that people have privately expressed for this. Whether or not the project comes together, I am deeply honoured and grateful that so many people seem to believe I would be worth "buying".
Thats what user preferences is for. If you don't want comedy pieces, filter them out. You wont even know they're there.

What is the last movie you went to? How did you hear about it?
I was thinking about picking out a laptop as my new firewall, I guess the Dell Inspiron 5000 is the one for me!

I think your sig sums up the state of slashdot pretty well..

Their camera can handle up to 1000 frames per second, now lets see if their web site can handle 1000 hits per second.

If Nintentdo is trying to mature their image, mabye they should consider porting such PC classics as Leisure Suit Larry to their Gameboy Advance.

You can get the source by running the installation executable.
Offspring is apparently gonna offer a song off their website soon.
I think its funny that the two (live) songs The Offspring currently have available are in RealAudio format, the anti-mp3.
