That was an excellent post, so I don't mean to troll by asking if you meant the Highland Clearances which occured after the second Jacobite uprising rather than the first? Some of the other points had me off to Wikipedia for some excellent info...cheers:)
It was okay back in the day when comments worked and it wasn't having to block half of its users. But yes, I'd have thought the whole "doesn't exist" thing would have just let the whole thing go away.
Let the MPAA flog the dead Torrentspy horse. There's plenty more where it came from.
What you say is true, but only for a period - it's fair to say that after a few years any costs that would have been recovered have been, however prices don't tend to drop for older CDs the way they do for older DVDs. Sgt Pepper is seldom below AUD$25 and I'm fairly certain it made its production costs back quite a few years ago, expensive as it may have been.
Much like the Guild of Firefighters, who used to wander around people's houses remarking about how flammable it was and what a pity it would be if it happened to burn down...;)
I'm curious to see how things go once games released on consoles and PC are able to play online against each other rather than solely PC with PC/Xbox with Xbox etc.
I'd be willing to bet that FPS games would suddenly get a whole lot of sales for the PC once keyboard & mouse players start headshooting gamepad players...
Yeah, Diablo's storyline isn't anything mindbogglingly original, but it still could make an entertaining film. I always thought it was better than a lot of stories attached to point & click games, as the game itself is so straightfoward that there's very little roleplaying involved, and it needed something beside being a quick way to break your mouse;)
Absolutely, but seeing as tech policy seems to be heavily influenced by that in the US, it's certainly a help if American's tell their legislators to GTFO.
Guns only seem to be something to care about in the US...
Speaking as an Australian, it didn't make that much difference when most guns were banned following the Port Arthur shootings. Semi-automatics & shotguns were generally banned, and it was mainly people in rural areas (farmers etc) who had these for pest control. Gun violence in Australia makes the news in a big way because it's so uncommon - more often than not it's between underworld figures/biker gangs etc than against civilians.
So please don't try to use something as important as proposed universal wiretapping to push a pro-gun agenda on the other side of the world, because over here one is an important fight for civil liberties and the other is ancient history that was supported by most Australians.
Having said that, please do fight for your rights over in the US, because most Australian politicians seem to have a monkey see, monkey do approach to policy and if Americans stand up against wiretapping etc, then there might be less chance of legislation allowing it being enacted here.
Or disband all parties and have everyone represent the electorate they come from. Sure, it'd probably take years to get anything done, but at least there might be an end to the enforced left/right groupthink that seems to infect governments nowadays. Disclaimer - not an American, so have no idea if your political system has local electorates in Federal goverment.
And if he wins, does that mean he can sue Lucas again for copyright infringment in episodes II & III? That clone armour seems to be a derivative work, even if it was retconned into the franchise:)
Down my way, authorities are up in arms about WoW, labelling it "a training ground for goblin killing" and bemoaning the way it teaches gamers that repetitive work earns currency. Only Jack Thompson can save us now.
Agreed. I've noticed that the quality of mainstream journalism seems to be decreasing fast, as they regurgitate whatever someone else has already written without factchecking, or else just lack basic grammar and writing skills.
As for the democratisation of journalism with blogging et al, that's a bit of a joke anyway. The majority of blogging regarding news is either voicing opinion without analysis or else just posting links to other people's writing. When bloggers do get it right, such as exposing lies or errors in major news stories, it unfortunately doesn't get reported much in mainstream media.
Don't get me wrong, I am in favour of being able to have a voice, it's just that the insightful blogs often don't get heard, or else get ignored because some vacuous celeb just got a boob job.
Maybe Jack should start praying to Kratos then...there's a god who'd tear a few limbs from the ESA :)
But Christianity also takes a large chunk of Judaism to make the Old Testament, which does go back several thousand years.

No, they'd probably just set up more cameras to watch the existing cameras.
They were sued by the Canadian version of the RIAA, so it's not really crossing the border...glad they're back though.
If only there was a place to host torrent sites where US Court judgements don't apply!
;)
Oh well. I can dream, can't I?

And as he also said, "Gun's don't kill people, people kill people.......but I think the gun helps"

Check out this one from The IT Crowd. Unsure whether it's prophetic of things to come, or just funny ;)

He's a blogger. Surely you've seen him flying around?
Dr No will fish them out of the water and pass the rockets on to SMERSH....I don't like the sound of that!

Ah, yes I do. Too long out of high school maths class :)
Well, they did, more or less, but those pesky mathematicians shot it down. Damn them and their irregular ways!
Large market share != monopoly
True, that's how Julius Caesar first beat the Britons
