Bacteria are fairly low maintenance - so the risk form attack is low as they can mutate to defend against the invasion. However as long as you keep feeding them the right stuff they will continuously optimise for the task:) (although depending on their metabolism they may see the production of hydrogen as inefficient way of reproducing themselves and switch to a different by-product that works faster)
Maybe there is something in that - perhaps what they should be doing is slowly evolving a system - rather then trying to revolutionise it with every release. Although I guess it would be harder to justify having to spend money on purchasing an improved rather than new version...
I think "playing dumb" at this incident is a bit much, even for the Chinese - to me it sounds a bit like they are mocking the Americans with that explanation.
That was the attitude at the time. For all his modern thinking Franklin was not above cynically dismissing the natives rights to fight for their lands. He actually states in the letter that they should have come forward to the authorities with their grievances before attacking and that they would have addressed any legitimate issue they had. Yeah right.
Actually the liberty part refers to living where you want (i.e. on the frontier) - temporary safety was the inclination to move back to the safety of larger cities and abandoning new settlements that were being raided by the Indians. The letter was calling on the government to help fund the weapons with which the settlers could protect themselves, given that it was uneconomical for government troops to protect the frontier.
So the letter wasn't a "diatribe against blind, stupid pacifism" but against government putting up red tape to avoid having to spend money for the protection of settlers.
I agree with you, while the numerous studies have shown cognitive dissonance in humans - if all they have to prove it in monkeys is that study then they are not on solid ground. Having said that I do think that its highly likely that monkeys do use this process, simply because they share a lot of other behaviours with us as well.
Not to mention that business of helping national security by outing a CIA Spy to the world. I think the democrats are complete cowards for not willing to do anything with "risk". Trying to run a government while being risk averse is like trying to run an train without an engine - a recipe for getting nothing done.
Here is a radical concept. Stop treating children like animals and start treating them like human beings. Letting kids go off the "leash" is necessary for them to become responsible people. How can they learn to be trustworthy if they are never trusted in the first place?
Not only that but you are essentially teaching children that there is nothing wrong with being tracked wherever you go - and that can only mean that they grow up to be people who will consent to draconian surveillance schemes because they are used to them.
Generally ESL people are usually the grammar nazi's as they actually spent time learning all the rules and it annoys them that native speakers just go commando.
I think you misunderstand the role of activist organisations. They stir up the media so as to put pressure on companies and governments to do more for the environment.
Your claim that greenpeace does nothing to help businesses develop cleaner technology is outright wrong - The greenpeace think-tank does just that with the aim to cause as least disruption to normal practices.
Check out their wikipedia page to get a full grasp of what they do.
This might seem like a huge cognitive jump but large corporations usually cause large amounts of pollution. This is bad for the environment hence greenpeace is involved.
As for the "Anti-business bias" - they are an activist group for god's sake not a centrist party! Their aim is not to balance economies but to raise awareness of a single issue - the environment and nothing else!
Greenpeace is about the environment - you can argue about the effectiveness of their actions but to say its a cover for something else is tinfoil-hat-esque.
You mean Nixon as in the guy who thought that as president he was above the law and had similar status to a monarch? (His actual argument in the high court as to why he shouldn't have to hand over tapes recorded in the white house)
At least with Nixon his attitude caused a severe backlash that ensured more oversight for years to come - something that doesn't seem like it will happen with Bush.

Thanks ok - they just wire together a whole bunch or researchers to make that go faster.

I thought true freedom came only when you had nothing to tie you down?
A pity-party you say?
Will there be cake?

Its more of a boiling chemical explosion with capacitors then an incendiary. In either case hot stuff on lap != good.
Nominate the article for deletion then :P
I guess all the data requiring a 11 or 10 will have to be scrapped :(
Spatial reasoning is separate from mathematical/logical reasoning. Plus maths is not required for practical geometry or navigation.
Excellent, my stocks in testosterone laced leather froo-froos are going to go thru the roof!
Its not a truck, its a series of tubes.

Well they first release a series of "green" soylent products.

You could use it to get away with crimes... after all nothing sticks to Teflon.
Yes - 1's should always appear after the exclamation mark not in the middle.
