Unfortunately, yeah. Atkinson, the aforementioned AG lives in an absolute backwater shit hole, who will continue to vote him in for a long time. He has a stupidly high approval rating in his electorate, with a safety margin of around 15-20% (Don't quote me on that one, not entirely certain). The vast majority of Australians really do want a harmonised rating system, but one little inbred shit hole has decided otherwise.
Good point here - but some if this is to do with what the user is used to. OO and MS Office 2003 are about on par for me in terms of UI, but I cannot stand 2007 though. I think the same will go for allot of users who grew up/started using the more orthodox 9x-03 interface - lets hope Adobe shoots itself in the foot like that;p. Howevr, the Photoshop point remains valid, all the photoshop users I know can't stand gimp, but the inverse is true for gimp users (speaking as one of them). Essentially, as OSS applications begin to gain significant minority usage, this will become less of a problem.
Due to the cost of labour - even with reduced/eliminated corporate taxes - it is unlikely any major manufacturers would look to the U.S as a viable option. However, that is not to say it would not help save existing production/factories. What corporate tax cuts would certainly help is job security. Without payroll tax, employees are suddenly much, much less expensive to keep. This is far more effective then bailouts, as it means employees are no longer viewed as such great liabilities whereas bailouts simply don't allow the companies to learn from their mistakes; subsidizing them will only reinforce poor business models, as will protectionism.
That vote also goes towards pricing games so high at launch. If less people bought games that were overpriced, the industry would start to pay attention - particularly if Steam sales started to skyrocket as broadband becomes cheaper.
I gotta agree with you here - It talks about the install speed, and then it's said the areas that are actually competitive are bits that most users don't care about. How many windows users actually install the OS themselves? And does install time really matter - after all, its a one-off thing... unless windows shits itself...which it usually does...
"Video games may be "fairly inexpensive as far as luxuries go""...
Unless you live in Australia...
$120 might not even buy you a whole game when it's brand new, infact $120 has become the defacto release price for new games. Sure - when you balance it out, its only about $80-90 USD - but when your often paying for a game that has less content then if it where bought in another region (Fallout 3, Dark sector, GTA 4 etc.) and at a price which only a desperate audience would pay...
As you said - $120 (well - for equivalent, $240) is pretty extravagant - so I completely agree with the parents argument, which is only reinforced as the prices are driven higher - whether by a slipping economy or regional pricing.
Wow... quoting from parent's link, "The biggest fish caught by OFT was another Gold Coast loan shark, Timothy John Ward and his company Shark Financial Services Pty Ltd.".... I am amazed anyone would borrow money from a company with a name like that, or that any loan shark would set up a company with such a blatant name...
I don't know about MacBooks, but have to use an iMac/MacPro in school for film classes (Final Cut etc). I detest them. Photoshop is essentially useless - crashes on saving half the time - not to mention the HORRENDOUS "Mighty Mouse" which, even when cranked up to the highest sensitivity, take hours to move across the screen. Due to it's over obsession with trying to look slick, half the applications feel under featured when compared to their Windows or Linux alternatives. For a machine that prides itself on being unbreakable, it sure has a lot of problems with application crashes.../rant
I have to agree that it wont be much cleaner considering Australia's power supply. However, as the largest exporter of uranium in the world, it's not like we can't shift some power over to nuclear. Just gonna have to get the Green's to shut up for a few seconds about nuclear waste killing their precious sandalwood trees...

There was never any real plan to consider any technical details; Labor was in it to look better than the Liberal's (And for Non-Australians, they are the Conservative party in Australia - false positive for ya). It basically lumps in a bunch of bullshit "Facts" at the start, then rants on about how this waste-of-taxpayers money will some how be better/more effective then the previous.
Some of this stuff is golden:
"Computer addiction can also cause such things as anti-social behaviour or, if associated with pay per play online gaming, may also have a financial impact." A $180 Million financial impact though?
It dosen't take long to get a good measure of the creators personalities.

My favorite was "USAF Adventurea". Wait, no, I actually much preferred "Terrorist Response Team"
Can't you see that WiFi signals are bad for all of us?
WiFi was actually created by the Ultra-Evil lord Cheenu 100 Billion years ago to suppress the "WiTans" - the evil beings that inhabit all of us creating misery war and famine on earth. Quickly! Grab the nearest hard object and take to the streets! WiFi must end. (This is what Wiologists actually believe)
Perhaps The Music Industry/MTV should start to sell/produce/display half decent music. I have heard Akon say how sorry he is enough now mmkay? Also, maybe rather then pulling off legal maneuverer's that show they have the marketing aptitude of a goldfish, how about working with the consumer for once? This isn't the year music died, it's the year where the public realized the industry sucks horrendously
Oh shit... Doesn't sound to bad right... I mean we don't have to buy the games right... Then you remember that EB Games will soon be polluted up with 50 Cent games... And 50 Cent games will attract.... 12 year old suburban kids wearing basketball singlets that are 10 sizes to large for them. All while they're overpriced Walkman phones pump out shit into the airwaves. Is this what you want in your favorite game store?

Wonder how long Krudd will keep this up before he realizes how huge a task censoring the internet would be. Also, could they block proxies without raising questions on how that affects the publics right to animosity

Quite a while back from now, I took a look at the feature list. There was a _lot_ more then Paintball mode in the pipe.
Only $20 Billion... We should get Bill to pay for this!

Damn, beat me to the chase on the Nuclear issue. What part of Brisbane? Over here in Coorparoo we don't usually have to many blackouts...
