Nevertheless this is not actually freedom -- it would be freedom if they were just as comfortable if they did not share the same values, and my experience shows that a person with different background feels extremely uncomfortable and oppressed here.
Perhaps the language barrier is an issue. "Freedom" does not equate with "Comfort" in English, although many people feel uncomfortable when their freedoms are limited. Individual discomfort/comfort levels can be effects of lesser or greater freedom, but are not the metric of freedom. I am uncomfortable on a hot, humid day but do not suffer any loss of freedom.
Freedom is more like "the ability to act without restriction". In the political context, "restrictions" usually mean "restrictions imposed and enforced by the government". It is granted that people, and cultures, differ on the importance/priority placed on different freedoms, like speech, press, assembly, weapon ownership, representation in government, et al. A significant difference between the USSR and the US was that the government (not culture) enforced restrictions of, what we Americans consider, the most important/fundamental freedoms.
Not that I'm saying the West is as bad as China. I don't think that at all.
I'm sorry, did you just make a parallel between nationwide censorship of government brutality and an electedschool board mandating partisan bias in a high schoolsocial studies curriculum?!?
You forgot the über-cynic: "Every decision Google makes is about maximizing shareholder profit because they're evil money-grubbing capitalists trying to destroy society!"
Great response, c64_love. Here's the specific quote from Jefferson about the 10th Amendment:
I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground: That " all powers not delegated to the United States, by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States or to the people." To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition.
That's why I never liked the "Free, as in beer" label. It's more like:
Windows: Paying for Bud/Miller/Coors Light
OS X: Being given, at no extra charge, a frosty, draft micro-brew, poured for you in a set of premium beer steins you severely overpaid for. (Refills are kinda pricey, too)
Linux: Being given a sack of barley, a dizzying array of hops, some yeast, and water. Derision from self-taught master brewers comes at no extra charge.
The economic principles of the reform bill are sound. If they go bad, it'll be due to human nature.
Yeah! Wait - what?! Economic principles that don't take into account human nature can be considered sound?! Well, that's good news for this new Grand Unified Theory I've been working on - if it fails it'll be due to the nature of energy (which I didn't include into my calculations, as it would've screwed up my theory). The principles are sound, though.
I am very happy that they have awarded the price only to him, although he did meet the requirement that the proof should be published in a peer-reviewed journal. I am very happy that they did not included those two Chinese guys who did write down the proof (about 260 pages) and claimed that they had proven the conjecture. Perelman was very upset by this especially that other mathematics did not raise their voice. I hope that Perelman will accept the price. He said (some years ago) that he would only decide when the offer was made, if he would except the price or not.
So, you're saying that for Perelman, The Prize is Right?
To be fair, the parent might have been worried about these three words: GuillermodelToro. Nothing conclusive, but it's not like del Toro as writer means "guaranteed top quality dialogue".
Are you kidding?! A giant, primal, jovial "skin-changer" is on-screen gold. Plus the giant bees, plus dogs/ponies/horses performing human domestic tasks. Plus his integral role in the climax of the Battle of Five Armies. Bombadil (and the Barrow-wights encounter) was easier to drop because he really was unessential the primary story of the Lord of the Rings, although he did add great depth and mystery to the world.
I also believe that Beorn and Radagast will make great side/supporting characters for the sequel (what Hollywood fantasy movie doesn't want more wizards/magic?).
Or, since the question was about DRM, you could just purchase it legally, and then use the DRM-free version to save backups, transfer between devices, do-whatever-you-want-that-the-DRM-would-normally-prevent. But, no, wait - now that I think about it I like the idea of accusing everyone who doesn't consume content in the same manner as yourself of being thieves. That's much more productive. Bravo, to you, sir! You truly are a credit to geeks everywhere!
Oh, and in both cases, we have just the products and the consulting teams to help you achieve a synergistic paradigm shift to streamline your enterprise and facilitate a win-win situation with end-to-end empowerment for your core team.
I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Are we in agreeance that you would bring to the table an outside-the-box, integrated solution that would allow us to recontextualize our monetization of the Cloud?
On top of that, Apple will be including DRM on some eBooks and other iPad content.
Oh, that's fantastic! You mean the Linux versions will offer the same books without DRM?
Yes, it's a revolutionary new product called BitTorrent, paired with a service called The Pirate Bay. It's pretty new, so it's not unusual that you haven't heard of it. Unfortunately, no such app exists for the iPhad/iPone
I've been waiting for a slate media-consumption device like this for YEARS and someone is shipping one next month, that someone happens to be Apple.
Fixed that for you - unless you have some secret evidence that you will be able to perform any desktop-level/laptop-level computing activities on this that you can't perform on any smartphone, or any of the currently available Archos tablets. Also, were you never aware of the Compaq TC1100?
* Fetus != baby. We have different words because they are different things. Meaningful communication relies on shared meanings of words. Changing definitions to suit your argument isn't convincing, it's confusing.
I know, right? Whenever I talk with a pregnant friend or family member, I always have to defend this point. She'll be all, "Oooh, the baby is kicking", and I'll be all, "It's called a fetus, you stupid bitch! Learn to use the right word!". Then she'll be all, "WTF, it's a boy, and we decided to call him James, why are you calling him a fetus?!". And I'll be like, "You, and the hundreds of millions like you, for thousands of years now, have been ruining language. Stop it, you whore!". Then she starts crying, and I assume it's because she has finally realized the extent of the damage she has caused in abusing the language in such a manner.
Why does everything have to be racial for you?! ... "by RaceProUK (1137575)"...oh, I see, I didn't realize that was a profession across the pond. My bad.
...Under both Clinton and Bush the debt "only" increased ~5 trillion per year (from 1993 to 2000 and 2001 to 2008). Under Obama's existing and projected budget, the debt increased by about $25 trillion during 2009, $15 trillion in 2010, and $10 trillion for the years 2011, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.... Bush added about 40 trillion while Obama's projecting 80-90 trillion by 2016.
You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
I'm very much against runaway stimulus spending, as well, but you seem to be off by more than an order of magnitude.
we developers are going to ignore their standards. its simple as that.
Bravo! Well said! In support of this stance, I'll be happy to take care of any of your clients that are foolish enough to want their websites to look and function similarly across all major browsers. Viva la revolucion!
I also bought a HTC Magic from them and feel like suing them right now.
Dear Sir,
We applaud your noble sentiments, and encourage any and all litigation for any offenses, real or imagined. We assure you that, with the proper degree of zeal, any country, can be transformed into an environment that encourages the unbridled growth of our industry.
Sincerely,

Valve has a cannon of some of the best FPSs the PC has to offer.
Mortar the point, if this bombardment of quality titles has as explosive an impact in the industry as some here are predicting, then Valve will already be firmly entrenched in the market by the time other developers see howitzearning's skyrocketed.

Does it matter? Chinese outnumber Americans 4 to 1...
4 girls to each guy? Sounds like a good ratio!
Something tells me you don't have a firm grasp on the demographic consequences of China's One Child Policy...
