This Thinkpad T60 I'm typing IS better build quality than any Mac, and it's cheaper. Don't just compare Macs to shitty Dells.
(When i say Windows in this post, i mean XP of course)
There's not much else content in your post than that, but the reason that you get more Windows users asking for help is because, 1, it's much less idiot-proof. It's very easy to get a Windows system into an unusable state. You're stupid if you do, but there's lots of stupid people. 2, there are SO many more Windows users than Macs so of course it is expected that you will get more Windows users asking questions. did this point elude you? 3, Windows users tend not to be as aware and proficient with computers. obvious point, i guess, why the fuck else would Mac users be Mac users? 4, maybe your friends with Macs know {or think} you don't have one or know how to use Macs?
now, at college i see quite a few people sporting new Macbooks. Half these people don't know most of the functions. Just as clueless as they were with Windows. it makes me wonder why they buy one in the first place?
i've never fucked up a Windows installation, ever. not much on my part either. don't run anti-virus software (or let it scan files as they come in rather), run spyware once a month, use firefox not IE, don't download weird shit. defrag and cleanup once a month. i can't take arguments about security and viruses seriously, because i've just never experienced it. either i'm incredibly lucky or these arguments are suspect..
in my experience with macs they're roughly as fast as Windows, faster by any measurable difference. and as you said, they're designed for "regular people", so any modern computer will be adequate for their needs.
i also find the Mac UI annoying and distracting. much less useable, but better eye-candy i guess.
i would say more applications for Windows, but I don't think that's a relevant point any more.
you sounded like a fanboy because you said the DRM was so "unacceptable" that XP would always be better. that implies the DRM in Vista is pervasive and makes operating the computer difficult, when in fact it only affects the HDMI thing...
there's still too many unbearable quirks overall in the system. a lot of things, you never get working completely right, and everyone that uses linux experiences this. i decided to stop using gutsy (or linux for that matter) when i set my printer up a couple weeks ago, printed 40+ sheets, turned it on a week later with it plugged in and never moved, and it didn't work. that would never (and has never) happened to me in windows.
you're misunderstanding his point, or you don't want to quit because he sounds "elitist" to you. but he's merely trying to say that, given the limited time he has to play video games (or wants to), that he chooses to use it on computers because that's what's easiest and that's what he enjoys most. he's not staying away from consoles purposely...
i'm pretty sure he was just using KDE vs. Windows or whatever as an example of something that people say "could catch on!" but almost definitely never will. kinda funny how oblivious this is to you...
i don't necessarily mean bugs but better-designed UI, if you see a person is searching a while for a single function to make it more apparent, things like that. testing something like that across multiple products would be a lot of beta testing...
I don't see the issue here. No question of privacy really, people can choose to do this or not, and it's openly the catch. Microsoft probably wants to watch people's use of it to see what people have trouble with and what they can improve..
i think you're being too dramatic. instead of trying to figure out why people are selling their wiis, think about these questions:
why do we live in a society where other people are judging your actions constantly?
(i'm well aware i just said you're too dramatic, and no that's not an insightful thing to point out).
why don't you sell your old shit sitting on shelves around you?
why are you analyzing a situation and then drawing crazy conclusions from it? the fact that people are selling wiis means nothing about "society". why would you expect people to treat a wii as anything else, just because you think it's sacred because it's "gaming"? get your head out of your ass.
that's not true. he didn't tank the voiceover, he's stated himself his narration was just bad because he didn't know what he was reading, or how it fit into the movie.
a couple years ago i bought a iriver fp790 ( i think that's what it was called). great quality, battery life, and of course played ogg. it's 256mb and was about 100 bills, so maybe you should check for something in that lin (i don't know if they still offer ogg-players).
what a stupid point to make. we're comparing them to humans because, until this study was done, dogs have never been known to be able to do this. if there was a study showing humans being able to sniff assholes, then it would be "dog-like thought."
that's definitely the crux of the issue here. my logic is inclined to say no, but my ears would never want to hear something from a robot. unless, of course, i had no idea it was such...
you know, i cringed when i read "ron paul" in the subject title, because i knew people would start giving their very exaggerated, very uninformed, superficial analysis of his beliefs.
i don't see why it should matter to anyone that he doesn't have as many supporters as other candidates. that's a mob mentality, and seeing that, especially from slashdotters, is pretty disheartening. it should also be irrelevant who his supporters are, or how annoying you personally find them. what about his policies??? it's very easy to say things like "markets need regulation" or to call him whacky, unrealistic, or that he won't implement be able to get things passed. can anyone provide a more in-depth analysis of his beliefs? if you don't agree with him, i don't give a shit, but at least provide some reasons for it. right now the level of discourse is about as high as what i would get on the o'reilly factor.
The PC gaming market will never be destroyed because of the lack of licensing fees. If it really comes down to it like you're predicting, then the PC will lose most commercial games but will strengthen all the indie and FOSS development, who are already coming out with great games (especially FPSs).
I liked eMusic when you could download an unlimited amount. I could get about three albums a day, and this was on a 56k modem (that's how long ago they had that pricing scheme).
I don't think Windows is really intended to automatically configure things like sound cards, wireless, video, etc. At least that's been my experience with every XP install I've done.
do they run on Linux?
Nothing should happen to this couple.
i don't have testicles, you insensitive clod!

calling it a predecessor kind of broke the satire, don't ya think?
that's not a bad idea. i think i just might get HP to install my next distro!
sucks calling out the guy who actually went to africa, huh?

i agree, i never liked the default look of kde. too glossy, metallic and blue. i suspect that's why lots of people shy away from it.

I wonder why you took his joke literally you humorless ass
