so far on the 360.
I've played through twice. Once on medium and the other time on easy (got to score those achievements). I think I have 910/1000 achievements and I'll have the last few tape recorders the next time I fire it up.
The technology behind the game and the art direction combine to create one of the most atmospheric and engrossing environments of any game I've played. Rapture is as real to me as Black Mesa and City 17 ever were.
The gameplay is fantastic with great combat and several ingenious gimmicks such as hacking and tonic finding.
I highly recommend this game...its a treat for the senses and is fun to play. Certainly lived up to the hype for myself.
I just purchased a notebook the other day after pricing them out for a week. The notebook I got from dell cost me $1100 with coupons. A Macbook Pro with IDENTICAL specs came out to a little over $2000.
I'm sorry but looking trendy isn't worth an additional $900.
Not really seeing as I own both Vista and XP and I have a DX10 capable card.
There are many "twitch" and "non-twitch" games that only came out for Windows. I see no reason to emulate them when I can just play them on the OS they were intended for and use the dev tools that came with them that don't run under linux or emulation (as far as I know).
Linux is not a gaming platform nor does it pretend to be. People can knock Microsoft all they want but they've been very successfull at establishing Windows as the Operating System for gamers.
The day I can run Steam and play HL2 in Ubuntu natively I'll gladly switch over but until then there's very little reason to go from the best gaming operating system to something whos only merit is based in principle and spirit.
(goes back to playing 360...another great gaming product from that evil corporation)
Skip to Linux? Doesn't sound to me like you're a gamer then which is interesting in a thread about gaming.
Linux is great and all but doesn't hold a candle to Windows for gaming. Linux is just not a realistic choice for people like myself who own countless games that were never ported outside of Windows.
I just ordered a Dell Vostro 1500. My previous notebook was also a Dell and I was mailed a new battery as a part of a recall. I was under the impression that the problem had been addressed but now I'm concerned that I might have to wear a bomb proof suit while reading Slashdot from the comfort of my patio;)
But not a necessary tool..."Depth of Field" is only now becoming a reality in 3D gaming yet for over a decade gamers have had no problems immersing themselves into the 3D world and knowing what to focus on.
I look forward to seeing the trailer for this...I think the Wachowski brothers can really pull this off.
while Carmack was working on IDTech5!!
Carmack is too valuable to the gaming industry for him to be involved in such potentially dangerous hobbies. Now that Epic is tied up with the backlash against Unreal 3 this is id's opportunity to become the engine of choice again.
Put down the rockets John and go back to the keyboard where it's safe!!!
On a more serious note I'm glad to hear that noone was hurt.
...move back to XP. I still use XP on all of my machines despite having Vista licenses through my MSDN subscription. It works amazingly well, its stable and gaming is much better on it despite what MS claims.
My two cents
This was an idea I had a long time ago (I'm not professing to have invented the idea). I think people who intentionally harm their body should be penalized and health conscious individuals such as myself shouldn't be forced to subsidize and ultimately condone their lifestyle.
Obviously congenital and hereditary health issues should be treated and not penalized in anyway but if you smoke, use meth, choose not to exercise or do anything else that is obviously detrimental to your health then you should not impact the premiums of other individuals.
This is one of the reasons I'm against national healthcare. Why should I pay for others to abuse their body?
My two cents!
I just wish Apple would focus on what people want and need not what looks cool.
Physical media is here to stay for a while. Until everyone has fiber optic connections and terrabytes of storage space we're gonna continue investing in DVDs or in my case HDDVDs and BluRay because theres no way I can stream 1080p and I certainly can't store that many on my 300 gig hard drive. Thats like 6 BluRay movies and I already own more than that.
I actually retract what I said...it would seem that in a vaccuum the body would have a hard time loosing heat since their is no medium with which to interact.
Your point is duly noted...I stand corrected!;)
The temperature of the person in the vaccuum. A vaccuum in space will have far less radiation in it than say a vaccuum in a research lab. Therefore the NASA tech would not be subjected to the same harsh conditions if they were freely floating in space.
Hence why the astronauts in Sunshine wrapped themselves before exiting the spacecraft.
...this quote.
"There are some people who still want to make DVDs"
I guess these's a fringe movement of people who want to cater to the 100 million or so DVD players out there!;)
Someone tell these people that DVD is soooooooooooo last year!
Other than that everything looked pretty solid.
What was the temperature when that NASA tech was exposed?
I would imagine in space the extreme temperature would have adverse effects on the eyes and skin.
The day Nintendo includes a keyboard with their Gameboy (which has collectively sold well over 100 million units) I'll agree with you!;)
As a gamer I would be very unhappy if stuck with a one button mouse. First Person Shooters are all about speed and reaction time so fumbling with the keyboard can often get you killed. I currently use a mouse with around 6 buttons and it seems to be the most efficient for me. I seldom concern myself with the aesthetics of the setup but maybe thats why I'm not in Steve Jobs target demographic. I look form over function only when it doesn't compromise usability. Give the customers what they need not what looks pretty or adheres to a minimalistic philosophy.
As you can see my perspective on this is mostly driven by my love of gaming.
This is definitly cool and appeals to my inner nerd but I think this illustrates why Steve Jobs one man war on buttons won't catch on. There's something to be said about physical buttons. Let's say Apple releases an API and encourages application development for the iPhone...the lack of buttons will impact some of the most likely applications to be developed...GAMES!
I think the iPhone is cool...I can't wait to see many of its features show up elsewhere but I hope that the lack of buttons stays where it is. I simply do not want to play games on a phone using the touchscreen.
My two cents...carry on!
Is it just me or does this sound incredibly dangerous? Killer Bees have shown the detrimental impacts of introducing non native species into new environments. This bacteria is not only not native but millions of years old so perhaps its at a completely different evolutionary stage or possesses attributes that will either cause it to flourish in todays environment or die quickly.
One can only imagine that someday a virus or a bacteria will be thawed out that could potentially reak havoc in todays world. Talk about messing with a fragile equilibrium.
This is both cool and scary.

how can they possibly deduce the trajectories of those asteroids? Maybe it's a coincidence.
now THIS is an iPod I would be proud to own. Now if I can just convince myself that iTunes doesn't suck. ;)
Very cool...spendy....but cool.
they might not!!! ;)
How trustworthy is this algorithm
you'll be an undocumented reincarnation
Companies like Dell now sell models without any preinstalled software. Knowing is half the battle! ;)

That's like saying because OJ got away with murder we should all be able to. I second who ever just said "Two wrongs don't make a right".
