The thing is, is that 99% of the people who put in their resumes are CS graduates. I guess we're only as good as the pool of talent that expresses interest in our openings.
I understand what you're saying though and you might be 100% correct.
I'm a senior software developer in my company with roughyl 15 years worth of experience and a CS degree under my belt.
The newer developers are either mechnical or electrical engineers who learned to program with a book in one hand and a keyboard in the other OR they're right out of college waiting for their CS diploma to be mailed. I find that although they have a great understanding of the languages we use they have very little grasp of design patterns and architectures. Stuff like that can only come from experience and knowing what works well given the scenerio. I find that when left on their own they simply are incapable of coming up with an effective architecture...or I should say anything beyond the obvious 3-Tiered approach. I'm at a point where I design our software systems and hand them off to the less experienced developers.
I would prefer we trade in several of them for one more seasoned veteran since they will be in a better position to come up with simpler and more powerful designs that require less coding.
My two cents
I did something very similar to this using articles from AI Game Programming Wisdom Volume 1.
As usual technology always gets attributed to whomever makes the most overhyped game and not the originator.
(Troll me baby!)
Troll? God this site makes me laugh. People post comments like "This is proof your country is stupid" and I get a troll rating for a borderline cliched and harmless joke.
The moderation here is a total joke. Unless your post consists of praising Linux or attacking Microsoft you'll get negative points.
Whatever did parents do before this?!?!?!?
When I was growing up my parents simply told me "No TV" and I didn't watch any. They said "No game systems" so they didn't buy any.
The V-Chip is a crutch for modern parents. Several generations of parents did just fine supervising what shows their children watched and what games they played (if any at all).
Maybe I'm not a parent but I was a kid...during a generation that had computers, consoles and TVs and my parents were very effective at supervising what I did despite them both being technologically illiterate and working fulltime.
The V-Chip is not an essential aid in raising children...like so many other things its a crutch for the lowest common denominator that the governement doesn't trust to be responsible for themselves.
Perhaps it's because Linux users are manually installing the OS. I don't think sales of Linux PC's as an accurate benchmark of it's overall use in an area. I would suspect that 99% of PCs come with Internet Explorer but we know Firefox use is much higher than that.

As usual anything that puts Windows in a positive light is deemed flaimbait or trolling.
Slashdot is a joke when its comes to objectivity.
+5 bias
...seeing as its definition of fanboy is wrong. Fanboys have nothing to do with underdogs. There are fanboys of Microsoft, Star Wars and Star Trek hardly any of which are underdogs. Fanboys are merely fans who take their love affair to the extreme regardles of whether their love interest is an underdog or not.
This article is absolute nonsense. I speced out a high end gaming notebook and the Apple notebook was over 1K more despite having a lower res screen and a much slower video card.
Just the other day I was reading up on the RSA challange and was dissapointed to read that it had been cancelled. I was reading up on it because at work we were researching various algorithms for factoring large numbers.
Good to know a the absence of a cash incentive hasn't slowed down progress in this field.;)
This seems like cool work to me and maybe an app like this would be a great addition to Folding at Home for the PS3!
Clearly she doesnt game or likes to install such simple things as Java or Netbeans.
I laughed my ass off when Ubuntu required me to do both from the command line...ever heard of clicking an install file?
Linux is still years away from being user friendly for the average user.
Gee...Flash 9 isnt free.
Gee...Flash 9 doesnt allow me to leverage existing code
Gee...Flash 9 doesnt unify my code base from the server all the way to the client.
Let go of your grip on Flashs nuts for a second.

Elton John beat the Internet to it years ago
I'm less interested in what it's going to look like but far more interested in how politicians are gonna try and describe it!!
Whoops...my bad! That's what I get for responding before having my coffee!

PS2 = Playstation 2 They were actually classified as a supercomputer
...we call gaming.
I love the cheap jab at the end as if to suggest that his failings were anything but a complete lack of business sense.
Tron...he fights for the users.
I think Steve Jobs actually hates users as well.
I didn't realize China imported Soviet nukes and placed them 100 miles off of the coast of the US. Oh wait they didnt.

will go nicely towards games to play on those PCs. Oh wait....
I guess it was implicitly immplied they were referring to the HD versions.
