    People's memory doesn't suck. In ancient times people could recite the equivalent of entire novels, almost word for word. When paper was rare and literacy even rarer, memory was all they had, and they made the best of it.

    As a side note, is it legal to borrow three books from your local library, photocopy all the pages and then return them? Yep. You can copy whatever you like.

    When I moved to mostly use Linux, cost of the distro I chose was not an issue. When your $350 PC suddenly costs 20% more, trust me, it's an issue.

    "IE has a market share of over 50%." I can write a web app that works on Firefox 1, 2 and 3 with the same exact code. Can you do that with IE 5,6 and 7? No. So stop pretending that IE in all it's incarnations is the same browser. No single version of IE has more than 30% market share, which makes it about equal with Firefox.

    Yeah, like buying any non-apple computer from an OEM. All the schools' computers probably came with a Windows license.

    Here in the US we have one little legal principle known as "innocent until proven guilty". Not in civil court, where copyright cases are heard.

    For me, GMail equals unprofessional. It equals Mom and Pop. It means you can't even afford to run your own mail server or have someone do it for you. It means not knowing if the person I'm dealing with is really associated with the domain or the business in question. Last I checked, you could pay for Gmail and use your own domain name.

    Hardware support isn't really a huge deal unless you already own the hardware, in which case you would already have a DVR.
