Parent is not flame bait possibly off topic a bit but still it is true in the point they are making. If you don't own the hardware or the software how can you honestly say the data is yours and is secure? I mean really, think about it... These are big companies, what if one of the competitors slips them a few thousand grand under the table for a peek at your customer database which is conveniently hosted on the website. Companies did this in the old days between each other to compile junk mailing lists and telemarketer calling numbers.
Business is a dirty and underhanded as the underbelly of the spy scene. There are those who are willing to get ahead by any means necessary (look at recent complaints about Target and BestBuy). These are the exact same companies that you are typically entrusting your private information such as credit cards and mailing info to on a daily basis.
It is good to have DIFFERENT THINGS... But the fact is at the end of the day you have to pander to the End Users of the world. This means making things that JUST WORK and work the way they expect (Windows).
If Linux as a whole can ever get End Users off the Microsoft teat then they'll be able to slowly make changes to make things better. As it is from any Microsoft environment to a Linux one is a little bit of a culture shock even if everything works (but not as they expect it to)
Not that hard to prove they are doing it. Just pull up a packet sniffer and point out all the RST packets.
Now if they want to say forging packet sniffing data and/or screenshots, etc... is too easy then take that ruling and apply it to every single computer crime case ever.
I'm betting its useless through walls since 802.11a uses 5GHz band and it very reliant on line of sight (you might be able to put it through a single wall). There are good reasons to use these though like if you want to limit your WiFi to the inside of a building and such it might limit the range to an acceptable level outside where someone passing by on the road wont be able to pick up a wireless signal. Likewise using these ultra high frequency ranges may make it impossible for it to pass outside the house which would effectively be good if you wanted to design a system that neighbors could not catch what you're watching on their TV.
The thing is from what I understand is that in order to get data from A to B more quickly you either need A) Multiple bands/More Bandwidth or B) Higher Frequency because you can switch states faster.
And yeah, Trusted Computing it about not trusting the user. You dont think that these companies are gonna get together and say 'We know what is best for you' at some later date when we're all stuck into the Trusted Computing format and lock us all down. Kiss Open Source goodbye because someone will make the argument that Linux cant be trusted because its Open Source and a PHB at one of these hardware companies will (stupidly) agree.
You are forgetting one thing. Their path is effectively one dimensional, forwards and backwards. Highway cops have to be distributed in two dimensions (north-south and east-west) which is why they probably didnt pass 1 patrol officer every 3.7 seconds.
Honestly... I think the Jury should have went and asked what the royalty was for public performance for a song and used that to set the figure for determining damages.
Plus where was the defense's 10 year old kid who could doctor a screenshot to prove that such items should not be considered hard evidence? I mean it *IS* harder to spoof an IP address than it is to doctor a screenshot.
How many times has Wikipedia article been edited by the Hard Drive Industry though?
As a Canadian I'll say I'm pissed off. If these guys were popular celebrities they'd have been waved through for all their DUI's and such.

It's like compound interest... 100 * (1.067 ^ 10) = 191.26. So yes the price HAS apparently gone up something like 93% in the past 10 years.
What else besides gas/oil related crap has gone up that fast in the past 10 years?
Someone needs to tag this 'wagthedog'.
Story should be tagged 'fairuse' too or possibly 'analogholeinaction'
But where are Adam and Jamie gonna get a nuclear weapon that big? With the help of their friends at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission of course!

Or you could try doing a little Hammer Time at Comcast while you're there.

It will if you're like 800lbs from not walking from the garage.
But where were the pirates? Clearly someone has to defend RMS against the ninjas...
If its one thing I've learned from Star Trek is to multiply all your time related estimates by a factor of 4. (IE. Under Promise and Over Deliver)
Naw Uncle Sam takes 40%... Still a huge lump of cash they're sitting on though.

But if they lost their voice they could resort to sign language and keep going.
My computer needs more Terabytes
Why would they appeal? I mean seriously. They just got shot down on both obviousness and possibly prior art.

I guess Microsoft got Kernel mixed up with GUI. 1 Patent down, 234 more to go?
I dont know I think the Russian Mafia is doing a pretty good job.
Yes I know its probably fake. Still amusing though.
But then there would be no room for any 'in soviet russia' jokes or similar.
Specifications? We dont need not stinkin' specifications!
