  1. The Seinfeld Treatment on Fighting Back Against Ghost Calls · · Score: 0

I like to give them the Jerry Seinfeld treatment. (phone rings - Jerry answers) Jerry - "Hello?" caller - "Hello Mr. Seinfeld...." (Jerry Interrupts) Jerry - "...Excuse me I am getting ready to eat dinner, give me your home phone number and I will call you back!" (you don't hear the caller talking to Jerry) Jerry - "...really? You don't like people calling you at home? Now you know how I feel" HANG UP! Seriously though, keep an airhorn by the phone. When they call, get the human to start talking to you, then Air Horn them. A few of these deafening calls and they willleave you alone!

  2. Making money is bad on Rowling Sues Harry Potter Lexicon · · Score: -1

After reading a lot or responses I have to agree with Rowling. I didn't realize the Lexicon was actually profiting from what they are doing. I's one thing if they do it as a 'fan' and a resource. When it turns out to be a money maker for the Lexicon folks, that's where they are wrong. Either give all the proceeds to her charity or do it for free.

  3. My Netflix Experience on Close but no Cigar for Netflix Recommender System · · Score: 0

Here's the problem I had...I was picking comedy movies - any and all. Netflix recommended Horror and Action flicks. That is 0% correct. Let's see a 10% improvement on 0% accuracy is...0! Sounds right. Netflix NEVER even came close to trying to get it right. It never suggested anything in the genre I was getting my movies from. AND to make it worse, when I would check the "not interested" box by the Horror/Action flicks, they would still show up as recommendations. Come on NetFLix - at least don't show me the ones I told you not to show me.

  4. Profiling - Great idea!! on Facial Recognition Vending Machine Debuts · · Score: 0

Great idea! Profile people's ages based on supposed wrinkle recognition. So it's going to be able to tell if I am 20 or 21 for a beer machine? WOW! Human beings can't tell without asking for ID. A cigarette vending machine will know if you are 17 or 18? Nice. So if you are older, it'll only dispense Geritol? WOW! I'm so glad the Japanese have so much free time to waste...err Productivly explore things like this.

Why not poitn everything we have in that direction??

  8. Blog Details on School District Threatens Suit Over Parent's Blog · · Score: 0

I have not read the blog but did the poster mention at all that "This is expressly my OPINION"?? - I would think that the "opinion clause" would help CYA him from trouble. In a similar story, I remember when Dunkin Donuts was getting upset at a website/blog that had people posting all negative experiences about the food chain. They told the owner to cease and desist and yelled slander, etc. The owner of the blog/website did not back down because there was no merit to do so. It was his and thousands of posters opinion of their experience with the company. Eventually, Dunkin Donuts found the only way to stop the bleeding was to cut it off. They bought the website/blog from the owner and then shut it down.

  9. We're thinking of doing this at work on Students In UK Tracked With RFID Chips · · Score: 0

If they know about the RFID tags then fine, they know what they are getting. If it's a secret from the kids & parents, that is a problem. At my workplace, we're looking into RFID for PC use - you can walk up to your PC and it will log you in and when you walk away, log you out.

  10. Is the Trademark (TM) available?? on Is a Domain Name an Automatic Trademark? · · Score: 0

This guy with the website is nuts. If he Trademarked it, then prove it, otherwise if I were the blogger I'd spend the money and get the trademark and then turn around and sue the website owner. Make him give up the Domain and pay you some cash to boot.

  11. It's not 3D - it's Panaramic on Recreating Cities Using Online Photos · · Score: 0

I checked this out last week - supposed 3D of Nasa in Florida - it's not 3D it's panaramic. Nothing groundbreaking whatsoever. In fact, why waste tiem with this? Google Earth/Maps has been working on this and it' much better - you can 'drive' down the street and check out locations.

I thought the object was to 'err on the side of caution' on these matters. Seems the 'Admin' crew prefers to delete frist and ask questions later. I have had many relevant and I thought worthy additions deleted with neither ryme nor nor reason. There needs to be some kind of time lock on additions, where nothing can be removed for a week - to give people a real chance to 'like it or hate it' - then, it should take a majority rule of mods/admins to delete it.

  13. Best Buy Depot? on Best Buy Customer Gets Box Full of Bathroom Tiles Instead of Hard Drive · · Score: 0

Since when did Best Buy get into the home improvement business? The quote "The employee and assistant manager were more than willing to help, saying that it happens." They redily admit it happens and therefore has happened before and will happen again. This needs to be persued for sure. Of course one obvious question comes to mind, why shop at Best Buy? They are clueless anyhow.

  15. Re:Low-to-middle-income families watching cable... on FCC To End Exclusive Cable For Apartments · · Score: 0

What are low-income families doing with cable anyway? I don't mean to sound like Scrooge, but it pisses me off when an elementary school kid shows up at school without a coat in the dead of winter because his parents "can't afford one," but they sure can afford to pay the cable bill every month. /rant ...Agreed. Poor folks seem to do a lot of things they should not - buying alcohol and smokes, junk food, Cable TV, cellphones, etc. Some people need things regulated for them. This is the generation of parents who, as kids, were given strict rules by their "Baby Boomer" parents and now they have vowed to not do the same with their kids - so they let them run rampant. Back on topic though, just because cable is there doesn't mean you can afford it or need it.
  16. Re:Could be something good on FCC To End Exclusive Cable For Apartments · · Score: 0

I live in an apartment and our current cable package allows us the first 25 Cable channels "free" with our rent. I would LOVE to have pricing cometition because we only have 1 game in town. They allowed Verizon in for Fios/Internet but not for cable. Now things will open up and allow us better deals and more options.

I still want al la carte choices too. I am not spanish and do not need 3 Spanish channels as part of the 'free' 25 channels. I don't need a real estate channel either. Out of the 25 'free' channels I only care about ABC, CBS, NBC and that is it.

I plan to send this information to my apartment complex and push to get this up and going.
