    In the silicon valley IT IS incredibly hard to find decent people!!! Where I work we have been trying to hire e-commerce support people starting at high 60s, low 70k range (standard salary in this huge company) and it is nearly impossible!!!! Either they only know some basic NT stuff or they have so many offers that we get passed over. This is not a job where you have to work 80 or 90 hours a week either.

    Have you ever wondered why AMD added 3DNow! to their chips?

    Maybe because the AMD chips SUCKED in FP operations? I had a K62-300, and in games it was simply blown out of the water by a celeron 300A. I think the K6 was slightly faster in integer ops though.

    hehe, yeah, you can see artifacts around the windows widgets in the mpeg4 version which aren't in the mpeg2 picture. Doh!

    Some small corrections/info - there are two mpeg4 sources floating around - an ISO one and a Miscrosoft/(large japanese corp) one. They can be grabbed off the create-divx-for-mac-win-$$ website. The 'real' MPEG4 uses a quicktime like file format, but definitely does not use the sorensen codec. It uses the same algo as the MS MPEG4. Why they are using the QT file format is beyond me - it allows sprites and 3d models to be in a movie format - seems useful for little more than advertisements. Just what I always wanted.

    For Java you can use retepPDF

    For C++ you can use ClipPDF.

    retepPDF is GPL, ClipPDF has its own license.

    I thinnk a LOGO based OS is what the world needs right now. Windows style OSes are obviously not that great, and we need to break the rest of the world out of the stagnation that UNIX domination has brought.

    If netscape did do a rewrite in Logo, every web page would have a turtle on it. Just think of the glory of those millions of little green turtles scuttling around!!

    Actually, my PhD thesis is going to be rewriting Linux's TCP/IP stack in Logo. Should be fun.

    with my Athlon 500 and 256 ram I cannot run an IE 5 session without getting skips out of winamp

    Considering I can do this with a Celeron 300A (not oc'ed), I can safely assume your computer is phuX0red.

    I went to Berkeley, paid $2200 USD / semester (2 semesters / year), worked during the school year 20-30 hrs. depending on how I felt, and worked full time during the summer. I had to take out loans my first year but after that I was completely self suffiecient. The only money I got from my parents was about $100 around christmas time. That bought about 1 text book.

    In an interview with the USPTO director it was indicated that the only prior art they check are previous patents and selected professional journals. The patent office understaffed, underfunded, and run by idiots. Looks like I'll have to move to canada before the decades out...

    Could you use 2 magnetic fields of the same density, but of opposite polar strength, be used to rip something apart (or someone as someone mentioned)??

    A good reason to take intro E&M....the two magnetic fields would cancel each other out.

    I thought the MAI was earlier than '93, but I believe that its conclusion was basically overruled by the Software Copyright Act which specifically allows loading software into RAM. Also interesting is Sega v Accolade in which Sega claimed Accolade violated its copyright in the process of reverse engineering because it made backup copies of the program. Sega lost.

    I'm filing suit against Tim Berners-Lee for creating the web which helps people find kiddy porn. I'm filing suit against Vint Cerf for his part in developing TCP/IP. I'm suing Moore for mass production of computers. I'm suing Shockley for developing the transistor. I'm suing Maxwell for his work in E&M which is vital for our understanding of electronics. And finally, God will be hearing from my lawyers for starting this whole mess.
