yeah, then he would have had 1 or 2 games for that amount of money -_- maybe i'm the only one who finds it ridiculous, but here in europe, the ds games are prices 40â new (some even 45)... wtf -_-, for a handheld game, that obviously didn't cost as much to develop as a pc game, that get sold at 45-50â....
while it's nice to see people promote the pandora (i'm in the first batch), lets not go overboard by making huge claims. it'll probably do 720p, but not 1080, which is impressive indeed, maybe someone will one day port xbmc or so, dunno.
my father has got one of those huge 19" laptops with a 3ghz+ pentium 4 processor and geforce 5xxx graphic chipset unless we put something under it so there is some room between the laptop and the table, it completely overheats as soon as i stress it (a simple game that a pc like that hsould easily handle. Diablo 2 or so) -_-. even with some room under it, it only takes a few minutes for it to get seriously hot (you can actually feel from the outside of the laptop where the hot spots are)
i wonder what ever made them create such stupid laptops (and what made my father buy one -_-)
my answer to those questions would be simple: -windows vs linux: linux may be more stable, but windows is still more userfriendly imo... it's ofcourse also a case of what you're used to etc... but even with ubuntu i've had far more annoying problems that with any windows, and that's to just get it working properly... (when installing ubuntu on my new pc i had to add an argument to the command the grub called for installing, since there was something weird with my dvd drive or so. never had windows pull tricks like that on me. and just that will scare away 99% of your potential users, since if it doesn't install, it's fair to think it won't work)
open office: as long as i can't say it's 100% compatible with word, it'll be of little use. ofcourse this is a nice comfy situation for microsoft, but it's the reason why. why did openoffice change my numbers to the arabic numerals when i loaded my document in it?
the gimp: i have little experience with it. but i keep hearing the same complaints that it just isn't as good/has a good interface as photoshop. may be a matter of taste, but if it were as good as you say, professionals would be flocking to it. and they obviously aren't
open source might be coming closer and closer to commercial software, but imo they've still got a long way to go. and for things like openoffice, i hope someone will someday get microsoft to have a good fileformat with which is is possible to get 100% compatibility, because that's the day others can take over (which is why microsoft is doing all it can to prevent that)
on the other hand, people do tend to go out of the way far sooner when you approach behind them in something like a bmw. my mother sometimes complains when she's driving the bmw that every car just makes way for her on the highway, rather forcing her to overtake them, even when she doesn't intend to. the few times i could drive it, i also noticed it. i usually drive a ford focus, people respond less agressively to your manoeuvres, but on the other hand, noone is inclined to get out of your way if you want to pass them -_-.
the sites where you can buy it from are indeed not too professional atm -_- once gp32x.com is up again (slashdotted atm), have a look there, these are known issues, and how to pay via paypal is explained there:)
this is a completely open source project, is there so far any good open source gps program? i've seen a few nice programs that work with bitmap maps from various sites, but those maps become huge, so it's useless on a large scale.
if a good opensource gps program does exist, porting it to the pandora, and attaching a gps receiver shouldn't be so hard
i'm just wondering, have we still got a day left that doesn't celebrate or encourage or is against or.... something? i would really celebrate that day, it would be amazing that it exists, rather that the 10000 things that have some day dedicated to them (and probably a dozen other things on the same day, since the days are probably seriously outnumbered by the occasions that "need" their own day)
what the hell are you complaining about -_- here in belgium the "unlimited" internet is 20GB/month at 45 euro/month, for 60 euro/month i think you can get 60GB/month... and they're also always advertising it as unlimited -_-. 250GB/month seems a very reasonable amount of traffic, you could easily do it for a single month, but if you can keep up that rate for an entire year, i can't but wonder what the heck you're downloading, you'd have to run out of stuff to download pretty quickly!
If this passes they might as well ban people from driving cars because they can be used to traffic illegal drugs.
from the lawmakers point of view, the illegal part is indeed the main reason. but for the isp's to take action, it's obviously another reason, it's more like "If this passes they might as well ban people from driving cars because they clog the roads"
eh no, the point is, that if they leave enough time in between the answers (and people will have forgotten their last answer better), they'll be able to give a new answer, just as good as the last one, but the average of both is more accurate.
rather than having 100 people give an answer, and take the average, which is remarkably accurate, ask 1 person 100 times, with enough interval for him to not always go to the same/similar answer because he remembers what he said previously. and this apparantly is also far more accurate than a single answer by that person.
which i find to be a nice result:). you'd expect someone to always make the same mistake, or go for a similar guess, but apparantly not:).
i found it such a shame that they went for gran turismo. couldn't he have gone for something that's actually a sim... like the games of simbin, or things like live for speed and rfactor (haven't played those yet, but heard they are also good sims).
yeah, gran turismo may be a bit more realistic than your average racer. but it's still very unrealistic and simple. as if they'd ever make a true sim for a playstation or xbox, console gamers are obviously not the audience for such things.
GT4, a simulation? seriously? yeah, it's a bit more realistic than your average racer, but i really find it too bad that top gear didn't go for some decent driving sim... those half sim, half arcade games on consoles aren't even close to being a sim...
what greatly annoys me in belgian newspapers, is that even in what's considered our best newspaper (not most popular, but with best content,... and very little sports ), i can hardly get through a single copy without finding math mistakes, or scientific things being reported... i've seen things pass like the title saying A out of B is... and then the article saying it's B out of A. a nice article mentioning the poisonous fumes from asbestos (you mean tiny dust particles that are dangerous?), simple math mistakes like "nearly 2 out of 3", and another newspaper then mentioning it's 69%, and worst of all, most of the times they use meaningless numbers (usually numbers relative to something unknown, or numbers without the slightest background of what's normal, or as frequently laughed with here on slashdot, numbers in the most imaginative units...)
how is it in other countries? are there any newspapers that are capable of presenting numbers and scientific facts in good, comprehensive, meaningful ways? or will the people of the word always be very weak at math/science, and are they too stuck up to hire someone who is good at it to verify their work to remove most of those mistakes?
and same goes for informatics ofcourse (like the site of our best newspaper announcing that "Windows launches Vista", after half an hour they fixed it to "Microsoft launches Vista"... still, how hard can it be to actually make sure you have the slightest clue what you're talking about...
i've seen lits about bad titles before (don't remember if it was on slashdot) one thing i do remember was Devine Divinity being in the list for redundant redundancy
yeah, then he would have had 1 or 2 games for that amount of money -_-

if you have no internet?
mr anderson?

next time also spoof your number, see if they bother to trace it, and then demand they do the same for whoever harasses you :D
frankly, a number like 465 tells nothing
465 out of how many employees?
i want to se a percentage, that tells a LOT more

do remember it's only a bit larger than a DS, so i think it should be okay.

my chinese isn't good enough to confirm that it actually is a translation error...
for all i know, it's an accurate translation
Hey, how'd you hit the Submit button? Is that some sort of "mobile" dial-up you're using?
I bet you're really fun at parties.
how so? he ruins all the jokes!
in that case
GET OFF MY LAWN!
