But how come for the founding fathers didn't remember the internets?!?!
Seriously though, that shows initiative to maintain communications infrastructure. I'm pretty sure they'd be in favor of a government controlled base medium (i.e. open wireless channels) that can be leased and operated by private companies. If another company can come in and offer the same services for less money, then you'll have competition. The current state of affairs is a small group of monopolies (no, not an oligopoly, in my area, as in many, there is only one provider allowed) colluding to pretty much screw everyone. It's a broken system and it's why we're so far behind other developed nations.
Sorry, maybe I didn't make myself clear. You are correct that iOS currently has more users than Android. You are incorrect in stating that iOS devices are outselling Android devices. Ergo, the truth lies between your assertion that iOS is more popular and outselling Android and others assertions that Android is more popular than iOS.
If analytic firms (and their summaries on Wikipedia) are to be believed (and for this I'm too lazy to do real follow up), then iOS is currently #2, but should be supplanted sometime in 2011 or 2012 (read paragraphs 3-4). Android is gaining market share primarily at the expense of RIM.
As a kid, I was a brat and didn't cope well with new situations and was very poor at verbal communication with those that I didn't know. 'Round about 5th or 6th grade I decided the reason people didn't like me much was because I had a horrible temper and I made a conscious effort to fix that. Now I'm very easy going and adapt well to large scale changes in my life. Additionally, I have no issues with public speaking now, so I'd say I did almost a complete 180 starting in late grade school and really being notable around the time I graduated high school. It's tough and requires a lot of effort, but you can change the way you behave.
So it was just 3-5 years away 15 years ago? Then you're saying it might actually only be 2-3 years away now? I look forward to having these in my cell phone sometime around 2025!
There are a lot of comments to shift through, so I imagine someone else has already put it out there that the long and short of it is: not without custom hardware. Additionally, if you have the hardware to do something useful with the bits once they've been written, then you should have the means to perform the writes.
If you're wanting to get exactly the bits that the drive controller thinks are in particular places without regard for OS caching and so on, then doing direct SCSI passthrough will get you as close to what you want as the drive will allow, though this still leaves ECC and you'll have to deal with sector boundaries (512b for the majority of drives, 520b seems to be mildly popular as well).
As has been pointed out by many, knowing why you want to do this may lead to a better solution.
because if they saw the number of people viewing this way, they might (as in unicorns exist kinda might) start releasing their own high quality downloads with the ads in them...hell, I'd watch the ads just because I'm too lazy to skip past them.
Hells yeah I'd use one. I'd keep it in my bag and use it when I'm out and need to give lengthy responses to e-mails, stuck somewhere and want to watch some netflix (maybe...if netflix moves away from silverlight to html5) or hulu or something. I've got a million places I'd use this. It'd be basically a larger version of my Android phone. Sometimes the phone is just a little cramped and I'd like a little more screen real estate...also, Google, if you're reading this, I could also totally make use of an electric car that's ad supported...I'm just sayin'.
On board with you...been without the cable for nearly a year now. Netflix, Hulu, OTA, and Google supply me with all the entertainment I should bother with anyway. If I can't find what I want in less than a minute, I shouldn't be sitting on my fat ass anyway, so I go outside. I think it's a really good paradigm shift. I've lost loads of weight since I got rid of cable.
I own a PS3 and I watch blu-ray from Netflix on it all the time. I don't even have the remote and the interface is very nice. Also, due to how much horsepower the system has, it's one of the top players on the market. A friend of mine has both the PS3 and a standalone player (his parents), and I can honestly say that it's a wash as far as interface goes. The discs themselves pretty much determine that. Image quality wise, I can't tell the difference. Also, the 120hz TV causes a strange effect when you see blu-ray movies on it...almost feels like the movie is being fast forwarded.
Long post short: I have a PS3 and will not buy a standalone because the gaming console is just fine for playing movies.
AMD is fabbing on the 45 nano meter process...or the 4.5 micrometer process if you will. Super small, but not nano yet. I think there are fabs getting down to the 25nm process, but that's still only micro.
Can we have the tabs autohide the way you can have the windows taskbar autohide? Then the web takes up the entire screen...or should I just hit f11?
I'm running Chrome and it appears to work fine...slow, but you can't blame the browser for that.

As is typical in arguments like this, the truth is somewhere in between.

I assume by 'less' in that sentence you're referring to the Black Plague?

Credits...lots of people to thank and all that

I dunno, Fargo seemed totally plausible.
Bubba from Folsom would like to lodge a disagreement with the second half of your statement...now try asking where he's going to lodge it.
...but it is time that slashdotters understand that running a business into the ground by failing to adapt is tough.
FTFY
What does the Impossible Mission Force have to do with any of this?
Only if you're using IceWM

Nah, just less efficient
Please mod parent up...people reading propaganda should at least be able to see the comment of truth!
Amen

Good call...I'm still working on that whole brain to keyboard filter thing.
Forget nano, my 4 year old processor was created using a 9000 femtometer process!
