    If I discovered that a publisher had repossessed a physical book, I would charge them with breaking and entering, theft, etc .etc ..

    They have no right to hack into my device and remove the copy of a book I bought either .... ..they can rescind my licence, but I will still own the copy (weather it's a physical book or a set of bits on my device)

    ..ahhh England where I buy fuel in litres, put it in a car rated in mpg, drive in miles down the road, under a bridge measured in meters, go to the shops and buy a litre of milk, go to the pub and buy a pint of beer ....

    Metric or Imperial .... we use both ....!

    Most of the world uses l/100km ...

    It's a US thing mpg(us) and a UK thing mpg(uk)

    note they are different .... !

    10mpg = 23.5 L/100km
    20mpg = 11.76 L/100km
    33mpg = 7.12 L /100km
    50mpg = 4.7 L/100km

    I think most people would see there is a bigger step between 23.5 - 11.76 than 7.12 - 4.7 and so get it right ...

    Having said that any car that does less than 30mpg should be a track car only ....

    The most efficient car on this is a hybrid (Prius or Civic) but many Diesel cars sold in Europe are more efficient than either of these, mostly because they weigh far less

    It also does not seem to understand the concept of a "small car" ... most of the small cars listed are medium sized, since when has a Subaru Impreza been a small car!

    The kernel is no more and no less secure ... it is the rest of the Operating system that makes it secure ...

    Linux/Unix apps have always assumed they have no access and cannot access outside the user directory, and generally do not have access

    Windows apps are slowly following this but slowly ....

    The difference is that most security problems with Linux that are patched are minor, only a problem if your system is insecure in other ways, a rather large number of similar security problems with Windows break the system wide open even on a securely setup system ...

    The other difference is that a known fault in Linux tends to be patched quickly, on Windows it only gets patched if someone outside Microsoft knows about it and tells people .... otherwise it is buried

    All the Badly coded legacy applications....are Windows Logo certified

    To be a windows Logo app the *had* to write to C:\Program Files\

    They had to keep everything in the Registry ...and many other things that are now "legacy" and "insecure" ....

    When do the Certified for Vista apps start being accused of using the old security model, and being insecure

    It's an OS to launch and run a browser, which does *all* the work .... and do as little as possible otherwise ....

    It's competing with very little ....at the moment, except if you have a thin client desktop machine ?

    Do you need to use Google if you use Chrome and ChromeOS ... probably not

    Do Google have a large market share in browsers - No

    Do Google have a large market share in OS's - No

    No monopoly behaviour here ....

    If they send unencrypted sensitive data over a public network they get everything they deserve ...

    Private secure networks are there for a reason

    Encryption is there for a reason

    Tor (Anonymizing networks) are there for a reason

    Use the combination you need depending on the data you need to send ....

    Without an ID card if I am walking down the street, a policeman can stop me (with reasonable suspicion) but cannot ask for my name and address, with an ID card he could ask for that, and get my name address and much much more

    That is the problem ....

    The Conservative-Liberal coalition is more liberal than Labour ....

    The Conservatives proposed an ID card before labour, introduced widespread CCTV originally, the precursors of a war or two (technically legal ...but they would have done it anyway)

    The Lib-Dems were against ID cards, against the war, against CCTV ....

    Together they moderate each others extreme policies ....

    This assumes the myth that Most Journalists actually produce anything .... ...since mostly they regurgitate other newsfeeds, and PR companies press releases all of which can be gained from other sites they are not adding any value ...

    Note: a few journalists still actually investigate a story, and a very few break a story... but these are very rare in the newspaper world nowadays, and certainly not any of Murdoch's rags ...

    the only requirement is water, but sometimes in such minute amounts that it was found *after* we found the life that depends on it ....
