The cell phone I had in the year 2000 could memorize more phone numbers than I could; that seemed pretty smart to me for its time. There was even a camera add-on available for it.
The NASDAQ won't be meaningful until the overvalued stocks are down to prices that reflect the value of their business and business plan. If you don't think Facebook is overvalued, then tell me, what is their business plan? That's OK, because nobody who works there knows what it is, either. They are rapidly approaching the end of their hype. Once the shit hits the fan and investors want to see profit they will go the way of plenty of other dot-com bombs.
Indeed considering the conservative majority around here I'm surprised it was only tagged as "funny". I really thought it would finally be the post I place that scored "insightful" "informative" and "interesting" all in one. Instead I got several "funny" mods. Go figure.
You prefer the clit mouse to a multitouch trackpad?
Yes, I do. I can move that with my finger without moving my hands from the keyboard. Furthermore, I never move it by accident with my thumbs or wrist when they are resting at the bottom of the keyboard. I can also push it once and get as far across the screen as I need with whatever resolution I need. I cannot say the same about any touchpad ever made.
Indeed. The only laptops I buy are Lenovo. They last longer, are easier to upgrade, and you can still download the service manuals for free from the manufacturer if you are so inclined. And to top it all off they have pointing devices that are usable instead of ones that get in the way of productivity, which Apple certainly can't claim.
I'm not sure that facebook boy deserves to be called a billionaire. He holds more than a billion dollars worth of (horrendously overvalued) stock, but as best I have heard he does not have a billion dollars in actual currency. He won't likely be willing - or able - to sell off his stock quickly enough to reach a net worth of $1B when the stock finally tanks for the last time when the market acknowledges that facebook has no actual business plan that can produce at that level.
The plastic gun might be novel and all, but if it can't hit anything because the barrel and other important parts flex and distort too much, then it's not worth anything as a weapon. And if another one gets off 8 shots before self-destructing the question should be asked of whether the first 7 shots were of any accuracy.
Considering how close that is to a nuclear power station I think you might have bigger things to worry about than a military drone that went down in the lake.
If we start to treat all forms of visually distracted driving in the way that civilized countries treat drunk driving we might get people to reconsider their behaviors. Being as we are dealing with things that people choose to do, the idea of punishment bad choices should not be anywhere near as unpopular as it is.
We were taught to use them regularly. If they didn't suit our needs we needed to do the rest in our head. They were portable, too; though not interchangeable with other sets. They also came at no cost to the school (though I did know some kids who had only 5, at no fault of their own).
SSSHHHH! Don't suggest that in front of the Amazon loyalists. They insist that everything at Amazon is at least 99.9% cheaper than any brick and mortar retailer that has ever existed for the same item.
Best Buy is still in business. You can bash them as much as you want, but they do still exist and they do still operate stores. You can tell me about how much cheaper you can get what you want from Amazon and how much you hate the cashiers at you local store, but that doesn't really matter. They are still in business because people still want to buy things in person, and some of those items aren't carried at WalMart.
They still have a few years to go, if they continue to not figure out what they need to change to be relevant with younger consumers. They have at least a few years because it will take that long for online merchants to figure out a way to get their products to people more quickly without charging too much for shipping. There will always be consumers who want their items today, and there will be retailers to fill that niche. It might not be Best Buy in the future, but there will be someone.
If you want to measure public opinion you actually need sites like this.
This site skews so hard to the right that they'd be just as well off scanning an NRA forum. Saying that it accurately gauges public opinion on a whole is laughable.
How do you know how to spin things, or continue to spin things, if you don't know how much information the public has.
This site would show a lot of how little some vocal subset of the public has. As far as representing a cross-section of the public as a whole it is pretty near useless.
I have a hard time believing that someone convinced them this site was worthwhile.
That's because you're letting your ego get in the way. This isn't about you.
I don't for a moment suspect this is about me. I'm incredibly uninteresting in pretty much every conceivable metric. My argument is that there are so few slashdot users at this point that the likelihood of anyone on here being worthwhile is remote at best.
This is about one or more specific targets that they believed or suspected were slashdot users.
I have a hard time believing that someone convinced them this site was worthwhile. Was this just some kind of training exercise for them, to make sure that they could handle the traffic volume from a dying site before they go and try to intercept traffic from one that is relevant?
With this console the question of running Linux won't even matter. The question will be how long until it boots Windows. It is no longer running hardware that is far removed from what exists in standard PCs, now it will be a question of getting the PS4 to dual boot the Sony PS4 OS and Windows, so that it can run Windows games as well.
The PS3 was somewhat useful to run Linux on from a computational standpoint because of the raw power of the Cell CPU. The PS4 runs an x86 instead; we can get more x86 computing power than this for $400 in other places and a warranty as well. The people who will want to dual boot this system are gamers who want the largest possible library available to play on their TV.
I would further bet that the console that wins this round, between PS4 and XBOne, will be the one that can first run windows games well on the TV. We would expect Microsoft to have a lead on this, but only time will tell.
This is the first time they have released a console that uses the same optical format as its predecessor - yet it can't play the software written for said predecsessor. They have made their old stuff obsolete and are demanding people pay more money to get that much more. I'd be surprised if people are willing to part with $400 for this new generation.
Ontario has no-fault insurance as the standard car insurance now. That means that if you're injured in a car accident, if you get a note from a doctor saying you need something, you get it pretty much right away, and the insurance companies sort out the liability between themselves
Many states in the US are defined as "no fault", however it doesn't mean what you just described. In the US, "no fault" means that a law enforcement officer will assign fault in the accident, and then the rates of everyone involved will go up. In contrast, in states that are not currently "no fault", a law enforcement officer will assign fault in the accident, and then the rates of everyone involved will go up. See the difference?
If they had physical access to the systems, they should have been able to reset the passwords. Now, if he was intentionally prohibiting them from accessing the systems, after being fired, then he was doing something criminal. If, on the other hand, he was withholding passwords while working there - and being tasked with security for the network - then he did nothing wrong.
Students learn organic by memorization. It is unfortunate but it's the truth. That said, we expect med students to excel at memorization and regurgitation so OChem is a good tool for learning that. The problem though is that we de-incentivize actual comprehension as the students learn that they won't need >90% of what they memorized in OChem later on (if we exclude that which is acceptable to look up in a reference later).
The other two console makers are surviving almost exclusively on FPS games. Eventually that market will saturate and simultatenously the innovations in the games will be so minimal that the profit will start to disappear. Neither Sony nor Microsoft seem to have a plan for what to do when the Halo / Battlefield / Medal of Honor / Call of Duty franchises start to lose their appeal. While Nintendo isn't turning in mega bucks selling these games they do have a much broader pallet of gaming genres making up their title sales.
But did they have smartphones?

This has to all be Barak Obama's fault, personally. There is no other possible explanation.

I get my freshwater from there.

That sounds like the ultimate foot fetish to me. That flea should seek help immediately.

If Tom DeLay was president would we call it Hammertime?

All he needed to add was some random monologue (preferable to be very angry monologue) and it would fit right in with the top 40.
