"The Bunker guys", the ISP Bahnhof have actually done a great thing. They have pointed to an older (but still valid) law which states that telcos and ISP's should save as little information about their customers communication as possible, meaning ISP's are allowed and supposed to delete logs when not needed anymore.

The new IPRED law states that ISP's have to give out logs to the RIAA etc. after a court ruling. They do not need to give them out if they dont have them, so amazingly Bahnhof is an ISP that is actually looking out for their own customers.

Support the good guys, support Bahnhof.

Having a tendency to come up with bright ideas under pressure is simply a liability in the world of street level law enforcement.

Hmm... I call bullshit, but I do this with a nice little story to soften the blow.

When I was in the army (which used to be mandatory in my country), our units where made up of people from all walks of life. We had the rich and the poor, the bright and the slightly dim, in all four combinations.

Whenever something dangerous happened, it allways involved someone less intelligent. Please note that I don't define "less intelligent" based on the actual incidents, but on obeservations made when living toghether as two companies for almost a year.

These people forgot to unload their weapons, fired from behind the line during moving live fire training, repeatedly managed to throw grenades which had not been properly handled so they did not explode and had to be detonated by others. Several of them managed to leave behind their own AK5 with a full magazine of live amunition inserted for the public to find.

I saw no potentially deadly situations caused by people with high IQ. The smart people on occation whined about illogical orders, but they always understood when not to "fuck around", i.e. during live fire.

High IQ is only a problem when it is missing. A lack of impulse control and short attention span is a problem.

I'm on your side Hurricane. Humans are special (but not that special)

I have actually seen our dog understand how to catch rodents. The insight was an obvious watershed, because he went from zero successes over 5 or 6 years, to multiple successes per month for the rest of his "active" years after the realization:

Over here we have a type of rodent(in swedish they are called Skogssork, similar to or the same as Bank Voles) which creates a nest for its family by digging tunnel systems in the dirt. These tunnels can be several meters long so the Voles can exit the nest at many places.
Our dog had for many (annoying) years stood barking with his nose stuck down any of the tunnel openings, trying to dig his way to the Voles. He did this for hours at end and it was his best passtime.

One day when he had barked into an opening, I happened to be nearby and I saw a Vole exiting the nest by an opening far away from where our dog was, it having reacted to the dogs threat. I called out to our dog to chase it. Our dog saw the Vole and tried to get it, but could not catch it in time before it went underground again.

    Now comes the cool thing:
He then (after years of stupid barking down tunnel openings), went to the opening where the Vole had gone in, barked really loud, and then silently snuck back to the opposite side of the nest where he waited silently. After many years of pointless barking, he finally caught his first Vole. After that day our dog regularly brought home Voles, because he had understood how to outthink his rodent enemy.

It really is optional (but I agree with your statement).

On that same theme is the /. (american) "I am not a lawyer" statement, disconnected from the realities of this site. "Well, I did realize someone was Goatse-linking above and some other poster was called Adolph Hitroll, but this other user gave some advice and did not claim NOT to be a lawyer, so I just assumed he was."

I realize that there could be legal ramifications for actual lawyers using their public identities where someone could have a case against them, but for non-lawyers to think/feel they have to state this is just strange.

Just for the record: I am not Mel Torme.
