  1. With the economy in the crapper... on Brand Names Take On Generics In PSU Showdown · · Score: 1

You can get the best brands for the least amounts of money. Seriously, the prices for PSUs and other computer components have dropped drastically, as long as you are smart enough to stay away from dying retail stores with their aged inventory at horrible pre-Recession prices, and do your due diligence on online price engines you can score some insane bargains. Newegg and a bunch of other onliners kick Frys and Best Buys ass every time.

  2. If Teslas notes werent jacked upon his death... on Wireless Power Consortium Pushes For Standard · · Score: 1

Seriously, if Nikola Tesla's notes were not usurped upon his death by some goverment spooks, we would have had free electricity long ago. He got close to proving the concept with Wardenclyffe tower, before he got funding pulled by greedy bastards. Ironic really, that he made so much money for so many people (even bailed out the worthless Westinghouse), and in the end was left with nothing to wither away, his lifes work stolen, hidden and distorted by the people who really run the world. Beyond the obvious, how many top secret cutting edge technologies have been and being derived from the seeds of his genius?! I bet the stolen compillation of his works is a more fascinating read than Leonardo's sketches, but it will never see the light....

  5. Kick that dead horse OMGZ! on The Economist Suggests Linux For Netbooks · · Score: 1

Yet again, some self appointed pundit climbs the soap box to preach Linux uberness. OpenOffice is ass, it is slow, buggy and not ready for Prime Time. As far as actual day to day use, I really challenge the writer of the article to actually USE the products that he exaults and disses before making innane recommendations, among other things with a straight face compare Xandros to XP... I finally upgraded to Samsungs NC10-14GW from the POS EEE and it freakin rocks, nothing and I mean NOTHING compares to it. Before buying the Sammy I used my bosses Asus 1000 (he tried Ubuntu 8.10 install first with OO and then installed XP Pro and M$ Office instead because OO choked on most of the Excel spreadsheets. I also tried (although very briefly) my friends MSI Wind (he put XP Pro in it, but I didnt like the ergonomics and the battery life was a joke). Considering how stupid cheap these things are, why not get the best and most stable set up so you dont have to dick around after the fact and pay with the most expensive thing of all - your time. BTW to satisfy my occasional naughty need for Linux I still run Backtrack 3 from a 2cm USB minidongle with a 4gb microSD. So when I am stuck in an airport I can still catch up on work and play games (you know, the kind that dont work on Linux).
BTW, as far as "The Economists" writers credibility, I think this pretty much trashes it
The Acer has a built-in webcam, which makes it ideal for video-calling services such as Skype. Admittedly, installing third-party software can be a bit of a fiddle, and some of the advice available online threatens to lure users into the tangled depths of the Linux undergrowth, where few people will want to venture. But as netbooks become more prevalent, such difficulties are likely to ease.
Please note, vast majority of the Netbooks shipping TODAY (not the alpha batch) is shipping with Windows.

Holly crap, who would have though it was this easy?! Hey can Apple please disable GPS on the iPhones in Afganistan and Iraq so our troops can come home?! Since there are no other obvious alternatives to getting GPS besides the iPhone, and since GPS capability is clearly the only tool used by the terrorists around the world, we can pretty much end the war on terror with a simple phone call to Steve Jobs. Then the world governments can get back to sipping hot cocoa and laughing at the terrorists while ignoring their pitiful sobbing.

All of these institutions already have access to your SSN and all of your financial information, only reason they want it is because it holds just a little more weight than your signature for the purpose of fraud verification. As far as your privacy, its been screwed into the ground from the day you were born, you have been cataloged, assessed, verified and filed by the spooks and the corporations that sleep with them. Welcome to the Machine, you were already there.

  16. State of the art of local PDs can blow your mind.. on Police Cars To Transmit Real-Time Video · · Score: 3, Informative

Depending on where you live, I highly recommend going on a ride-along with your local Police Department. Some of the cities in Silicon Valley have Police Departments equipped with some amazing tech. From on the fly license plate scanning of all vehicles around you and bouncing those plates off the various alert lists, to their real-time map of all police, ambulance and fire trucks in the area that show them converging on accidents or violators. BTW, license plate scans are stored by time and gps location and can be used at a later time to locate people of interest... The car I was in also had video (pretty darn good quality) being recorded and accessable tby the PD "overseer" at any time. BTW, it gets even more interesting on their helicopters (didnt get to go but a friend works as a pilot for CHP). They got super high res, high end cams that automatically track people (touch screen - just touch the perps car and the camera and if necessary the spot light will stay on them), same deal as far as character recognizing the plates from way up high and storing time, gps, and pics of them for "other uses". Anectodally, the newest generation of plate recognition is completely nonplussed by the various covers or spray-on reflective crap - they get your info no matter what. Pretty cool stuff from tech point of view, and pretty creepy from the civil rights side.

I got 3 happy kids with 3 iPods and about 4 cubic meters of REAL LEGOS :) PS. If someone claims comparable quality between Legos and crap like Megablocks, they never played with them both.

  20. Counterproductive Legalese fluff... on Former IBM Exec Ordered To Stop Working For Apple · · Score: 1

From the ruling - he can not WORK for Apple, but he can be an ADVISOR to Steve Jobs. Seems like a punitive move, I do not think Mr. Papermasters compensation or contribution will diminish, although the way he gets his compensation will have a different label and channel... There really is no real way to stop someone from working for someone else if thats what they want. That said, I am sure he will bear no ill will towards IBM and not go that extra mile to screw his formal employer. IBM energy and expenses would have been betters spent on retaning their employee than trying to mess afterwards.
