The sequel(s) were bad - I only made it through Rama 2.
But the problem with the original is the lack of serious action...in terms of creating a movie. Most of the interesting bits happen between people's ears which is kinda hard to film...
Why define it? Cause that's one of the things astronomers do... they define and classify objects. Its just gotten more complicated because of new objects in the Solar System and around other stars...
One of the reasons the IAU tackled this issue at the last conference was politics - because the report from the Planet working group was leaked, the IAU felt they had to 'do something' fast because 'the press was watching'. They managed to make an entire mess of the process, including creating the redefinition 'rules' in a matter of days, and basically confusing the entire voting process...
I learned this from someone who was actually at the conference... and I was quite frankly appalled at they way they handled things.
I have never owned a Windows PC and I have barely ever used Windows, even though I bought my first computer in 1983 and have been using computers in one shape or form since then.
I have owned: 1 Commodore 64 3 Macs 1 Newton 1 iPod
I have used everything from Vic 20's, VM/CMS systems, PDP's, VAX's, Crays, SGI's, Macs, Linux, and Sun. And have never needed a PC to do anything I wanted to do.
Although, I might get one to play Grand Prix Legends (or Racing Legends, if it ever comes out) one day.
The James Webb telescope will not be accessible by anyone - its going to be at the L2 point. There will be no way to service it if anything goes wrong. And it is a very complicated piece of machinery - including a multi segmented mirror which will have to unfold to be useable.
Um, I really am a character in this book - just check the Author's Note in the back.

Some of Stel's science is a bit out there and some of it is not quite right, but he manages to pull a lot of threads together to keep you involved in the book..

While a few classic science fiction books have been adapted into movies, usually poorly - Dune and Starship Troopers are prime examples - few short stories seem to make the jump to film, unless they are PK Dick's.
Why do we not see more adaptations of short stories which seem to me to be far more suitable? I've always thought it was easier to add to a short story than to subtract from a novel.
They're churning out so many crappy ST books that its forcing bookstores to squeeze out real science fiction. I wonder how many rainforrests Pocket Books has wiped out so far?
It seems to me that there are just too many Star Trek (TM) books out there. They have even invented 'new' series to milk the franchise. They overrun the bookshelves of most major bookstores, forcing out other science fiction, in my opinion. I have not even picked one up in years because of the quality and plain greedy capitalism of the Paramount and Pocket Books.
As an author (and Captain Kirk (TM)), what is your opinion?
at the time of his death. But as all DNA fans know, he 'loved to hear the wooshing noise' deadlines make as they go by.
Hopefully the fellow they got to finish it off is good - he did Chicken Run.... and it should be directed by Jay Roach of the Austin Powers films. Hopefully the will get Hugh Laurie to play Arthur Dent - he was the fellow that played the moronic friend to Blackadder in the BBC series...
The production company is still working on the project...

Those percentages are probably new sales and do not reflect the existing desktops out there.

I happen to be a character in this book - Dr. John Hackett - so I am a bit biased in liking Stel's first effort a whole lot.
I can't wait until he second novel.
