There is a simple solution - call the folks at Amazon and tell them about the patents. This affects they way they do business. Let them fight it out with PanIP.
is quite obvious. Look at the amount of shelf space in many book stores. Ever notice the huge rack of Star Trek/Star Wars/etc books? There are at least 2-3 ST books published per month these days. They even invented new ST series to print more books. The sheer volume of this dreck will far exceed most science fiction sales which means will we see more of it. Assuming that they don't run out of rainforests first...
I have a BS in Astro, an MS (and soon mebbe) a PhD in High Energy Physics, I have done research at Fermilab, Missisippi, Michigan State, am a ficitional character in a SF novel, have taught astronomy labs, written the Astro lab manual and run the observatory at Mississippi, have been webmaster and system admin for the HEP group at Miss., have written thousands of lines of Fortran code, run my own website, and am currently the University Webmaster at Mississippi.
I have taken 2 undergrad computer courses (PL/1 and Fortran) at PSU...
And I have no clue what I am going to do when I grow up...
of Blake's 7. I dunno how anyone can consider this show to be original. The character's and basic theme (inverted) are stolen totally from B7. I did email the folks doing the B7 revival about it...
I accidently because the webmaster for the university I am attending at the ripe old age of 33, with degrees in physics and astronomy, no real computer science training, and no formal graphics training. I do have 7+ years of experience with web sites, 10 years of Unix experience, have a good eye, and no how to say 'No'.
The Physics Dept. shoulda given me that raise.... I'm making more that twice what I was as a grad student...
Can this website never post anything in a positive note regarding Apple? The viewpoints here are becoming as narrow and harsh as any brainwashed Microserf. Just because Apple isn't Linux or is not Open Source/Hardware or isn't artierial bleeding edge does not mean it immediately sucks. Or are you fellows looking to become the next ZDNet/Cnet type shills?
Please go back to ignoring Apple so we can skip all the bloody trolls and get some work done.
Uh, wrong. The clone vendors were using Apple's spec motherboards, avoiding R&D costs, clock chipping up inferior CPUs, using generic cases, and getting an OS for cheap...
The clones makers had one plus - they were smaller and able to access newer chips/parts faster because they basically did BTO... Jobs learned that lesson and applies it to Apple...
The business school here decided to set up their own servers a while back. In the process they knocked out the campus wide DHCP server by setting up their own. Took hours to figure out....
A few months later they managed to shut off access to their servers from any off campus IP address, including their website...
Don't forget about SirCam and Code Red!

With all the influx of new machines on campus, email accounts that have gone unchecked all summer, and the typical brain dead college student, be prepared for an onslaught of virus and worm problems.
We are actually taking our email server off line to strip out all SirCam infected emails this week. I think we had something like 6% of our active accounts containing SirCam emails.
We've also shut down something like 10 IPs/MAC addresses for Code Red.
Andromeda seems to be a poor ripoff of Blake's 7 to me. The characters correspond almost one to one (in number and in traits) and the 'plot' of Andromeda is just the converse of B7. Complete ripoff, poorly executed as well...
in Mississippi? Obviously not Steve Larson who does most of the CG classes at UM. Pity he is on his way to N. Michigan - say bye-bye to CG art classes at UM......

Go to http://www.blakes7.com - there is talk of bringing the series back. But that has been going on for years - a friend of mine was involved with it, but not much came of the effort...
That's not what I mean - they look great, but they only have a 1 year warranty, when most have 3 and they are a major hassle to repair. The inhouse Apple repair guys wont touch them cause the parts are too expensive and hard to get from Apple.
Look, anyone who knows anything about Apple knows that their CRT monitors were crap. And I am a Mac fan. So going to LCDs is no great surprise - they look great, they take up little space, and will only add to the bottom line.
Its got to be bad when RD is better than a 'serious' science fiction show (I use both those terms very loosely). And yes, I think the general public considers ST and its progeny to be the height ot science fiction. That's why the genre is doomed....
Heck, I'm at the end of the state pipe here in Oxford, MS - there's only one way out of the state, south to Jackson, then east and west. If
Anything crap out between here and there, we're down for the count...
Apple will provide DVD playback, iMovie, iDVD, and iTunes as free downloads for OS X, and folks would know that if they actually read any of the big Macs websites.
I am the webmaster for a medium sized Univesity in the South. While our IT department does an excellent job supporting the University, we face some serious staff and available technology issues.
How would you suggest balancing the privacy needs of a University community, the security issues created by such a diverse group, the issue of academic freedom, and the fact that college IT departments have serious staff/load/pay/tech issues?
well, which ones aren't pre-doomed? I mean how well is the PS2 doing when you can't get one? If I want to go that route, I'll order a Titanium PowerBoook from Apple
call amazon.com and let them loose upon PanIP

I don't think so...
