Far better just to remove the loopholes that are at issue than wholesale replace the system with a different and more cumbersome system that will have loopholes of its own.
I think this is a little off the point of your last paragraph but I'd just point out that malaria is a multi-species disease and as such, it's possible it could reach an equilibrium that would quite happily wipe out the human species without affecting its own survivability
This is poor web design and both my bank and Yahoo do this (annoyingly). A little bit of googling and there are some smart people out there who have devised ways to achieve the same thing (focus on the username box when the page loads) but avoiding doing so if the user has already started typing.
For a company like Yahoo, there's really no excuse.
Consortia of many gamers (or movie watchers) pool their resources and contract for games and movies to be produced. Will there be freeloaders? Of course but there would be anyway and you also dispense with the other freeloaders (marketroids and other hangers-on). As long as you get your game for $40 (or maybe $30 or $20) what does it matter?
These are fairly important differences. In the UK, I had direct debits set up for all my bills but since moving to the States, I pay all my bills manually even though I'm occasionally late and incur late fees. Basically when you set up automatic payments here, you're giving the company full access to your account and if they overcharge or empty your account, the bank is under no obligation to rectify the situation and there's no real mechanism in place to "Cancel" the access. It's a potential nightmare.
Another thing that's a bit of a culture shock moving here is the size of the late fees and how quickly they're willing to cut off your utilities.
I actually had 64k. I purchased a 32k but it didn't work and the company replaced it with a 64k. I don't think I ever used that much though (it definitely worked though).
Well, of course, Amazon is/technically/ capable of anything with the device being tethered. But I suspect the process was less likely "Delete content X from Kindle" and more like "Delete available content X from server, sync server and kindle device". It's fairly unlikely that Amazon is going to reach into your kindle and remove stuff explicitly (though not impossible I'll grant you).
And just to support you, I bought the IPOD nano because I liked the device but I find iTunes sucks immensely so I use Foobar or Amarock (and I can switch between both without having my content erased).
Itunes is awkward to use and has some odd stuff going on which isn't explained (are album covers stored in mp3s or meta data? Or apparently some combination of both?) and is brittle (managing your mp3s within itunes is awkward, managing them outside iTunes breaks iTunes). How hard is it to md5 files and have a "rediscover my music" button?
I would have been pretty happy with just a USB drive type device but went for the ipod for other features and accessory compatibility.
So now for the TCO of Windows, we have to also include the cost of a team of crack security experts who are on hand to install, evaluate and remediate security patches on a near immediate turnaround. Right you are.
I love Linux and I like my EEEPC but the Ipod changed and amarock no longer works with it and youtube did something and I can no longer view videos from it and this has been the case for many months and there have been *no updates* from Asus. And the camera has never worked with anything more than their toy application (and recently Skype apparently)
This is a poor state of affairs. I may blow away their distribution and install Ubuntu but this is not something I can recommend to others.
If you have a disability, there's a good possibility you are unable to work and are living on a subsistence income.
Not everyone will be in this position but the ones who aren't will just buy the stuff anyway

Lower risk of skin cancer too.
I can both read Slashdot and simultaneously listen for my bosses footsteps behind me.

Another video worth watching is the one where a U.S. busdriver is texting, and slams into a stopped car on the interstate.
So I guess that makes a good argument for putting walls across interstates?

He did. But then the block schedule kicked in and by the time he got reconnected, she was gone.

Why not? It does for Microsoft.
+1
Are you listening, Logitech?

The new vehicle has to be at least 4mpg more efficient for the 3500 rebate and 20mpg more efficient for the 4500 rebate.
(Not that I agree with the program in the first place)
Absolutely. The rise in councils charging for parking in towns is what caused the rise of big out-of-town stores in the UK in my opinion.
Possibly they had no choice with the rise in car ownership leading to overuse and congestion but there you go.
I actually have no desire to see the Earth's A)hole.
Clearly not astronomers.

I hear that if you call it, you may even get to lay pipe

The Debian logo always looked a bit candyish to me.
