Personally I decide based on price, specs, past experiences with that brand, reviews, other peoples opinions, and the popularity of the product, all before advertising. It's true that for some of those things advertising may be an influence(popularity especially) which in that case will effect me slightly but advertising will still have a quite low direct effect. Of course that might be because I watch very little advertising (noscript + flashblock block basically all ads unless i explicitly allow them)
the variance in HIV has more to do with the super error-prone reverse transcription process than it does with the virus actually trying to evade destruction
There is no intent in evolution. Error-prone copying is just a means to be able to evade destruction.
What point is there to checking the background of the buyer if no one is keeping track of the guns? If somebody loses (or sells) their gun they must be held to account if the guns were not locked up properly or the theft was not reported.
Looks very nice and is even quite smooth on my sucky laptop with intel GPU. I got around 24 fps average when scrolling at a not very fast speed in a 1140 x 628 window. I'm running firefox 3.6.6 on ubuntu 10.04
There is no doubt that you would get by with English but I would not recommend not learning Swedish for a couple of reasons. 1. It's rude to not learn the primary language of the country you are living in. 2. While most people in Sweden are pretty decent at speaking English, good English is not universal and lot's of people (me included) are not really comfortable speaking it (due to lack of practice and horrible, horrible accent) 3. Children start learning English when they are like ten or something (not counting TV) and old people are generally bad or very bad when it comes to speaking English. My grandmother for example knows no English whatsoever.
Well the placement of the mark could be symbolic as well as in being complicit in action or in mind (I guess?). Still... it's all bullshit and doesn't really matter
It's not like we'll get more bang for our buck, we'll just get more floating point bangs, and fewer integer ones.
You can accelerate integer operations as well on "new" GPUs. This means that for highly parallel, data independent operations you will get a ton of bang for your buck and without having to send data to the graphics memory first and then pulling the results back.
Overusing placebo makes people resistant thus making them useless! We all know what happened when we overused antibiotics! We don't want the same thing to happen to placebo drugs
Wouldn't reporting the phone stolen make the phone useless for criminals? The police could track or tap the phone couldn't they? Or are you describing a method to catch terrorists?
It's probably not hard in the least to create a swapfile on hibernate and then delete it on resume with very simple scripts. I could be wrong though. Reserving space might be harder.
You should never do shit like: "tar -czvf archive.tgz ~/porndir;rm -rf ~/porndir". If the tar command fails (out of space, no permission and so on) you will lose your entire porn collection! Use && instead of ;
First of: the mayor part of the methane from cows come from the burps. Also it wouldn't be that hard to collect methane I think. Methane is lighter than air so just put some kind of collector in the roof that then seperates the methane from the rest of the air (obviously easier said than done; I reckon it's still doable though)
It still costs money even if the government pays for it... I have to agree somewhat with the grandparent though the improvement in quality of life might be worth it (and the scientific value is of course very large). This procedure sounds very complicated but it's definitely very cool. And it's good that they aren't just throwing donor faces away I guess (waste not want not).
Probably not. That would be bad if for example you wanted to burn a DVD and the burner program put a lot of stuff in/tmp. I'm not a linux pro or anything so I don't know how different distros do it but I don't think that's the default.
Hmmm... I'm probably a bit spoiled from living in a student town where everybody have between 10-100 Mbit. That's not really the norm for the rest of the country (yet). Also, since most people I know (that is, young, nerdy people) pirate video over the internet already I over extrapolated a bit. You are probably right on that point. Still I doubt how large market share bluray will have. It will be interesting to see.
Youtube can't even stream 720p in the evenings (at least here in Sweden)... Maybe they should solve that problem first...

A friend's friend for whom I set VNC up for it didn't work to well. The connection was heavily throttled and to slow to be useful.

Obligatory xkcd comic
...
I'm sorry but it's obligatory!
Based on the porn available in the western world, and the amount of sex people have, this does however not work
You are aware that a lot of western countries have negative population growth rates right? It seems to be working very well IMHO

I'm still not sure that bluray won. It is obvious that hd-dvd lost but I doubt that bluray will catch on (in countries with decent broadband that is)
