The problem is that nobody RUNS the latest versions of Windows and Office. Windows 2000 is the defacto Windows standard for us and there are new vulnerabilities every day it seems. Office 2000 is likewise the standard. Until 2005 rolls around I don't see Windows XP or Windows 2003 being anywhere other than extremely early adopters' machines.

Yep, I'm still running woody without and have yet to patch it since release date(about the same time windows 2000 came out! concidence!) hmm strange that Checking bugtraq there seems to be a FEW THOUSANDS VUNERABLITIES BY NOW FOR IT.

your thinking is bloody moronoic, it's like saying the problem is most linux users that don't know linux are running such old linux verisons without shadow password support. Can you imagine these people that never ever upgrade thier windows patch surviving in a linux enviroment?

Like the line that's bothering me is
(paraphrasing here)LIBERTIARIANS SUPPORT MORE GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS AND LAWS AND BEAURCAURCY ON PRIVATE COPRORATIONS BECAUSE IT ADVOCATES SMALL GOVERNMENT AND LESS GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE IN PRIVATE Enterprises
    ?!?!?!

Why I admit that almost all the media is surly not Libertarian, Libertarian's are generally known as those great "party/people of principal"(which is probly why we have none in high offices(oh RON PAUL! I WON"T FORGET ABOUT YOU, but that's one and he had to hide under the republicans).

Anyway the principle part would prevent them from advocating government interference; just because it would help them get their message across, advocating these rules are against their ideologies

Oh and just so I can utterly destroy your point(no offense here, I just find a bit disbelief at the lack of understanding of the libertarian position) Let's look at some leading Libertarian thinkers on this

The Cato Institute(leading Libertarian think think) http://www.cato.org/dispatch/07-23-03d.html#3: The FCC's media ownership restrictions are relics of a bygone era, according to Cato Institute communications policy experts Adam Thierer and Clyde Wayne Crews Jr. In a recent commentary, "The Big Media Boogyman," they argue that "these rules have become historic anachronisms that ignore new market conditions and the intense competition for our eyes and ears. Indeed, far from living in a world of 'information scarcity' that some fear, we now live in a world of information overload. The number of information and entertainment options at our disposal has almost become overwhelming and most of us struggle to figure out ways to filter and manage all the information we can choose from in an average day."
Then notice the fact that Ron Paul(presidential candidate for the libertarian party in 88, now a congressman) Voted against this. Okay That's all Just had to clarify the Libertarian position here.

IT"S ALL ABOUT RATIONALE AND Reason or something like that; Wow I wish I was an objectivist, It would be so easy to answer this right now.(in fact I read a piece once telling me why Libertarians should be objectivists because of just this situation) Most of my views is that we are all individuals, l'd come from objectivism but I disagree with part of it; so let's try something else here

My own personal opinion would be of individual soviengty(spelling off). Therefore most likely they would be anarchist capitalist if not for the fact that everyone must have police and laws to prevent someone from creating something that isn't anarcho-capatlist or where force is used

Where does my view of individual sovengity come from?

    umm.................... freedom/liberty no force?

where does my view of freedom/liberty come from?

OH GOSH STOP THIS, I CAN TELL BY YOUR SIGNATURE THAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY WELL WE NEED GOD TO HAVE STANDERDS. So therefore I'm going to finally say that you proven to me that I have to believe in objectivism in the root philosophical layer it's the only way out

Well thanks my friend! hope that answers your question!

  7. Re:Problems with the new legislation on Courts Block Washington Violent Game Law · · Score: 1

Whee! since you don't seem to know it, I'll give you the classic libertarian spiel about what these standards are.

The government's job is to protect you from force or fraud. Two homosexuals in a bedroom together ,in private, that you never hear or see (and if you do hear them discussing it you have the option of just walking away) is in no way using force or fraud against you. Same with people using drugs all by their lonesome self(if they commit other crimes then punishment is due(Yeah, more parentheses: you might argue but drugs cause you to commit crimes, along with violent video games and violent movies and music and seeing purdy female faces; but generally here, possibly giving you an urge to commit a crime doesn't count.). Same with pretty much any consensual activity.

Consensual activities are not a thing for the government to regulate, no matter how dangerous it might be. If they want to put up warnings telling people that swimming in lighting storms during high tide when the rip current is extremely strong is probly not the most intelligent thing to do, that's fine by me; But forcing people to stay out of their private property and throwing them in jail if they refuse to is ludicrous. So there you go my friend, That's the role of the government to protect people from force or fraud(Now you can start arguing the finer points of these, as related to economics) but it's quite obvious that regulating private issues in private homes with consensual adults is force or fraud and isn't a proper function of the government.

Also Another thing to you general posters: I'm a bit fed up with people replying with stuff like YOU LIBERTIARIANS JUST WANT HATE HUMANS OR YOU ARE INTOLERANT MORONIC PEOPLE WITHOUT A CARE FOR LIFE. I can at least appreciate your views, even though I don't agree with them. For you socialists out there I could just as easy start being like COMMIE THIS AND COMME that, but I obviously don't ; Have some respect and do the same please.

Libertiarians generally don't belive in force or fraud(unless force is used on you first); So sure, there is still the regulations that you can't kill people or use force or fraud; But you won't be prosecuted if you sell people toxic sludge and they know it's toxic sludge, claiming it's safe lemonade is a bit differnent though.

Ignorance is fun; So is blindly labeling people anarchists without any awareness of the facts whatsoever.

even though I'm going to get flamebait here, I want to join in the enjoyment of ignorance. Understand what Libertarians are before you attack them. I'm pretty sure putting toxic sludge in someone's drink would be commiting murder? Why wouldn't that exist in libertarian.

You don't have to be someone in a tech corporation , that has thousands of dollars to send their employees to conferences, to be able to go here. It's a full conference at lowered prices

The entire point is trying to bring Perl to the masses and get as many people together as possible from all uses of perl or even possibly using perl, to sit and talk about perl, with money not being a limit, a real community conference. They also has the ability for you as a user to give up and give your own small 5-mintue talk on Perl if you have expertise/experience on any particular part of it. This is the way to do conferences in the future, get as many smart people together and have them advance whatever you want, no open source conferences should be priced as high as some of the other ones I've seen.

The fact is, you can't measure the top of the line cards accuralty unless you include the latest and greatest features. It's like when measuring image quality of two cards, saying well this card supports 8x Anti-alaising, but there are cards out there that are used commonly that hardly even can do 4x anti-aliasing, so it's unfair to measure maximum image quality attainable as 8x vs 4x.

according to this person's post right here, as the majority of people are still using geforce 2's and before we couldn't even have any tests that support pixel or vertex shaders in cards. therefore it's a quite absurd comment
