You'd rather have DRM restricted non-standard audio files with a service that works on 5% of computers (AAC+iTunes+Macs) than DRM restricted non-standard audio files with a service that works on 94% of computers (WMA+WMP9+IE5)?
Well in my case the AAC+iTunes+Macs combo works on 100% of computers and the WMA+WMP9+IE5 combo works on 0% of my computers. So, yes, I would rather have the Apple version.
When I was a child my parents had a car that did that. "The door.. is....... ajar *dong* The door.. is....... ajar *dong* The door.. is....... ajar *dong*" Very annoying. I think my dad had the garage down the street disable it after a month.
Simple. Use one of the dozen or so utilites that allow you to copy songs off of the iPod. Or choose to manually manage your music library. You won't get the nice auto sync's (ex. I have smart playlists that keep track of songs I've only listened to once, or my top 25 Most played and those are kept track of across iTunes and my iPod.)
Here I am surfing around looking for stuff to do with my PS network adapter. I come across the Linux for Playstation 2 site, but none of the other pages on that site will load. Database errors and all that. "Well somebody needs to fix their site." i thought. Well off to Google to find some other sites. What do I see at the top of the search results?

A iPod becomes "registered" when you first connect it to your computer and choose to keep it sync'd with your library. If you take that iPod and connect it to another computer it will ask you if you want to delete all the songs on the iPod and "register" it with this new computer. This is one of the ways Apple "deals" with piracy.
Actually it was Andy Wallace (Slayer, Jeff Buckly, Faith No More, System of a Down (recently)) who mixed Nirvana's Nevermind that made it the radio-friend unit shifter that it became. If you ever hear Vig's mixes of Nevermind or the demos he did before that were supposted to be Nirvana's second Sub Pop album you'll hear a noticable difference. They were, to put it mildly, a little rough. Vig might have been in a little over his head at that point in his career.
Filtering is nice, I've been using SpamAssassin with reasonable results for the last few months. It has nearly no false positives but has recently been missing more. Perhaps I should update.
Actually spamassassin has a nice built-in reporting tool
spamassassin -r < *mailmessage*
And if you setup it up to work with with Vipul's Razor for it's all automagically updated.
OK, I have to ask: what the heck are you guys doing with your email addresses that make you get 81 spam messages before noon? Publishing it on a billboard in Times Square?
It may not be exactly like putting his email address on a billboard in Times Square, but he does, you know, run slashdot. His address shows up a lot on these pages that are a good target for havesters and he does reach a large audiance, of whom a small percentange might be vindictive towards him, for whatever reason, and sign him up for all sorts of nasty stuff.
I was looking at webcams, but they are all USB, meaning they can't be hooked up through a cable longer than 5 feet. Firewire would allow 35 feet, but that would mean FINDING a firewire webcam.
One of my roommates had a el-cheapo DVD player that would display the FBI warning on some DVDs ("Scary Movie" was one that i recall) for 20 minutes. Obviously a (very annoying) bug in the DVD player.
"Many of the nominees here tonight... are in immediate danger of being marginalized out of our business."
Looking at the winners: U2, Alicia Keys, James Taylor, Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, Pink, Eric Clapton, Janet Jackson, Sade
Harry Connick, Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Linkin Park, Jeff Beck, Coldplay, Usher, Destiny's Child, Gladys Knight, Missy Elliott, Outkast, Eve, Gwen Stefani, Dolly Parton, etc. I don't see any that will either be going broke any time soon (apart from poor management, not result of file-sharing) or will be "marginalized out of our business" by the business itself. Where are New Kids on the Block, Vanilla Ice, Hammer, etc? They died long before Napster.
I went to download the Windows client a couple of days ago and the download page on Kazaa.com said something to the effect of "Downloads are temporarly unavailable". But meanwhile the little download counter on the top of the page was still chugging along past 3mil downloads or so.
I find this very unsual, since growing up, everyone I knew had an SNES, period. You were considered "way out of it" if you were stuck with one of those crappy Genesis things.
Maybe it was a regional thing? When I was growing up only a few people I knew had a SNES, but everyone had a Genesis. I think mostly because certain games, Madden Football, MK3, really sucked on the SNES. Although the kid who had the SNES was quite popular once he got Mario Kart...
Do you expect AOL to just let you have that post on rograndom.com about using LICQ to get around their efforts to restrict use of their ICQ service?
Nope. They have other ways of stopping me from using LICQ, like changing their protocol. Apple cannot do this as the CDs are already out in the wild. Although they do have a right to send a letter if they feel so inclined, I am within my rights to ignore it if I feel fit. MacFixIt could've igorned the letter they got, but they didn't.
BTW, on my site I complain that I can't use LICQ or Fire.app any more because they (last time I checked) don't work anymore, so you can't really violate the usage policies with them:)

Spell-checking in textareas. No tpyos in this post!
Oops. Either you're being ironic or your forgot to turn on the spell checking.

I never said they did, but they do have one on Dell branded PC hardware.
Apple may not have a monopoly on desktops, but they do have a monopoly on Apple products.
Really? Somebody should do something about this. I mean, it's not like Dell has a monopoly on Dell computers or anything. er, wait...
Can't sleep. Clowns will eat me.

Here's one I found a while ago that worked with goto.com, but could easily be changed.

And my 450 mhz G4 cube does about 4 MKeys, so a 3.5GHz P4 is like a 650mhz G4, or much slower than the new iMacs. ouch.
lies, damn lies, etc.

Why?
The iBook comes with OSX installed. You don't have to pirate it.
Do you expect them to just go "We fucked up! I guess everyone can have our new OS for free now! Shucks! Well, won't do that again, ha ha!"
