I wonder how much of the production woes are really due to to resources being diverted to supply that massive grid tied battery they supplied to Australia. Remember on time or free.
Most people aren't computer literate anyway, they're barely appliance literate. This is similar to thinking they can cook because they can usually push the buttons on a microwave correctly.
Do you really think that all the data will still be there when they come to audit it ? They'll be sure to have an upgrade and lost their backups before then.
Perhaps this is what the various TLAs want. Intel can claim that in almost all cases the additional security isn't warranted and so most people won't turn it on, and suffer the 'significant' performance hit. Then Microsoft will be able to include whatever the TLAs are interested in, in its telemetry when it phones home.
I have an old Dell Vostro with a Core i7 860 @ 2.80 Ghz, 8 gig of ram, and spinning rust as my everyday machine. I run OpenSuSE Leap 42.3 with the KDE Plasma 8.6 desktop which is probably the most functional and customisable desktop out there ( i.e. not a lightweight ). I find the performance perfectly acceptable except when starting up, but an upgrade to an SSD would fix that. Throw leap on your Macbook, tweak KDE to look and work like IOS and enjoy it for years.
Maybe the Islamic Women who wear Burkas ( full face covering ) are actually ahead of the times. Maybe we'll all be wearing them in the future to preserve our privacy.
Hey, why not just do away with school entirely ? After all the results show that teachers aren't doing much of a job anyway. And think of the money we'd save in salaries and pensions. It would even eliminate the student debt problem.
You can order a Librem 5 from Purism that will do this. Its main purpose is privacy and security, but is essentially a Linux computer in a phone form factor.

This survey can't tell us anything about how hard it was to find those bugs ( time between reporting and fixing ) though. That would be a very interesting statistic if it could be produced.
How can you tell if a politian is lying ? Answer: their lips are moving. Also applies to advertising, used car salesmen ( anyone wanting to sell you something really ), and almost all social media.
This technology sounds like something the NSA might like to borrow. Or perhaps the quick roll out indicates that it was existing technology that was borrowed from the NSA.
It may be a legal right to have it available, but without competition, will the average person be able to afford it ? And if BT is legally required to provide it everywhere, but a large percentage of rural customers can't afford to buy it, then the costs will just be passed on to the city customers.
There is an easy fix for the potential ( and perhaps already existing ) security breaches that the ME enables. Just start or propogate the rumor that the Chinese have already cracked the ME and are planning to influence the next round of elections.
Given how easily politians can get worked up about their job security by nonsensical rumors of Russian interference, they would be sure to force the NSA to allow Intel ( and AMD ) to disable, or verifyably make optional, such customer un-friendly nonsence.
It could be worse. They could use Azure, beacause Trump "knows" the Russians have totally penetrated all the back doors the NSA has required M$ to build into their software
All right then, If they have to pay for news stories, then they should get refunds for fake news. How about any day they have fake news from a news source, they don't have to pay for ANY news from that source for that day. They ( Faceboob and Google ) would have an incentive to determine what news is fake and label it so on their sites, and the news sources would also have an incentive to verify news before they post it so as not to be caught and penalised. 2 birds with one stone. Too bad the politicos would never think of this.
Why stop there with totally made up actors and actresses ? Why not resurrect the old favourites ( assuming their heirs are paid enough ). We could see John Wayne play Han Solo, or personallized movies where your voice and image are wrapped around the actors on any movie or show. Want to see Sheldon from Big Bang deliver the state of the union address ?
Or is the current tendency to coddle kids in cotton batting, never letting them run free outside and play un-supervised that is causing atrophied kids. Or maybe it's the trend to city living in more and more cramped un-natural environments. Or maybe it's just the trend to spending more time inside, where the air is much less healthy than even outdoor city air. Or maybe it's the trend to feeding them more over-procssed factory-supermarket junk masquerading as food because after working multiple jobs the parents don't have time ( and were never taught in school how ) to prepare nuticious meals.
Now all we have to do is figure a way to tell the browser that all the adds are off the visible section of the page and we'll never see them.

If he does then Microsoft will immediately publish benchmarks showing Linux is much slower than Windoze.

Amazon will be selling hats and scarves with psychedelic looking patterns on them.

Who could have predicted that. Better watch out for flying pigs.
It sounds like 'the government has met the enemy, and it is us'.

Most smart phone users are lucky if they get even two updates from their providers.

but only if they have really good encryption. Oh wait, they don't want anyone to have good encryption.

Spyware running 24/7. What's not to like about that ?
